Soon to be there, insurance questions
Finally we will arrive Monday the 12 to search for new permanent home. Could you members please offer guidance on where to purchase home owner insurance. Are there big differences in rates and if so, why. Thanks in advance for your suggestions. Hope to meet many of you soon.

Allstate does not sell homeowners insurance here. The Villages Insurance company sells insurance that is reasonably priced. Do you plan to get sinkhole insurance as well on your homeowners policy?

Thanks for that correction. I was referring to Allstate specifically. |
My HO insurance is less than half of the quote provided by the Villages Insurance. My hurricane deductible is higher, but I will take that chance with our location and solidly built home. Check out Brown & Brown for a quote.

Switched from The Villages Insurance company to AAA of Florida which offered discount package for house/cars/golf cart. Same coverage/protection but much cheaper!
|
I just went with the Villages Insurance. Easy to work with and a reasonable price.
Closing on Friday! |
We also went to The Villages Insurance for our home owners, flood, and golf cart insurance. They were able to get us coverage for very reasonable rates and are convenient. We may have done better had we shopped around, but with all we had on our plate with retiring, purchasing a new home, and relocating all at once didn't want to fool with it.

Villages Insurance for car and home. Very competitive rates.
For car insurance, they send for a quote to several companies and always give you the lowest price available. I deal with Carri Wildman in Brownwood, 352.753.2280. Very knowledgeable and pleasant to deal with. You must compare policies, as cheaper may not be the cheapest, if something bad happens. |

Also there are two types of sinkhole insurance, one is next to worthless (costs less)
|
I just got a quote on sinkhole coverage. It would cost $188/per year but only pays out 10% of the value of the house. House valued at $270,000 would only be covered up to $27,000. :-(
I'm thinking it's not worth it. |

It says limit $27,000. I did send a message to the insurance agent to see if I'm reading this correctly.
|
Thanks all! Tried to post a longer message and then it disappeared. Just done stuffing the SUV and leave for birthday party in Iowa Saturday and begin trip Sunday. Hope to find a home next week and meet many of you soon. Very helpful group!

USAA Insurance
If you have a military connection, try USAA insurance. In California we used Hartford Insurance through AARP. Hartford does not provide homeowners insurance in Florida.
|
Villages Insurance. They are a brokerage and will find you the best rates.
|
If you are a current Allstate homeowners client you may qualify for Allstate home policy with sinkhole coverage in Florida. If not, Allstate agents write with independent homwoner's companies.

That must be new. 31/2 years ago not only didn't they sell Allstate homeowners insurance, they didn't sell any other homeowner insurance. I moved here as a 20 year Allstate customer, homes, autos & umbrella - whatever. This is the Allstate agency just off of CR466. |

From past experience, I wouldn't insure with Allstate even if it were free. We insure through the Villages Insurance and our agent is always available to answer questions by phone or in person.

"About homeowners insurance - Allstate per se wasn't offering Allstate homeowners insurance as they got out of the homeowner's insurance due to the hurricanes in the years prior, but we had brokered companies such as Tower Hill, Security First, Federated National, and a few others whom we wrote lots of insurance for. Mike and Elaine retired about a year ago and the agency has been taken over by a new owner. There is another Allstate insurance office down the road off 466 which you may have called instead of our office and got your information. We don't know what they were doing as each agency is owned independently. Our office was located next to New York Pizza in the shopping plaza next to Chengs. |

Thank you so much for your reply. I was very disappointed when I learned the Allstate agency I went to did not have any alternative homeowners coverage. In fact they are the ones who referred me to TV for insurance. The office I went to was further east and close to the Publix on 466. I really appreciate the information and wonder why they would not have referred me to the agency you worked with to "keep it in the family." |

Sorry but You were given incorrect information 3 1/2 years ago. Allstate agents have never been without homeowner's market. |

does any company offer insurance for a golf cart that I rent for visiting family members?
|
When we first moved here we went with Brown & Brown as they worked with our existing insurance company. We then switched to AAA for Car & Home. We use Progressive (through AAA) for our golf car. AAA coverage was better and cheaper than what was available through Brown & Brown or The Villages Insurance - I brought my AAA quote to both agencies and they could not match it.

I’ve been with State Farm since I was 18. Is there a State Farm in TV?
I notice The Villages Ins. is very popular. Has anyone had difficulty with a claim thru TVI? Thanks. |
The Allstate office at Palm Ridge Plaza was taken over by Kevin McDonald from the original agent who left and moved back to Broward county. Kevin McDonald is one of the largest Allstate agencies in Florida as well as one of the top agencies in country and offers over 15 homeowner's companies including Allstate for existing clients who qualify. Great agents and great customer service. Kevin owns Allstate office on Hwy 441 just North of Walmart and two offices in Ocala.
|
Yes there is State Farm in The Villages. They have reentered the home owners insurance market. Your current State Farm agent should be able to tell you who to contact.
