Did anyone go to the Ann Coulter signing?

"BREAKING NEWS: Large group of protesters greets Ann Coulter in The Villages"

This was the article title from the local on-line news site that cannot be named. Did anyone go? What was it like?

The previous Ann Coulter thread was shut down.

manaboutown 09-26-2015 09:55 PM

Had I been there I would have gone. I went to one at Fashion Island in Newport Beach a few years ago and found myself behind hundreds ahead of me in line to have their books signed. I have seen her speak at the Nixon Library. What a wonderful lady and accomplished scholar!

The signing or the protest?
1200 miles away, so I didn't go the either
Anyway, I hate lines, so I would have passed on the signing
As far as the protest goes, I'd rather watch a nail rust
I guess I would have been golfing anyway

I went and was first in line to have her book signed. She was very nice and signed my book "To Mike, Best Wishes to the guy who's first in line." She is tall about 6'. The protesters seemed to be more interested in having a good time among themselves than protesting what she tweeted a few weeks ago. Lots of Sheriffs Deputies and Community Watch were present.

If I was down there I surely would have gone. Folks either love her or hate her, but I tend to enjoy her commentaries. Besides, she drives liberals CRAZY. Can that be all bad?

I had to laugh at that one. That statement probably made some heads explode too. Too funny. :clap2:

There seems to still be a heated(?) conversation going about it in the political forum. Lots of fun, but little on substance.

Here it is right side up!

Went to Barnes and Noble yesterday but after she was gone. I do read her books once in a while just to get a different perspective of what's going on in the world.

I just get them from a library though. :read:

I am one of those liberals she sometimes drives crazy. I wonder what she was like in law school if she had these kinds of opinions? Of course, some law schools are much more liberal than others. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ann_Coulter I see she went to the University of Michigan which like the University of Minnesota would be quite liberal. Was a Law Review Editor so she did very well in law school would be my guess.

Ann Coulter signs "Adios, America" books at The Villages - Orlando Sentinel

Hopefully, this link is appropriate to the thread. :read:

Nice to hear about a peaceful protest for a change. Wasn't there---long lines don't agree with me.

Tal, here's a photo from the Orlando newspaper article that you provided a link. It sure looks like more than 50, even the TV Sun paper said there was about 200 protestors.

I stand corrected. Ann Coulter protest - Orlando Sentinel

Thanks. I was watching The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials at the Old Mill Playhouse while all this was going on around 1:00 PM through 3:00 PM yesterday. I suspect both were entertaining more than enlightening.

The Villages Daily Sun has a few pictures and a short couple of paragraphs on the September 26, 2015 Ann Coulter book signing. It is on A9 of September 27, 2015's Sunday paper.

Ann Coulter protest - Orlando Sentinel

This shows more protesters.

She like a shock jock does say stuff that upsets many people. I usually put shock jocks into the category of entertainment rather than education as they often blur the facts more than anything else.

I do read her books though to see what she has to say about various subjects.

Looks like more protesters than some here have claimed,
Thank you for phrasing your opinion politely, my previous point was simply there is no need to be rude to our neighbors---for all anyone knows they are being rude to their best friend (or worse yet, spouse)
And then an afterthought----do we have at least some responsibility for policing ourselves, or do just leave it 100% up to the moderator???

Bonnevie 09-27-2015 10:37 AM

yes, she does

yeah, she does which is the point. she says outrageous things knowing it will keep her name in the news and she sells more books and makes more money.

I wish they didn't have that protest...just gave her more publicity.

I do think she's extremely smart but calculating.

Ourselves?---100%, it's part of taking personal responsibility
Others?---I don't know, that is why I threw the comment out there. But I feel it is appropriate to some degree. I think most of us pick up a piece of litter off our neighbor's lawn, a MMP, or a golf hole even though we didn't put it there. Just part of being part of a community.

Let

This does seem to capture her of late at least the books I have read as well as recent tweets and the like. I would not want to get in a verbal war with this woman.

golfing eagles: I side with you I find the "b" word as deplorable and offensive as the "n" word. and yet it is commonly, inappropriately and often thrown around in this otherwise PC generated society. Talk about being disrespectful.

How can anyone not like or at least appreciate Ann Coulter's gift for phraseology, her clarity her wit, her insight, her accurate analysis, her beauty.

I mean you may not like what she says but how can you not like the way she clearly states it. I find that refreshing in this day and age of trigger warnings and micro-aggression personalities....

She does have a way with words. And I frequently disagree with her conclusions. But, as a law librarian in inclination and training I like the way she tries to make politics and the like more accessible by writing these books. I wish she would do a thorough investigation though of what Donald Trump has in mind for the country in 2017? She should sharpen her wit and wisdom on both parties. I have never been a big fan of politics as usual.

How many were there when you went? I count between 80-100 in the pictures.

She probably gets a lot more protesters though in some of the other cities she goes to. The Villages still has a lot of Republicans compared to some other communities. It looks like she actually lives in Palm Beach but manages to anger people there too. Ann Coulter draws criticism for apparent anti-Catholic tweet | www.palmbeachpost.com

She lost me when she said women shouldn't be allowed to vote, women have no capacity to understand how money is earned, her remarks saying that Jews are religiously inferior, and so on.

I was going to buy one but decided just to get the wobbly table replaced.

Everything we buy makes someone money. You gave your money to the seller of the table. I didn't need a table.

It's all good. The censorship advocates didn't hurt anyone and gave themselves a false sense of accomplishment.

Saw Ann Coulter on Real Time with Bill Maher. They hit it off so well together you realize how much of act shock personalities are. The other thing I noticed is that she has an Adam' apple.

Bonnevie 09-27-2015 04:46 PM

because she does it for effect

I can absolutely not like the way she state what she does. She's often not accurate, just saying things to incite. She's laughing all the way to the bank.

I went to purchase the book because frankly I read it and its so filled with fact based statistics, data, dates,, names and incidences, its not possible to say anything other than Bravo for a great book and speaking the truth on immigration!

They are quite similar in behavior if not in opinions.

I'm surprised by the lack of nastiness shown here on TOTV regarding Ann Coulter. (Maybe the moderator is keeping it nice). A few days ago on one of the Villages Facebook forums without voicing an opinion on the subject, I was lambasted by a few of the Villages "ladies". I was called an idiot, and insightful moron, member of the KKK, racist and bigot.

Now, I don't go to the political forum here, so don't know how bad it gets, but I will say that the general forum here on TOTV has more intelligent posters than The Villages Facebook page.

I know, I should know better than to expect anything different on Facebook. I was just surprised at the bitterness and nastiness of "ladies" living here.

Sorry, can't do that. After all of the nasty comments, the administrator of the group got rid of the entire thread. I kept a few of the quotes and the names of the "ladies" who made them.
