I would like to go on record as saying that in my lifetime, which is approaching 76 years, I have NEVER called the power company asking why the power is out.
I believe deeply that they are working as hard as they can to restore it. But if it will make any of you feel any better I will call. |
|
Well it does matter if you have medical equipment running!
|
It's worth calling just so they know to bring you cold beer and a warm meal.

I am sorry about not thinking about that possibility. . I hope that it comes back on quickly. Will the EMS help you in this situation? |
Whenever you lose power it is always a good idea to contact the utility company. This can often help them in determining the area of interruption. Also there is always the possibility that your outage is the result of a problem separate from the area outage. All things I learned after working for an electric company for many years.
Hope the power is back soon! |
GG: do you push an elevator button more than once? Do you push it when it's lit when you walk up? I do. Over snd over and over until it gets there.

I would think that their computers would show who had lost power. I have always thought that calling the power company was because of lack of patience on the part of people...... After ascertaining that it wasn't just our house of course. Another way we all differ in how we react to situations. Since it isn't terribly cold and a little less hot, the power being off wouldn't be an emergency for most, but an annoying inconvenience that thankfully doesn't happen often here because of buried lines. |
always call when the power goes out. The power company can ascertain how large the outage is.

You would think they would know. Silly me. They know when it's on and can send you a bill. |
Telephone companies from which I retired after 35+ years and power companies know almost instantly when an area of service is interrupted. Monitoring equipment reports almost instantly to a maintenance center where the alarms are monitored and technicians are dispatched.
There is no need to call as far as letting them know unless you are then only home without power. Even then if you have a smart meter they will know already but you might get a faster dispatch to your home if you call. Imagine a power or telephone company having to sit and wait on customer calls to realize they have a problem and then trying to piece together what was happening. It would be a circus and would take forever.. However old habits are very hard to break and if makes one feel better they are certainly free to call and should.. |

I thought this to be the case, but you confirmed it. I appreciate the education. |
There is a website to report an outage. When I reported it they showed no outages in Sumter County. I have neighbors on medical support. I want to make sure they know. We have a supportive neighborhood
