Best Restaurant in Spanish Springs?

We are going to The Sharon this evening and are looking for recommendations for dinner. What's your favorite place?

Bonny 09-06-2015 11:01 AM

Ruby Tuesdays.

Kahuna32162 09-06-2015 11:05 AM

World of Beers has creeped to the top of our list since opening in Spanish Springs.

Bosoxfan 09-06-2015 11:18 AM

Sakura in the Publix plaza

ajbrown 09-06-2015 11:19 AM

You have a craving for fried chicken? McCall's

TooJay's is pretty consistent comfort food. Besides that I do not know.

One note on McCall's, check the football schedule. We went over yesterday as my wife had a craving for fried chicken. I said lets go at 4 to beat the crowd

I opened the door expecting a fairly dead restaurant and to have my choice of seats at the bar and watch golf while eating. There was not a seat in the house!!! Penn State was playing and these folks are into Penn State. Looked like they were having a blast. We did not wish to sit outside, so we had a drink, my wife got fried chicken to go, service was great even with the crowd.

I learned they also get a huge Buffalo Bills crowd, so check the schedule before going to McCall's :)

It really all depends on what you want to eat. All of the restaurants specialize in different types of food and do one or two things better than all of the others.

Quality wise, I think that they're all about the same.

The first four responses have recommended what I believe are about the worst of a lot of bad choices in SS. I'd try Athens, not fancy but affordable and basically good!

Well thanks! I'll take that as a compliment for sharing my astute comments and recommendations with TOTVer's.

I had no doubt you would.

Simply saying Athens probably would have worked just fine.

ajbrown 09-06-2015 01:09 PM

To the OP. If the folks want fried chicken, I stick to my McCall's recommendation. For the folks not having fried chicken it is a decent pub menu (IMO), but the fried chicken is what they are known for.

They also have good shepherd's pie.

Funny how we differ

The first 4 suggestions I thought were very solid. We love Sakura, cant go wrong with Too Jays and McCalls indeed has awesome Chicken. Also agree with Flippers for Pizza! To each his own!

Chatbrat 09-06-2015 01:35 PM

Aside from Athens, pretty accurate!

For an excellent pizza, go to Luigino's. Sit at the outdoor bar, have a great pizza and a $2 draft beer. Life is good.

The restaurant food and service inside Luigino's is definitely below par and is not worth your time or money.

DCLynn 09-07-2015 03:23 PM

I love the burgers at Gators.

Bosoxfan 09-07-2015 06:31 PM

Sakura has some of the best sashimi I've ever had.My wife doesn't eat sushi but she enjoys every meal she's had there.

Affordable and basically good.Wow if this is what you're looking for in a restaurant thenyour opinion of good sure isn't mine.

Riccckkk 09-07-2015 07:54 PM

Athens is the best all around food in SS and very reasonable for the quality.

DigitalGranny 09-08-2015 07:00 PM

My 2 cents
Pizza Luiginos and agree about eating outside
Athens for Greek chicken, salad, breakfast, or moussaka
At tooJays, I order trio salad with one scoop being chopped liver and a bagel to eat it on
Ruby Tuesdays is just like others in the chain and a decent choice for steaks and good drinks as well

simpkinp 09-08-2015 07:39 PM

Best restaurant in Spanish Springs?

From what I have have read and tasted there, this is an oxymoron. Maybe least mediocre would be more accurate. Mc Calls has a few good things, their Beef on a Weck, Nachos and Fried Chicken come to mind, but hardly gourmet.

Dr Winston O Boogie jr 09-09-2015 05:28 AM

I usually have lunch in Gator's Dockside every Sunday during the football season and they are very good.

I brought my brother and some friends there when they were visiting and everyone liked it.

The burgers are the best around.

simpkinp 09-09-2015 07:59 PM

Gator's Dockside is a great sports bar. I sometimes go with one of my football clubs. I am also at McCall's with a football club. I miss the fried jalapeņos there. It's hard to find spicy food, and that was a treat. Sports bar food is fun. I did not mean to come as so negative.

I certainly would NOT, I repeat NOT go to Luiginos as we have been there many many times and food is subpar, clientele is sketchy and waited over 2 hours, with reservations on a show night at The Sharon and the food was awful. Our entire party of 12+ was extremely unhappy with the service and the food. Seems that the staff just does not care about their own place nor their guests.

"been there many many times"...I gotta ask...why?

Chatbrat 09-22-2015 04:41 PM

Sakura is not in Spanish Springs-honestly, in a warm weather environment-you have to be very, very carefaeful about eating raw seafood--there are more parasites in warm water environs than you care to know.

I love sushi-but I will not eat it in Florida--I had a neighbor who died from eating contaminated oysters in Clearwater Beach

What does clientele is sketchy mean ?

I haven't been to Ruby Tuesdays in a while. The last time I went I got the queen cut steak and subbed the veg for the salad bar and got a baked potato. That was quite a meal for very little money. The steak was great.

And I got some kind of garlic bread or something that wasn't advertised as a pizza at Flippers and thought that was the best "pizza" around.

Chatbrat 09-23-2015 05:34 AM

Sketchy -means on the verge of being institutionalized-we stopped at Luigino's bar for a cocktail before seeing a show at the Sharon--the "Bar Flies" who live there love the cheap prices and love to get in your face about their personal attitudes--I mean leaving their seats & standing next to you

On the verge of being scary

klseejag 09-23-2015 10:43 AM

Given them many many chances and they just cannot seem to get it right...Just as others are saying, the people in which they are attracting is a bit... they are getting known for activity in which we do not want to be associated with. To each their own.

I must be missing something. What kind of activity is going on? I've been there and seen a lot of friends there. No sketchy people or weird activity.
