What states did we come from
Below is information from our local paper which stated that at least X number of Villagers come from the noted state. I started tracking this column several weeks ago and during that time they never showed a number for Florida.
I thought it was interesting and perhaps others would also. Alabama -------- 283 Alaska------------- 73 Arizona --- 149 Arkansas --------123 California --------960 Colorado --------449 Connecticut ----2,196 Delaware --------466 Florida ???? Georgia ---------1,354 Hawaii -------------68 Idaho --------------30 Illinois -----------3,823 Indiana ----------2,149 Iowa ----------- 651 Kansas ------------ 274 Kentucky ---------679 Louisiana ---------157 Maine -------------770 Maryland --------2,336 Massachusetts -3,031 Michigan ----------4,798 Minnesota --------1,338 Mississippi -------107 Missouri ------------889 Montana ---------47 Nebraska ----------95 Nevada ------------128 New Hampshire –1,206 New Jersey ---3,877 New Mexico ------ 78 New York ---------9,509 North Carolina--1,075 North Dakota ------85 Ohio ------------ 5,005 Oklahoma ----- 103 Oregon --------- 116 Pennsylvania ---5,601 Rhode Island ---- 771 South Carolina --- 405 South Dakota ----- 61 Tennessee -------740 Texas ---------74 Utah --------47 Vermont --------339 Virginia -------2,338 Washington ------372 Washington, DC -67 West Virginia --- 417 Wisconsin ----3,039 Wyoming ------- 28 |
I would think Florida would be pretty high based on looking at the sales map at The Villages sales office and seeing the large majority of sales being from Florida.

Interesting! I wonder why since I'm sure there's got to be at least one or two TV residents that moved in from other areas of Florida.
I'm also surprised that OH and PA beat MI :icon_wink: |
Our neighbors although not originally from Florida, moved here from the Tampa area.
|
As they say Ohio is a great state to be FROM.:duck:
That is very interesting indeed. Thanks for posting!!! |
Once a year, The Daily Sun does a front page special investigation on the number of residents from each state. Florida is always #1 by far. Just wait for the paper to let you know.

I wonder how many come from Canada (and yes, I do know it isn't a state... yet!)
|
Born and raised Florida Cracker. Most of my life in the same town.
|
Moved from Palm Harbor, Florida but parents consider themselves from their high school town of Itasca, Illinois. I see myself as from my high school town of Reno, Nevada even though I have been in Florida now 19 years. That's about 6 years more than I was in Reno, Nevada.
Lots of New Yorkers on that list. |

The membership in the Canadian "Loonies & Toonies Club" is over 600. :pepper2: |
Surprised PA beat OH with MI being close behind OH.
Originally from NY but I count in the CT column. CT is a good state to be from. :D Rated worst state to be retired in, re taxes. |

Of course most of those were from elsewhere but they moved here from somewhere in Florida. In my case I moved to Florida in 1953 from Pa. but show that I moved here from Florida. |
Top ten: NEW YORK, PENN, OHIO, MICH, NEW JERSEY, ILLINOIS, WISC, MASS, VIRGINIA, MARYLAND----Outside of Flordia of course which is number one by far.

I wonder not just how many are from Canada, but how many from other foreign nations as well. Do you know that we have a Philippines club here? |
I don't see Mexico on the list. Isn't that a State now?

I would not take the Daily Sun count on states for accuracy. It shows only 74 people coming from Texas and I know for a fact that 74 is inaccurate. The newspaper gets their figures from those who have land lines in TV. Most of the ones from TX have cell phones only. It has been requested that the newspaper correct their figures but they refuse to do it.

Surprised that NC has over 1000
I thought everyone in NC thought they were in heaven already! Great state for mostly mild temps. We were there for 27 years.
|
If you moved from NJ-you can live here on the taxes you used to pay
|
Most retiree's from MN/ND got to Arizona or Texas...peak leaves here next week! Looks like a Thunderbird drive to Itasca State Park..headwaters of the mighty Mississippi!

That sounds like the right number of households. |

I'm not real surprise because Mich. isn't a lot less but you would think Mich. would be closer to the 5,000 range only because I wonder where all of the Detroit people went since they're under bankruptcy. Besides now Ohio St. doesn't have to bad mouth to many Mich. football fans, just kidding, LOL!

We came from California and at least 960 of us since over a year ago... :-)

What about the US territoties? We come from Puerto RIco and friends are from the USVI.
|
I called the office and they told me that Florida had 6334. How many are from outside the USA...?
|
I saw somewhere that the average Villager moves 1-2x within TV--so would they count as Florida residents on that move? Could skew the count.
