Under 50 Club?

I am really not trying to be a PITA. No one should take any offense to this at all...if you do I apologize ahead of time.

Most of my friends are over 50....but it takes a different (special in my opinion) kind of person to want to live in a Retirement Community when they are not necessarily of retirement age....even if they are retired early....

I am just wondering if there is such a thing...If anyone else is interested in joining one...etc....

It would just be nice to know that I am not the only one who wants to live here in my pre-retirement years!! It would also be nice to talk about work/TV's balance.
I would like to discuss how to join clubs, classes or groups without bothering anyone.

You know I really should be working right now..........

Where did you get the idea this is a "retirement" cmmunity? Almost everyone I know or meet is more active and enjoying life more than they ever did in the their previous careers or life spaces. New TV residents are certainly arriving at an earlier age, but that does not mean the current set are old. We'll take you young puppies (kitties) on in pickleball, etc. anytime. Now, where did I hide that special fountain water I found last week?

I am 56;hubs is 57. We are not Villagers yet but hope to be very soon. We actually started looking there in our 40's. My sister in law has been there for about 10 years now. When we started visiting there, we both thought it was a paradise but felt the same way you do. We were too young. Saw a lot of white haired people..etc. My daughter still thinks we are too yong to live with retirees... Ha! They will wear me out I am certain!
I so look forward to the day I don't have to get up with the alarm clock to go to work! You are already living the good life. God bless you my dear.
I do understand what you are saying but as I always say.."age is just a number, not a state of mind!".
I am sure there are people there in the same boat. Don't rule the oldsters out though...LOL, I have a friend in her 70's that puts me to shame!
Enjoy your Villages lifestyle...I am jealous!

I ONLY call it that because that is what I believe it is actually called...I could be wrong!! Trust me I know that everyone here is very active....I have a hard time keeping up....have to higher a personal trainer to get me in shape!!! Again...this was not meant to be an insult...just that it really is different here when you are still working, a little younger (then most) and loving it here!!! If you read some of my other postings you would know that I love TV's and I am younger than most!!

Pook! Thanks! Makes a difference....trust me I would not dare call anyone older than say 88....old!!! I am still working but thankfully can work from home on the computer...which of course is hard to do here!!! Work that is!!

However....I really wanted to understand what others are thinking....this place is wonderful in everyway...I drive around thinking I would not live anywhere else on earth!! I want to meet other people that feel the same way....under 50!!

Again....to the rest of you reading this....I LOVE YOU all and think nothing of the age...perhaps I should have put this under "Support Groups" instead of clubs!! Some of us have a hard time keeping up!!!! ;D

PS...Jim my thought is also that if you are not working...or just working a little for benefits or a little extra cash....then you are retired....thus a Retirement community ;D

I totally relate to wanting to meet some people who have chosen to live in TV, but have circumstances similar to yours. We all seek out people who understand the stage of life we are in...such as having younger children, working, your generation's distinctive characteristics like music, experiences, etc.

Isn't this one of the reasons so many of us desire The Villages? To be with others who "get" our stage in life...Teenagers locked in a more mature version of our former physical selves?

Good luck Cassie hope you find some friends your age. You know where I might want to look if I were you is at the parents of the children your daughters age...especially if she goes to The Villages School.

I agree with Susan, and wondered what brought you here Cassie and then I remember reading that your work is finding housing for seniors. Is that correct?

I too have generally found that I get along fine with people of all ages, but It is lovely to be surrounded with people of my general age and life experience.

Gracie and Susan....trust me...I LOVE to be in the mix of many age ranges...one lady, who I counted as one of my dearest friends, was 103 when she passed. Age is not the issue.

I do have a daughter and while she can not go to TV Charter School...(as I do not work for TV's yet)....I don't always like people MY age....or atleast some of them.....

Truly I am looking for people between 34-50 who have decided to live in this wonderful place...for whatever reason....

I chose to live here for the same reasons you all did...the nightly entertainment, the beauty, the golf, the love of people...no matter the age....

I was just interested if there were any other younger people here that LOVE being here....that is all....my guess is that I am one of about 6-10 and I am fine with that....

Please don't take it wrong!! :'(

Re: Under 50 Club?

Hi Cassie: How did you get into The Villages with a daughter young enough to go to the charter school? I have a friend who was interested in moving to TV who has a son 16, and she was told the minimum age for child residents is 19. Is that faulty info? By the way, where did you end up sending your daughter to school?

We own inside TV's but we also rent a condo outside TV's as well. She attends Carver Middle School in Leesburg...we are in Lake County and that is where they go....

Your friend would have to live just outside TV's if she has a 16 year old son....the age is indeed 19.....

There are many new areas in TV's and just outside that are nice...she will just want to check out the schools first...I would be more than happy to talk to you or her about what we found....send me a PM...if you want.

Ok...so I thought I would verify my position in looking or establishing an under 50 club. I went to a pool party at the complex we rent in....(outside the villages) with my daughter today. While the place is beautiful and the pool is great.....I realized that I LOVE TV's when they started playing LOUD RAP TYPE MUSIC. When one listens to TV's station every day or ABBA, Carpenters, John Denver type music....well this kind of "music" does not sit well with me.

Neither did the people...granted all my age....but not my 'type" of people....

I have decided to forget the under 50 crowd....I don't really like them I need to sleep there and work there....but I will PLAY in TV's and live here full time eventually....

I have decided instead that I am really 50+ in a 34 year old body. Please don't shut me out because of my age....I need to be in TV's!!! I am even letting my hair start to gray just a little!!!! I love you all!!!!!!!

Joan53 10-22-2008 11:58 AM

HI. I am a few years older than 50 and also moved to the Villages a year ago. I was looking for a beautiful home to work out of (still work full time) and a safe and friendly atmosphere. If you find others, I would be interested with joining a group.

rshoffer 10-22-2008 12:28 PM

Would ya let me in if I feel under 5O? I bet a club like this would generate lot of interest... BUT... imagine how sad members would be on their 50th birthday... getting booted outta the club.

GMONEY 10-22-2008 12:54 PM

You also have Bison Valley, owned by The Villages for family's across from the Charter High School.

swrinfla 10-22-2008 02:12 PM

As one of the "Old Fogies" around here, I wonder whether an Under 50 Club would come equipped with chaperones?????

I can't believe this thread was brought back to life! LOL!

I have decided that I just should not regularly associate with anyone under the age of 34....and even then....it is a little scary. Perhaps I am odd...well I know that I am....but I think we should just love everyone....well over 34....strange number I know...but I want to be included.

There are many wonderful people here of all ages...I think we should just all be in "the club" if we are decent, caring, loving, responsible human beings....

Therefore I do not want an under 50 club....so anyone can join the non-club!

Hhhmmmm....did that make sense? I know it was mushy....but did it make sense?

Cassie, I have a question. You state you have 2 residences. One is in TV and the other a condo outside TV. I can understand 2 residences because I have two.

My question is:
Why 2 residences so close together...within a few miles of each other? Is it so you can legally claim the one outside TV as your permanent residence in order to send your underaged child to school yet take advantage of TV's amenities?

Bright....actually you are right...sort of...

We LOVE TV's....and my life partner is "of age" so legally we are fine to live in TV's....BUT we do have a child...11 years old....SO....we LIVE outside of TV's and VISIT the home inside when it is ok to do. My partner is in TV's everyday but we all sleep at the condo....I come in for work or play during the day....but the "poor" child rarely sees TV's....unless we take a quick golf cart ride into the square etc....before leaving the bubble as we call it.

Most of our day to day lives are just outside....as it should be....but we (Sue and I) enjoy TV's daily....

Hard concept I know....but we do obey the covenants we signed....and hire babysitters etc...when we want to enjoy the night life or "freedom".

Hope this clarifies....occasionally we bring our daughter into town but rarely as there is homework and kids stuff to be done.....

She loves it here and respects "her elders" as she puts it....she actually has said in the past that children over 8yrs old should have to take a test in order to be here.....a kindness test....

I am not sure where she came from...she was meant to live in this area...loves TV's and thinks it a real treat to come into visit.

Again...hope this clarifies....

PS...we use the pools occasionally here with her...but we have a FAB pool and kid stuff where we are...."on the outside".

Mostly I use them and Sue uses the golf courses.....

Bogie...I am sorry if you don't understand my post....I think if you read the other post's in this thread you may....when I first moved to the area...I was hoping to find some other people "under 50" that have chosen to live here. As I think you may know this is typically a retirement community...but there are several people here that have either retired early or work here while enjoying TV's life.

Once I got to know some of the "younger" people in the area....not necessarily TV's....I realized that it just doens't matter what age one is....as long as they are good people....

SO....I decided not to pursue a younger (under 50) crowd and be-friend those around me, at any age, that are good human beings...and worth pursuing friendships with.

Does this help?? Sorry...I know I "talk" a lot!!

Cassie,
You explain this very well and I think you made a wise investment for your future (much better than the stock market at this point). You and Sue were smart to purchase your second property within TV so that the resident amenities are yours to enjoy now and in the future.

Hyacinth Bucket 10-22-2008 07:46 PM

Cassie I am confused. You wrote in another thread and I quote

"I would think you could go get the baby an "in-area" guest pass...this allows them to use the amenities with the resident 365 days a year....not that the baby is going to use any of the amenities...but she would be "covered"!!!

It sounded to me like this is how your daughter is able to visit TV so frequently. I think you also said that your neighbors understand your situation ....

You are the first person who has mentioned an "in-area" guest pass. How does one get this? I am sure others would like to be able to get this type of pass.

Please let us all know, so that if we need one we can get one also.

HB

renielarson 10-22-2008 08:16 PM

Cassie,

My son, daughter-in-law, and toddler grandson live in Leesburg. Does this mean I can get them an "in area" guest pass for 365 days a year?

Does this mean my son and family could enjoy the same amenities I do free of charge just because they are my family?

You have totally confused me with your post.

I was told differently when I went to apply for a guest pass for them.

When I went to get a pass for them I was asked where they lived because I was told there was a distance limit...if they lived too close then they weren't allowed to get a guest pass. I was told that The Villages does not want family who lives close to be able to enjoy the same amenities I do.

So, I'd like to know what this "in area" pass is that you talk about. I want to know where I go to get one.

I want to know if it's okay to use your name as a reference if I try to apply again.

Or...have I misunderstood what you wrote? If so, please advise.

OH...HB...I am not the first one to mention the in-area guest pass....actually there have been many, many debates in regards to this both on TOTV and in TV's....I do not deny the fact that she has one....it just makes it easier if we want to "hang out" at one of the CC pools with her on a weekend once in a while...my daughter would be able to visit in TV's according to the rules BUT....we do not need to do that as we have provided other amentities for her.

Anyone that OWNS in TV's and has a child or grandchild in-area (tri-county within 50 mile radius) can access this pass...atleast they can right now....

While we are allowed to do this....we CHOOSE to live our normal lives...and utilize TV's guest pass allowances on "special" occassions...

Thanks for your interest....hopefully if you have children or grandchildren in the area you can access this special pass and bring them in once in a while....you could do it everyday according to the "rules"....but who has time for that??

I do KNOW that there are several threads that speak about this....many different opinions about it....worth looking them up....

As far as the baby is concerned....I actually stated that it would be easier on the neighbors and EVERYONE if Grandma went to their house....but that an "in-area" guest pass would "legally" cover her!!

I don't know what you would call frequent visits (maybe 1 or 2 times per month)....but people here that know me...really know me....know that we don't LIVE in TV's.....BUT we do OWN in TV's and pay ALL the same fees that you and everyone else do....and think it is worth EVERY penny!!!

Thanks again...this will be VERY helpful to all people with family in the area!!!

Bright....as I just wrote to HB....and I KNOW there are other threads here....someone please show our friends the threads....but YES you (right now according to the rules) get your son, daughter, grandchildren in-area GUEST passes.....

They HAVE to be with you and you alone when they use the golf courses or pools or any other amenities....

I am sure sweetie that if you call TV's and request in-area guest passes for those particular people you should be able to....

in fact....if you are having a problem with it I am sure I can dig in TOTV to find where one of our other friends has posted the "rules".

I do know that these rules and/or link was posted here on TOTV...

Thanks again for your interest.....hope this helps you....but the best advice I can give your family is to find a nice family place that has amenities for the kids....and to come visit with their "in-area" passes when YOU want them to.....even if it is right next door near Walmart....

Cassie I did a quick search and was unable to find the information. I guess I will go to the offices and print what you have posted. It will make my life simpler and save me time.

FYI - I believe when you use the term "sweetie" I think that may be considered Sexual Harrassment. It has been a long time since I have taken one of the courses, but please check it out if you want.

Thanks for all the information.

HB....I have apologized for the "sweetie" comment....AND....I bumped up one of the threads that shows you the link for the rules...

Again hope it helps.....

Although I can't imagine for the life of me why this has become an issue suddenly when it has been discussed so many times....

I am sure when we do a thread/post search we will all find more if actually needed...and/or a trip to one of the offices...thanks again for the interest...

Have a goodnight HB....

Mostly I use them and Sue uses the golf courses.....

i think you covered all bases, glad your daughter has a good time and sound like you two take good care of her. always a pleasure to read your post. You always bring good spirits to the board.

You explain this very well and I think you made a wise investment for your future (much better than the stock market at this point). You and Sue were smart to purchase your second property within TV so that the resident amenities are yours to enjoy now and in the future.

Thanks friend...can't wait till you get here to enjoy them with us!!

Cassie, please correct me if I'm wrong. BUt I think you've stated a few times that you are looking for friends aged 34 to 50. Well, good for you!! I can certainly understand your desire to be with people your own age. And especially with a young daughter. When I was your age, I certainly respected my elders, but wanted to be with people my own age with common interests.

I'm assuming that most members of TOTV are aged 55 to 90. Therefore, TOTV seems a strange place for you to try to find friends your own age. I think you said that you are 34 years old (please correct me if I'm wrong).

I would really like for you to be happy. You seem to be seaching for something. I hope you find what you're looking for.

Bare...I am actually not really sure what YOU are looking for!

I am happy...very happy....and LOVE all my friends that I have here in TV and on TOTV. Now if you would look back to my other posts on this thread you will find that I was just interested in meeting MORE people....

I was curious to see if there were any other people in this world that have chosen to live TV's (or around TV's) that happen to be under 50.

Admittedly it is an unusal occurence, so I was interested in meeting them and hearing their story. Why did they choose here...what brought them here at a younger age then the norm...

Some how this thread was blown way out of control and was not carried on with it's original intent.

There are some people here that seem to think I may have ulterior motives for moving to TV's....but they don't know me....although I have explained things over and over and over again....it doesn't matter....they can think what they want. I will explain no more...

I honestly do not care anymore....trust me...I don't care...

However, this under 50 question's intent was just like anyone else going out to find other like minded people for a small group once in a while....like sports fans finding sports fans, bikers finding others, religious people finding others....to share conversations and experiences.

As you know there are not many people in their 30's or 40's that CHOOSE to live in this area...and I just wanted to see if there were any on TOTV that were hiding in the closet so to speak. I wanted to share my excitement and love of this area.

While I appreciate all of the people that "suggested" I go elsewhere to find friends my own age.....you just don't get it!

I don't want to make friends my own age....I have friends of many ages....I wanted to share experiences with other people in similar circumstances.... why is this such a hard concept to understand...

I am not sure why you seem to care so much about my well being....

I guess I should just be very grateful to have such concerned person looking out for my best interest.

Although it confuses me that you keep bringing it up again and again. Is there anything more you would like to say. Do you not think that a 34 year old should own in TV's...or hang around with people over 50....

It is ok if you feel that way....you have the right to your opinion and there are a few...just a handful on here that agree with you....as they have stated this to me. Sad that you might feel that way....because I thought you seemed very open minded and care free and I am actually a very pleasant person....and sometimes fun to be around....:MOJE_whot:

But I have MANY friends here in town and they love me for who I am....everything about me....including my age....or despite my age.

So Bare....while I appreciate you wanting me to be happy....you really don't need to worry about me.

Let it go....time to move on....:sigh:

I am doing just great and I really wouldn't want you to waste your time over worrying about me and whether or not I have friends...I do....

and guess what?! I met a lot of them right here on TOTV....:024:where I intend to stay for a very long time....

I think that about covers it all, well put.. Some people think if your under 55 you dont need be around this place. There are alot of younger people that work here, and built this place that are friends with the residents that live here. i guess maybe some people can not grasp that concept. C-325 nothing wrong with what your about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep going on and keep posting!!!

Cassie

You are so blessed to have so many people concerned about your well-being. How nice is that! I have checked and re-checked many other postings by members and I think I am correct when I say that it appears that you are on the minds of other TOTVers more so than any other contributor.
In fact, there seems to be a few people who are so concerned with your well-being that they continually offer you advice on how to be even more happy than you already appear to be. Very nice of these folks; don't you think?
You and I have had fun calling each other "Cousin" but, of course, we're really not. If we really were cousins, I would be ashamed of myself because, as family, I am not nearly as troubled about your happiness as others are.
Yes, so many people really care for you. I guess that's why you purchased a home in TV and intend to spend, gosh what would it be, another 40 or more years enjoying the lifesyle! Yeah, in the year 2045 or so, please be as kind to the young "whipperstappers" that may be living in TV at that time as we older folks have been to you.
