Freddie Gray
BALTIMORE (AP) — The family of Freddie Gray, who died after being critically injured in police custody, reached a tentative $6.4 million wrongful death settlement with the city of Baltimore, resolving civil claims about a week after the first hearing in the criminal case against six police officers, officials said Tuesday.
I realize with 330 million people in this country this only costs us 2 cents each, but personally, I WANT A REFUND. Yep, let's just reward the criminals and punish the police---It's "cops and robbers" in some twisted alternative universe. When does Rod Serling make his final comments and the show is over? |

Inmates on death row for years! Payolla for an "ALLEGED" wrongful death?!?!?! Even before the accused have been tried?!?!?!?! One either has to have a lot of money or be of the race or religion or gender of the agenda for the week!!!!! |

While it is true Freddie Gray was a small time drug dealer, the police arrested him with no probable cause that night. He was handcuffed and put in the steel paddy wagon and given a long, roundabout "rough ride" to the station to teach him a lesson. He was not belted in the wagon as orders dictated and was thrown all around the steel confines of the wagon. He died as a result of that "rough ride".
If you go back to the postings when this occured, you will see my predictions that the family would receive a mulit-million dollar payout. This happens in Baltimore. One man was given the same type of "rough ride", was left a quadriplegic and received a $39 million settlement. Should all the 6 officers go to prison? No, just the driver on the charge of "depraved heart murder". Maybe the sergeant, too. Police are not above the law and days of roughing up suspects just to teach them a lesson not to mess with police should have been over many years ago. |

I want a refund for the nearly $1T dollar bogus stimulus package signed into law by Obama.

Your post is so filled with assumptions and no facts, but one, in my mind needs to be addressed. You people who come on here with your "preaching" is really annoying. NOBODY, AT ANY TIME, EVER EVEN hinted that your last sentence was condoned, so please, stop preaching. |

Thank you for your service. My son's best friend just passed, the details are classified but it was not natural, he was a commander in the Seals in counterintelligence probably in some desert hellhole defending America. This is not over because of Obama's stupid withdrawal, it is just worse. This victim was kind enough, as a favor to my son (also can't say what he does but he is civilian), to fly an American flag over a forward secret base in northern Iraq on 9/11/11 so I could received it, with a certificate from the command of operation Iraqi Freedom, as a Christmas present. This is the character of our men and women in uniform. What a total waste, he leaves behind a young wife and 3 young kids. So to all those that so vehemently despise Bush and "his war", DO NOT conflate the politics of a war with the honor, integrity, valor and sacrifice of those that serve |

So was Iraq "bogus" because there were no WMDs found, even though all the best intelligence suggested Hussein had them? Even today, I can hear the recorded cell phone call from one Iraqi general to another----"The UN team is headed your way, better move the "stuff"". What stuff would they want to hide from the UN---a box of twinkies?????. It's a large desert, it took 8 months to find Hussein in a hole, and he needed food, air and water. How hard to hide barrels of chemical weapons or nerve gas? We are still digging "stuff" up in the desert from 5,000 years ago. Truth is, that we will probably never know, but ultimately, "war is hell", and has tendencies to bend the usual sense of ethics and morality. Not saying that's right, just saying that's how it is. |

As to Freddie Gray..is anyone surprised that the city of Baltimore paid such a huge amount so quickly. A city government where the mayor sanctioned destruction of property . Where a prosecuting attorney joins in with rioters to express no justice no peace.
In my view the city should have attempted two things before settling. One demand and pushed aggressively for a change in venue for both the criminal and civil matters. Secondly not settled that civil claim until the results of the criminal charges were concluded. BUT WE KNOW WHY THEY DIDN'T This is a city run by angry progressives and with black populist notions meaning that they going to get the man. and I'll make book that Al Sharpton had taken the lead here. I don't know about the rest of America but I am sick and tired of the lawlessness going on and federal and state representatives that sit back and do nothing because they are afraid to offend and lose votes. And worse yet, The state of Maryland has a $400,000 liability cap on non-economic damages, so this looks like 6 million for nothing. I think this was a blatant attempt to further pollute the jury pool |

Someone asked if Vietnam was a bogus war. Yes, it was.
It was a civil war that the USA should not ever have been involved with. The Gulf of Tonkin was a bogus way of getting involved. 58,000 soldiers died for nothing. Vietnam is now a tourist destination and a trading partner with the USA. |
Quote:
As far as a trading partner and a tourist destination goes, so is Germany, Italy and Japan----perhaps that makes WWII "bogus" also |

No assumptions either. Wait until the trials of these six officers. You will see my prediction of the driver and the sergeant being found guilty if depraved heart murder will be accurate. Police are not above the law. |

BTW, we did not "lose" in Vietnam. In fact we won every single battle---100% of them. We lost the will to fight at home, not on the battlefield |

Back to the topic. Freddie Gray died because of an illegal arrest which led to the illegal rough ride in the paddy wagon just to tune him up a little bit. The police are guilty and the trials will prove that to be a fact. Police must follow laws, too.

His death was an accident ... not "murder" as anyone with a brain can see. Baltimore is corrupt, lawless and a sewer. The major is a JOKE ... the personification of an educated idiot. The state's attorney is worse ... she should have her law license pulled. Basically, the police in Baltimore should go on strike in those neighborhoods that have high crime rates and, likewise, hate the police. I mean ... let the citizens duke it out sans police protection. When the citizens finally protest to have police coverage restored, and maybe burn a few buildings down to proven their sincerity, then reinstate it. |
[QUOTE=Guest;1112082]Freddie Gray was a total scumbag ... and created havoc over a long criminal career.
His death was an accident ... not "murder" as anyone with a brain can see./QUOTE] The man had his hands handcuffed in back of him. He was put into the all steel paddy wagon with no seat belt. The driver took sharp corners, swift stops, and all the aspects of a rough ride. Gray was bounced around the back of the paddy wagon. The fatal spinal cord injury happened as a result. Department rules stated this would not be done. Prisoners were to be strapped in place on the seats. How was this an accident? Also, Gray was arrested illegally without any probable cause. The knife he was carrying was deemed to be legal. Comments, please. Check out all my statements and tell me where the facts differ from what I stated. |

Why pay $6.4 million to avoid litigation that is capped under Maryland law at $400,000 unless there is some political motivation or unless Baltimore is just rolling in cash and needs to give it away? The phrase "to the best of my knowledge", refers to the fact that nobody can know everything independently and has to rely on other sources And your response of " which isn't saying much, of the person who made the post. " makes me ROTFL. I have a certified IQ of 178, so like the ad says, "What's in your brainpan?" In your case I would say "Ignorance is bliss", but this is a complete misquote. What Thomas Gray wrote was "WHERE ignorance is bliss, 'tis folly to be wise", and wisdom has nothing to do with the utter nonsense you have been posting. So instead, I'll leave you with a quote from the spokesperson of the Organians in Star Trek, TOS episode 26, "Errand of Mercy"----"The mere presence of beings like you is intensely painful to us", so for me, ending this post is like taking a potent narcotic analgesic. Good night and good riddance . |
