I've seen the last dog I want to see flying out of the golf cart ever. Please highness them in. I guess the same goes for grandchildren. If you don't know the dangers then you shouldn't have either.
I'm sure I'll catch a lot of flak for the statement. I don't really care if it saves anybody some heart ache

gomoho 11-07-2015 03:08 PM

You can't fix stupid.

outlaw 11-07-2015 03:23 PM

I once witnessed a young father cradling his few-months-old baby in his LEFT arm while steering his golf cart with his right hand going what seemed to be pretty much full speed. I think his father or father-in-law was riding in the passenger seat. Very scary.

I dont think you will receive any flack for your comment. I believe we all agree with you.

Years ago when i was here for the first time in a rented golf cart, i had my pup in my lap. I was passenger. We came to an abrupt stop and she flew out. She was unhurt thank God....but never, ever will I let her ride without being harnessed in. I was a newbee at the time and stupid!!

Villager Joyce 11-07-2015 04:13 PM

I absolutely agree with you one thousand percent. Body harness, not a leash around the neck. Think about it.

We were all newbies at one time and golf carts probably a new experience. Your advice is good. Not obvious in the beginning how easy it is to fall out of a golf cart. Sometime usually on the first couple ride the driver makes a turn and the passenger expected to go straight. Enjoy yourselves - still living the dream.

No flak at all, and a big thank you for your post.
Sometimes I see children in precarious positions on golf carts, and I know the parents and grandparents would be devastated if anything happened.
All dogs should be securely tethered with a harness, not a collar.
Let's protect those we love.

Sable99 11-07-2015 05:03 PM

Okay, I give. Mom, my aunt and I are coming down in December with my puppy. The home we are renting comes with a 4-seat golf cart. I've driven a cart many times but never with Lexi. Lexi always wears both her collar (with her ID and tags) and her harness when she is outside. She rideis in a Snoozer car seat in my Flex but what do you attach the harness to in a golf cart? Just curious. I don't want her or my 91 year old mother to fly out of the cart!

ajbrown 11-07-2015 05:08 PM

How we roll....

This is how we used to roll. My girl is a bit older now, so rides are limited... rear legs are too weak <sad, I am not ready for her to go>

I must admit, I never felt stupid once...

Use your car.
Would you put your loved ones on a roller coaster with no harnesseses? Boy Howdy!!!!
[oh my God, i'm making sense and said boy howdy, what's happening to me]

She always looks happy in all your photos. Our Bailey loves the cart.

kcrazorbackfan 11-07-2015 05:58 PM

There's always one "negative nelly". Our pups love to ride in our carts and there is no reason why anyone shouldn't be able to do that with theirs, provided the dogs are strapped in securely. Ours have body harnesses which we run the seat belt through and then we have leashes attached to the basket frame than straps to their harnesses also. They are not coming off that seat.

Villager Joyce 11-07-2015 06:16 PM

I don't think the purpose of the thread is to discourage having dogs or grandchildren in the golf carts. It is a reminder to be safe. Over my 60 something years on this planet, I've done things without a thought. When I look in my rear view mirror of life, I thank the good
Lord I'm here.

perrjojo 11-07-2015 06:43 PM

Our neighbors were riding in the cart with their dog. The dog saw another dog and jumped out and they ran over their own dog. So sad. It can happen. Please take care of your pets.

I like it - another dream comes true

Sandtrap328 11-07-2015 11:05 PM

Last year I saw a golf cart with two kids around 6 and 9 standing up in the back of the cart like two golf bags and had the bag straps around them so they "would be safe". Grams and Gramps were driving the cart at full speed.

Amazing!

Topspinmo 11-08-2015 12:06 AM

Who says you have to drive With the foot to the floor. Slow down and keep your eyes on the road and there won't be not abrupt stops.

You might want to check to make sure the golf cart is insured for rental coverage or you could find yourself in a mess of trouble in the event of a mishap. Ask to see the policy.

I use a short leash and use the basket to loop the leash through. Then hook it to my dog's harness. He can move around a little but not enough to fall out of the cart. Over time he has learned his boundaries and usually just sits there enjoying the breeze.

I should note my dog weighs 16 pounds. For a heavier dog I would use a support post or a structural piece of the cart.

Chatbrat 11-08-2015 11:35 AM

Darwin is being proven right every day--stupidity thins the herd. You would put your grandchild in your car without a child seat--its the law. Guess its ok to jeopardize junior or your puppy because it isn'r against the law. We all know how safer a 500lb golf car is.
Bet most of the people in the Villages never took courses in physics- a 20 lb object @ 20mph-weighs close to 400lbs. Who has the strength to prevent a 400lb object from flying out of their hands ?

Thanks. Lexi weighs just over 10 pounds.

We've always secured our dogs the same way as dbussone and kcrazorbk, with a harness.
If you're lucky, your dog has never jumped or fallen from your golfcart, but it could happen in an instant.
Please keep your dogs safe, they depend on us.

Actually, it still only weighs 20 lbs. But I get your point.
