Status of Mosquito Control in TV?

There was an earlier thread (now closed) about nighttime spraying for mosquitos. Wonder if it's been discontinued because you cannot go out in the evening these days without getting bitten! It's never been quite this bad in the ten years that we've lived here. It could also be the unusually wet summer. Has anyone encountered the spraying trucks or know anything about the current status of mosquito control in TV?

In the 6 years I've been here I have not encountered one mosquito. Do you live near a pond?

rubicon 11-01-2015 02:58 PM

Mosquitoes have been a problem this year dawn and at dusk

I live near several ponds, and while I'm not full time until next week, I have been there in all seasons and have not seen a mosquito either

Yes! The truck went through St. James the other evening, I believe Thursday, around 10:00pm. I have to agree with the other posters, it has been the worst year I have seen here in The Villages. As soon as the sun starts to set, they are all over me and in I go. The other night I was up working on my computer at around 11:00pm, there was one in my office. You all would have gotten a good laugh as I was determined to get him, which I never did. So I closed up the office door and let my loving husband deal with him in the morning. They don't like him ... he's not as sweet as I am.

Maybe I haven't seen them because they don't like me either

Thanks Bogie. You always come through.

We haven't seen any either.

tuccillo 11-01-2015 04:37 PM

They are very bad down at the Soaring Eagle Softball Fields at dusk.

We live on Pinellas, (back yard on Pinellas) across from Evans Prairie. This year the mosquitos have been really bad.

Hubby doesn't want to grill, and I can't blame him. They are vicious!

Last year we saw them spray quite frequently, maybe 3-4x a month. This year we haven't seen them spray at all. I just looked at the schedule and it only covers a few days, but Pinellas is not on the route.

Maybe I will call the county. We miss being outdoors in the evening.

In Sanibel Heights they have sprayed twice in the last 8 days.

We live on Pinellas (backyard also), and have not noticed a significant number of mosquitoes. In the past (back up North in another life....) I took vitamin K (as I recall), this was the wrong vitamin, it was supposed to be vitamin b-1it causes you to repel the mosquitoes. If you Google this, you will see as many items supporting this as items debunking it. This did seem to work for me, but I know others that it did not work for.
Of course, check with your doctor FIRST.
Hope this helps.

You folks down south have everything! I am north of 466 and have not seen any mosquitoes. However, there was truck that came through the neighborhood spraying.

perrjojo 11-01-2015 09:11 PM

Haven't noticed mosquitos in Mission Hills

Fraugoofy 11-01-2015 09:18 PM

Mosquitoes are bad in Lynnhaven at dawn and dusk. People with O negative blood type attract the most mosquitoes...

Sandtrap328 11-01-2015 09:18 PM

I eenjoy going to the evening entertainment at Lake Sumter Landing. You would normally think - Florida, lakeside, humid, dusk equals clouds of mosquitoes. No mosquitoes at all!

No mosquitoes in Glenbrook either.

The spraying works.

Some time ago, I went to Hurricane's on Hwy 441 in Leesburg. It is on the edge of a swamp. At sunset, the hordes of mosquitoes came out and we had to move inside. Ditto for Mount Dora recently.

I love The Villages!!!

DigitalGranny 11-01-2015 11:24 PM

Had to leave the pool this evening. Mosquitos were eating me alive! Never had a single bite here until today. Live in Country Club Hills. Haven't seen spraying this trip (since Labor Day). Does Lake County spray too?

donsimson 11-02-2015 03:52 AM

They are still spraying. Any doubt, call the county commissioners as the county does it.

asianthree 11-02-2015 06:22 AM

Sitting on the lanai this morning I had one bussing around, must have come in when I got the paper at 4:30. First one I have encountered, and now dead

blueeagle65 11-02-2015 06:27 AM

The truck was just exiting our village when we were returning home a couple weeks ago. It must have been around eleven PM. We've been here for almost 12 years and I have yet to be bitten by a skeeter.

nangelini 11-02-2015 07:11 AM

We've been coming to the Villages since 2009 and have never been bitten until this visit. In the past 2 weeks I was bitten by mosquitoes in several locations, usually around dusk. If there's a mosquito in the vicinity, they will get me, never my husband, so my arms and legs are covered with bites and he has none!

REDCART 11-02-2015 07:28 AM

Thank you all for your impressions. No, we don't live near a retention pond. Also my wife (who admittedly is much sweeter) gets ten bites to my one. So maybe blood type does play a role. We were in Brownwood twice last week in the evening but couldn't stay because of the skeeters. As I said we've never experienced anything like that here in the last ten years.

tink is right check with the dr first and be sure you don't take any vitamin k if you are on blood thinners!!

blmarie 11-02-2015 09:03 AM

I hear the spraying trucks come by weekly about 10:30 p.m. Not sure how much it's helping because there sure are a lot of mosquitos out there!

toeser 11-02-2015 01:28 PM

Maybe I am just lucky, but I often go for early morning (still dark) walks and bike rides, as well as many evening walks and bike rides well into darkness. I have ridden the entire length of TV and have never seen a mosquito, let alone be bitten. Believe it or not, it was one of the main reasons for buying in TV because we literally could not step outside at our last house. From the other posts, I certainly hope this is not changing.

yesi3putt2 11-02-2015 04:37 PM

We live in Alhambra on the pond and do not have a screen enclosure for our lanai..totally open and NEVER have had a mosquito..none

olteech 11-03-2015 07:07 AM

Eaten alive

Although we have lived here for 7 years without ever having a mosquito bite, we were eaten alive outside of the Waterfront a few weeks ago. It was a beautiful evening to sit outside for dinner, but finally had to move inside because of the mosquitos. We thought sitting by the lake had something to do with it.

Villages Kahuna 11-03-2015 02:46 PM

I've never seen or heard a spraying truck here in TV, no have I had a mosquito bite in the nine years we've lived here. Don't know how they do it, but they do!

joldnol 11-03-2015 03:23 PM

gnats have been more of a problem in Dunedin but we have skeeters too

2BNTV 11-03-2015 04:04 PM

Whoaaaa...... don't they have mosquito's where everyone came from? :D

TNLAKEPANDA 11-03-2015 04:56 PM

We never had a mosquito problem here in Collier but last night sitting outside the mosquito's were out in force!

Bogie Shooter 11-03-2015 05:07 PM

Does anybody remember that there was a lot of rain all summer?
