Free college? Forgive student loans? Big JOKE!!!
Many of us that did get student loans backed by the government somehow viewed we made a commitment. We figured we got the opportunity to get our degrees. And we figured we needed to pay back what was borrowed.
So why does the current generated who made similar loans figure they are in hardship and need to have their obligation forgiven. BS! They can tough it out just like MOST of us did. As for free colleges. I will save my keystrokes. There is no thing as a free lunch. Tuition to state colleges and universities is a good idea. Books, room and board would not be covered. In return for the free tuition, a mandatory service to America would be excellent payback - sort of like VISTA.
I would back any candidate who felt he same way. Remember, just saying you are in favor of such a program does not make it automatically happen. The President (Hillary Clinton) can propose it to Congress but cannot set such a program up by herself. |
More vote buying BS!

Believe it or not 1/3 of the students who took out government loans did not know they had to pay them back

Let's get rid of all public schools. Why do we give free public education? The largest social program in this country.

It really sounds great. Sanders put out a plan back in May for free tuition. TOTAL COST 750 BILLION OVER 10 YEARS (a little over 70 Billion per year) 2/3 of that from the Federal Government and 1/3 from the States. A lot of money.....and he wants to tax Wall St to pay for it. But analysis of the method he suggests is that the income will fall very short of what is needed. NOTE...he also wants to spend 1 Trillion on infrastructure, also paid by taxing corporation profits; expand social security and give more money for a longer period of time. Does anyone think that the government would not be "borrowing" from any of these funds for other things ? I like this kind of things...from Starbucks... "The coffee chain is celebrating Veterans Day in a big way. Starbucks isn’t just giving away free coffee for Veterans Day—it’s giving away free college tuition too. The coffee chain announced on Monday that its employees who are current or former members of the U.S. Armed Forces will now have access to an additional free college tuition benefit that they can extend to a spouse or child. All Starbucks part-time and full-time employees can already get a free college degree through the company’s “College Achievement Plan,” which fully reimburses workers who earn a bachelor’s degree through Arizona State University’s online offerings. More than 4,000 employees have taken advantage of the plan since it was introduced in June, 2014, Starbucks SBUX -0.70% says." I don't have kids. Why am I paying for your children and grandchildren to go to school?

That's my point. We pay what our majority wants. I don't like some social programs and others I do. I vote for the politicians that agree more with my views and then accept what the majority that votes wants.

Not based on what has been going on in recent years they do not. The majority is walked all over by special interest, minority groups and yeas minorities....every day that goes by. Voting for politicians that agree with your views? Is that supposed to work? How did we get Obama Scare health care then? Overwhelming number of Americans were and still are agianst it. How the the Canadian pipeline just get cancelled? Overwhelming number of Americans were for it. Maybe you were just having a flash back to when there was a representaive form of govenment in America. It is most certainly NOT anymore.....and has gotten significantly worse the past 7 years! |

What I am against is the politicizing of the issue and an across the board forgiving of loans for the majority who are in fact living the good life because of their financed education and now feigning reasons why they cannot afford one thing or another. The exceptions need strict guidelines that will not allow the unethical exploitations. |

Like amnesty for illegal aliens, I am against forgiving gov loans for college students.
I worked and raised a family of four children while I took my college courses in my spare time. What spare time you may ask. I worked three jobs at some points. It wasn't easy, but it proved that I wanted that piece of paper that I THOUGHT I needed to get ahead. That is a myth perpetrated by the elite to make them feel important. But, that is another subject. I sent my daughters to private school so that they could get an education without the disruptions seen daily at public schools. I didn't own a new car for twenty plus years as I worked to provide a decent education for them. That continued into their college for two of them. We obtained some student loans that I agreed to pay for if they graduated with a degree. I did not want them to work while in school, so I provided all their extras, such as food and entertainment, books and travel. My youngest graduated with a four year degree at age 20, with honors. I'm providing this information to alleviate any questions. I am a firm believer that when you take out a loan, whether it is a college loan or a mortgage, you agreed to pay back the loan institution. They gave you the loan in good faith, therefore you should pay it back in good faith. We paid all our obligations of student loans over several years, but WE paid the loans back. Student loans are part of the education of these young people. If they shrug off the loans without paying them back, then they did not get a decent education. Besides, a college degree is not the only way to make a good living. Vocational training will make some young folks just as much or more than those with degrees. While I was earning my lower degree, I had certifications that allowed me to make the same exact pay as my colleague that had a PHD. At one point I was making six figures with only a two year degree. So, a college degree being a tool or key for entry into many careers, but is not an end all requirement for making a decent living. I will never push someone to obtain a college education if I don't think they have the means or inclination to pay it back. Coddling children makes weak adults. The gov should NOT pay for a free college degree. We have seen what kind of mischief children get into when everything is done for them, and example being the current college protests. It is bad enough that the Feds have become involved in the public school system and corrupted it. If individual states believe that these children deserve a free college education, then let them tax their residents to do so. The Feds have messed up education to the point where a high school diploma today means that the graduate barely knows how to read, and forget about math. Civics seems to be a thing of the past. A high school education today is not even close to equal that of yesteryear. |

from one who raised a family of while going to college......shool 8AM until 2 PM then work from 3 OM to 10 PM then school work from 11PM until? After graduation, very happy to honor the commitment that allowed me to afford to do it....I PAID MY LOAN BACK over the 10 years as promised. And I can tell those who are claiming loan hardship.....BS! Using the cowardly definitions of "hardships" being parroted today, I would have been at the head of the line by a mile. MAKE THEM PAY!!!!! |

======= Not aimed at you: I wonder if anyone understands the old saying that "money doesn't grow on trees." Money has to come from somewhere, or someone. Why is it OK with liberals to assume that it is OK to TAKE someone else's money as long as they have good intentions for it? They have no regard for how hard someone else may have had to work for that money, because if that person has more than them, it should be shared. |
I'm thinking about the loans these kids have today and would like to have someone tell me in today's dollars how that shakes out. Tuition is much higher and salaries are lower. So someone with a better brain then mine please do the math. Compare someone graduating from college in the 60's and the average student loan debt and the salary they could expect to receive as a teacher to someone graduating in 2015 with the same parameters.

I think I am almost/almost convinced that abortion is prudent today. Postnatal abortion of useless child adults may be the solution to a slack society.

I will bet there is 75% that are. And who do in fact intend to pay back their commitment. It, as usual, is the 25% that the cameras, the media and the politicians support, hence THAT IS ALL WE HEAR ABOUT. Born, bred and raised to have their hand out or in your pocket! |
