El Nino Headed in the wrong direction?

Have anyone else thought about changing their winter plans? It’s forecasted to be warm and dry in Ohio this winter season while Florida is going to be cold and wet. Why am I traveling to the Villages for three months of bad weather? I hope this isn’t the new normal for winter weather.

Actually, my wife says I can’t even think about changing my plans.

Then the question is moot......lol.

If the question was mute we wouldn't be able to hear him, would we?

What ?

A super El Niño does not bode well for us here. I remember one many years back. It was the only winter that my father-in-law in Florida didn't call regularly to rub it in how much better the weather was.

My dog's gonna love it.

I awoke this morning in Ohio to a temperature of 61 at 7:30 A.M. today December 12th. Then, I checked the temperature in Wildwood to find that it’s 57 down in Florida. It had better warm up in Florida if I am going to be down there for several months this winter!

CFrance 12-12-2015 08:22 AM

I imagine you'll appreciate the 57 in Wildwood this winter when it's 17 in Ohio this February!

There is a very strong El Nino year and the warmer waters off the west coast of South America strongly correlates with wetter weather and below average temperatures for us this winter and spring seasons. There is also warm water off well north of the typical El Nino east-west stripe of warm water. Once we are out of this unusually strong El Nino, more "normal" weather is likely.

With all of the talk about terrorism and being prepared, maybe I should include a snow shovel with the things I take with me for my stay in the Villages this winter. :icon_wink:

tuccillo 12-12-2015 08:49 AM

Just an umbrella, and maybe a jacket ;-)

Floridians look forward to the few cool days we get a year. Rearrange your schedule if you must, but please let us enjoy.

I do believe that the weather here in TV this winter will far surpass the miserable last 11 winters of west central MO and south central IL. :)

Medtrans 12-12-2015 10:00 PM

Did you golf, swim or eat dinner outdoors in Ohio? We did here in TV.

As I read this post it made me think of this little song I heard yesterday. The weather is gorgeous here and we are sleeping with the windows open at night and it sure feels great and driving the golf cart around with a tee shirt and shorts on during the day sure is nice. I'm just about positive the weather here in The Villages will be much better than the weather in Ohio this winter!

This afternoon I flew my Piper Cub which started on the first pull. I closed the door as it was a little below 70 air temperature and I wasn’t wearing a jacket.

No sign yet of cold weather in Florida.

Taking a walk back in Ohio with snow? However, you don’t see sheets used like this in Ohio.

That's because you don't have tropical plants in Ohio and everything that does grow is dormant.

I see that some parts of Ohio got a foot of snow over the weekend. It's cold here in the mornings but no snow so far and I doubt that we'll see any this winter. It's 34 there as I type this and 52 here. We spent Thursday at Disney in 70 degree weather. I was in shorts and a tee shirt all day. We're expected to be back into the lower to middle 70s by tomorrow. I see that Columbus will have a high of 47 by next Saturday.

So let's see. 73*, sunny and walking around the Magic Kingdom or 41* and shoveling a foot of snow. Yea, you're right stay up there.

By the way, if I recall correctly, December was unseasonably warm down here. I think you caught one or two of the cool days that we had.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go mow my lawn.
