The Villages Media Group fired the kid
(I say kid, he's 24) who made this video and posted it on social media.
What do you think? Funny or offensive? This is what it's like to live in The Villages as a young person | Blogs | Orlando Weekly |
My opinion...
Mildly funny. Possibly a bit offensive a couple of times for the thin-skinned. Several places it was not particularly accurate, but when you're going for a laugh, sometimes you need a bit of artistic license. Overall...not bad, not great. |
Funny, mostly truthful, matter of fact I am going to share the link with family members, with a few comments, but firing seems a bit much. A reprimand and probation I think would have been more appropriate, but I do not know their terms of employment.
|
I don't know the terms of employment, either. It was called "derogatory and an embarrassment to the company" by the leadership of the Villages Media Group.
|
Thought it was cute!! Obviously, The Villages Media Group lacks a sense of humor!!

I loved it.............. get over it management.......this is funny stuff.... gotta laugh at yourself, sometimes....
|
Not too funny. Clearly not balanced. Not sure what his intent was. I didn't find it insulting, but I guess he bit the hand that fed him.
|
I thought it was good, but, some word choices could have been different, but, not really that bad! Can't do anything any more without the fear of getting fired.

I think it's kinda cute.
Are you sure he was employed by The Villages Media Group and they fired him? That's not what it says on his Facebook page. It says he is employed by a Senior Living business in Ocala.
|
It wasn't funny... it wasn't offensive... it wasn't much of anything.
Firing seems a bit severe though. Maybe they figure his somewhat low regard for the people here could eventually be a problem. At least he didn't bring up the STD story. |
I thought it was fun to watch. It was not at all offensive to me. While I don't agree with some of his characterizations, it was interesting. If he got fired for that I certainly would not want to work for his employer (or former).

I found it mildly funny and not very accurate. Just looks like an ordinary Villager's grandkid having some fun. |
I thought it was hilarious. Clearly he has a great sense of humor. Sorry the Villages doesn't have a better sense of humor
|
Cute. Not funny funny but funny cute. A few smiles, no real laughs. Not sure what was derogatory or even mildly offensive. If this got him fired, The Villages Media has a problem.
|
Maybe "the kid" was ready to move on anyway. I thought the video was pretty creative. We have a grandson just a year younger than the kid---I could see him doing something like that if he was rather bored with his job. I suppose the "head" of media believes they have a certain image to uphold.
We do not know what happen before or after the video so a real judgement is difficult to make regarding the firing. |

He lives in TV, why?
Maybe he should just move on if he finds it so offensive. |
If he was in high school and turned this in I would have given him an A. But he's way out of high school so it needs work. You have to start someplace.
I don't think it's offensive. He's up there dancing with his grandfather. That takes a lot of moxy and respect. If I was his grandfather, I'd be feeling pretty good. If someone figures out a way to help this kid get his job back, I'll help too. |
I didn't see anything wrong with it. I have met him and he is a very nice young man.
|
This piece is a great advertisement for the Villages. It shows lots of people having fun-whats not to like.
|
I can't imagine why a 24 year old person would want to live here unless he was financially needy. This place sure isn't geared for that age group.
|
I thought it was cute certainly didn't deserve to be fired.
|
See his father's facebook page:

I chuckled a few times, and I wasn't offended. Let's face it. We are a bit unique! I didn't see anything that I thought was mean spirited. Surely we can laugh at ourselves a little.
|
I'm brand new to TV. I found it amusing and plan to share it with everyone, especially those that think TV is strange. He has a great sense of humor. Not offense to me.

I was doing that when I was 24-27 or so in Belmont, CA. Ziff Davis Media Inc. Company Profile, Information, Business Description, History, Background Information on Ziff Davis Media Inc. I am wondering if that is the whole story with why the Villages Media Group fired this kid? He looks very extroverted which I would think would be a strange fit for the Villages' life style unless he really likes the company of seniors. |
I loved the video! Very creative. I have also
Enjoyed his dancing to Scooter many times. With his talents I am sure he will be successful. Good luck, young man. My only advice is to Make good choices! |
Not entertaining
Let's see ---- self absorbed 24 year old seeks attention by satirizing the activities of older people using snippy dialogue with a snarky attitude and tone. What's not to like?
Should he be fired? That's up to his employer. |
I would say the Villages Media Group should be thankful to have such a talented individual working for them.
Talk about thin skinned! I found it amusing and entertaining and the kid shows tremendous potential. Hopefully he will find someone who appreciates this potential. Our loss. |
I actually got a kick out of it. No offense taken here.
But I do understand the employer reaction. |
I take no offense. His employer over reacted, IMHO.

1. The title of his video is what it is like to live in The Villages as a young person
2. Which part of the video was not true 3. I was riding the cart path today and somewhere between 466A and 44 I seen a dark grey house. My spouse commented on how it was so noticeable. I responded have you noticed the farther south we travel the more the houses look alike. The distinguishing feature is the size and configuration of the bird cage. Shame on anyone that fired him for his artistic ability (which I highly doubt happened). Plus whatever happened to freedom of speech. His interpretation of what life here as a young person is just that. How about 24 hour news media giving me their interpretation of the news - when do they get fired. |
No offense taken here...but then again no giggles either. Thought it was kind of a lame effort particularly if his expertise was in "media". Overall, I would have given it a B- if it was submitted as a high school project. Definitely should have gotten someone else to do the voice over -- that bit was really annoying and took away from some of the content.
