Hi All, Good Day from beautiful downtown Barstow, San Bernardino, CA. We left Los Angeles in the middle of Friday night traffic, duh!, so we made it here in 3 hours instead of 2 but being we were so exhausted, we decided to stop for overnight..

The doggies are so well behaved, I think they belong to someone else. Not my dirty, rotten, spoiled Schnauzers. Not a tear in my eyes about leaving L.A., probably because of the ultimate prize, HEAVENLY HADLEY!!!

OK, we'll keep in touch, maybe tonight from Albuquerque if all goes well. Later,

So glad the kids aren't acting up. I know you will drive safely and decide you won't want to make a trip like that again soon. It is wonderful what we do for our small dependents.

My son and family made the drive from California to Florida a few years back. Driving a U-Haul made the trip slower than usual but that was okay with me since my daughter in law was driving the lead car alone with a toddler.

It's a long road to travel but it's worth every mile. Be safe and take care.

When we drive from Canada to TV, it takes 26 hours. Luckily, any time the car starts moving, the dogs instantly fall asleep. Now the cat? A different story! Thank Goddess for drugs.

Have a safe trip, KathieI. I did this trip but from the San Francisco area to Palm Harbor, Florida in 1996. My parents took our dog of that time-- a cocker spaniel-- along with them in a different vehicle and a few days different from my trip.

I stopped at the some spots along the way like scenic vistas along Highway 1 in CA, the Grand Canyon, Meteor Crater http://www.meteorcrater.com/index.php, a few places with historical markers in Texas, beaches in Mississippi, the USS Alabama http://www.ussalabama.com/visitor_info.php, beaches on FL's panhandle, etc.

Took me a week or so.

Congratulations on the beginning of your new life! Have a safe trip and just think about what awaits you in Hadley. Missed you in chat last few nights and thankful you are posting to let us know how you are. Tell the dogs to keep behaving.

Back on line --- Been a wonderful trip. Managed to work around my friend, Fay, except today got caught in a horrible rain storm in Memphis so checked into the nearest Super 8 motels to settle in for the night. Dogs still being absolutely fantastic, think they belong to someone else :dontknow: Don't bark, no puking, no crying, being good in the motel rooms, gee, who are these dogs???

Covered 4 states today, OK, ARK, Tenn., Miss. Did well, drove around 400+ miles. Will continue down 55 to the 20 to the 10 and hope to be in TV on Wed. evening. Love to make it Tuesday, but, HB, I'm already doing 90-95 so I don't want to end up in jail..... :cop: :cop: :cop:

BTW Everyone, please note, Super 8's and Best Western's are the best motels in the world. They couldn't be more accommodating and they only charge $20 extra for the 3 dogs. Its been very much appreciated. See you all on Wed.....ok, maybe Thursday before I get to the squares...

Safe travels! Thanks for the tip about the motels. We'll be trekking cross country with our Tommy Boy and Baby Monroe soon. They should stop screaming about the time we reach Nebraska.

Oh GG, you're so baaad, but in a good way! TB & BM can't be sent home with their parents, so they're not like grandchildren. They're more like very, very spoiled children. And you'd never give those names with those initials to REAL children, would you? ;)

Kat, you're almost in TV, lucky you! I'm always looking for pet friendly places to stay. One hotel in Ocala told us it would be $80 extra per pet, and we have 3!! That is a good tip about Super 8s and Best Western motels.

So glad the trip is going well.
I know you are excited to arrive but take it slow and please arrive safely.

FYI to all those traveling with pets...Comfort Inn is also pet friendly... only $15.00 extra per night. Stayed with them on my way to New England and will do it again on my return to TV in a couple of weeks.

This is really good information as I always travel with 3 pets. I wonder if it applies to every Comfort Inn, Best Western and Super 8s.

I always though the Red Roof Inn was the only consistently pet-friendly motel chain.

As I recollect there was no stated extra charge for The Cat when we came down here more than 3 years ago! It's possible that the room for me was more than had I been traveling alone, but I didn't see any evidence of that!

Thanks SWR. I can see that it is important to check into pet policies for motels before starting on a trip. Extra charges can really mount up, especially if they charge for each pet. Next trip, I'll be more organized. (I think I've said that before). ;D

FYI, I used AAA web site to plan out my travel route, it was extremely accurate and easy to maneuver. It also gives you the pet friendly hotels/motels in each city. An excellent resource. We didn't get lost once and never had a problem with getting a room even late in the evening. Try it, you'll like it.

Yes, SWR, I'm in a Red Roof Inn as we speak, the accommodations are wonderful, clean and very updated, but what I notice is hotel chains aren't necessarily the same or have the same policies in each city. Its good to check as you progress in your travels.
