Avatars

I have tried to add my avatar to site at 12.4 kb and 100 X 100 pixels and get file upload failed.

It's a jpeg image I used before on the old site. Not sure why its getting rejected.

In the custom avatar panel be sure to select,Use Custom Avatar.
I had same problem till I selected Use custom avatar.
Good luck.

Also be aware that there is a difference between the avatar and the picture in your profile.

Avatars appear with each post.

The profile picture appears only in your profile.

Avatars

I had the same problem that Bubbalarry had when I tried to load my avatar. The upload failed. It gave me an error message about improper file type.

Eventually, I just gave up and created a new avatar which loaded successfully.

I loaded my avatar and it came up looking like TONY. Immediately deleted!!!:22yikes:

Dear Admin,

I tried to line thru the part that said "Immediately Deleted" but wasn't able to. It was supposed to read Immediately Applauded" with a smiley face. "Honey have you seen my glasses?" SADIEEEEEEEE NOOOOOOOOOOOOO

tony 09-15-2008 12:22 PM

Ahem! I heard what you said! I'm working over here.
;)

Bubbalarry 09-15-2008 06:50 PM

GOT IT WORKING BY ONLY SAVING THE AVATAR ONCE AND GETTING OFF THE USER CP PAGE. APPEARS ONCE YOU CLICK SAVE AND PIC SHOWS UP AGAIN TO SAVE CHANGES IGNORE IT AND DON'T SAVE JUST GO TO A DIFFERENT PAGE OF THIS SITE.

Bubbalarry. HELP I have my chosen picture in my profile show up, but not in the AVATAR. Having trouble following your methad. Can you walk me thru with different, step by step wording? You seem to have figured it out and maybe are willing to help a thick headed Yank like me.

Ok, here's a step-by-step on placing an avatar picture.
You might want to print this.
  • At top, click User CP (User Control Panel)
  • Go down to Settings and Options and select Edit avatar
  • Click on Upload Avatar
  • In the dialogue box under option 2, click on Choose file. (Select am avatar file from your computer)
  • At the bottom, click the Save button

Keep me posted. Let me know how this works for you.

AHA! Thanks Tony and Bubbalarry! :eclipsee_gold_cup:

Tony, your instructions were perfect... However, after I clicked the Save Changes button it immediately took me back to the Edit Avatar page. Having read the posts, I followed BubbaLarry's advice and went to another page, instead. If I had clicked on Save Changes again, I would have lost the avatar.

Thanks to both of you for your instructions! :a040: :clap2:
I will now attempt the spellchecker. Cross your fingers!

I keep getting a "upload of file failed" message. What am I doing wrong?

Just tried again, making sure my picture was 120X120 and still got "upload failed" I'm done trying, for today at least.

jojo 09-18-2008 05:41 PM

Testing whether my upload worked.

This is brilliant! I've been trying for days and days to upload the avatar I wanted. I always got an error message "Upload failed".

So today, I disregarded the error message (thank you BubbaLarry) and went to another page. It worked!

Pete 09-20-2008 07:32 PM

Keep trying Gnu! Try different pictures, not just one. With me, some pictures work and some don't. And some days are different than other days.

But I can tell you that yesterday it said "Upload failed" and I followed Bubbalarry's instructions and went away, and the magic fairy in the computer made it work.
