Rain Accumulation

Hi there,
We've been watching the television reports about all the rain coming down in Florida and we were wondering if TV had problems with any acccessive rain fall. Those retention ponds must be filling up!

Re: Rain Accumulation

We live in the village of Springdale (north side) and have been monitoring the rainfall since Fay started with an electronic rainfall monitor and have only received .66 inches so far. We have been lucky and have been just outside the outer bands of Fay's rain bands. The way they are talking today if Fay ever starts moving again that we may be in the 6-8 inch range. We shall see.

Re: Rain Accumulation

Does anyone know whether all this rain isn't somehow helping the aquifers that are on everyones minds in Florida? How does that work? I bet Tal knows.

Thanks for the update...we're in Summerhill...and can't wait to get back down there.

Re: Rain Accumulation

I measure the rain using the pool tiles as a gauge. I don't see much difference in the water level. Lake Sumter looks like it could use a good 6-8" of rain.

It takes time to soak in. http://www.palmbayflorida.org/utilit...u_aquifer.html

"Scientists say the water in the Floridan aquifer is 50 to 26,000 years old. The age of the water varies because of the time it takes water to seep through different types of soil. Sandy soils are most suited to allowing water to seep into the ground, while soils such as clay are more difficult to penetrate. Water’s downward movement is measured in inches per year and horizontally in feet per year." From link.

Polo Ridge reporting. Just dumped my gage. It had 5 inches since the start of Fay. It's only a free gage given out by Sumter County but has be accurate in the past. The time dumped was 8 P.M. on 8/21

Smalldog Sez radio just gave some numbers here in the Villages as 5 to 7 inches of rain ::) ............ said disagreement with your rain gauge is caused by windy conditions ......... how come theirs isn't :dontknow:

Re: Rain Accumulation

Since the start of the storm, my now thrice-emptied rain gauge has collected a total of about 8 inches of rain. Just south of LSL.

Emptied my gauge in Amelia this morning at 6 inches and overflowing. Measured since the start of Fay.

Re: Rain Accumulation

The 5 inch rain gauge at the Lynnhaven postal center was overflowing around 12 noon today. (August 22)

The retention ponds near Pimilico Recreation Center looked to be extremely full.

Lots of debris on roads-- mostly just Spanish moss from the trees.

Re: Rain Accumulation

Took a short walk during one of the recent lulls in the rain. The bridge to the 8th green at Bogart is completely under water. The other ponds at Bogart/Bacall have very high water levels, but, nothing near endangering any of the nearby homes. Here comes the next batch of rain....

Hi 07 - congratulations on your next star and also for giving us an update on the weather. Up here in NJ the weather is gorgeous and all we are doing is worrying about our house in TV. Sure hope it hasn't slipped down the hill in Amelia. We appreciate anything we hear about what's happening in TV. Thanks again.

Polo Ridge total rain 10 inches. All the ponds are full. The pond next to Wal Mart has water backed up to the street. I noticed that water was going onto the green at hole number 6, Torri Pine last night. Should be under water today.
