Found a great butcher!!

Found a great butcher today. Went to "Best Meats" on 301 in Wildwood. Got a bone in ribeye. The marbelling was incredable. Grilled it. It was tastier & more tender than any filet I've had in the Villages. Literally the best steak I've had in Florida in the last 10 years. @ 14.99/lb--a bargain. No more super market steaks.

Buy a good steak in this store , you'll be a believer,too--I found out about it from a fellow Villager

THANKS

A few years ago I asked the young lady, behind the deli counter at the supermarket, if she knew of any butchers in the area. She had no idea what a butcher is. She called over her colleague and the colleague looked very puzzled by the question. Then she says, does a butcher have something to do with meat?

I was probably 45 but was feeling 105. I know many are optimistic with today’s youth, I’m not.

There is a very good meat market like that in Bellview going north just past where 301 connects to 441....Bellview Meats.

Thank you, Chatbrat and billethkid.

I too thank the both of you for the information. This is what makes TOTV such a gem. :)

It's the only place I can find good cracklings!

We have been buying our meats from Pasture Prime who has a tent at the farmer's market at Brownwood every Saturday. I go online during the week to place my order and on Saturday morning we pick it up. We haven't been disappointed yet by any of their meats. We are especially loving their bacon these days.

Chatbrat 11-25-2015 01:52 PM

Can the guy in the tent custom cut your meats. If the meat is from grazed animals--it won't come close to the meat @ Best Meats. Honestly I bought waygu from the guy @ the Brownwood mkt--the steak I cooked last night blowed it away.

So glad I found this thread....thanks for the suggestions! Love TV but do miss my butcher.

Thanks for the recommendation. Went there today and found the place a little bit on the plus side of deplorable. All meats I saw were prepackaged in a cooler and looked less appetizing than the cases at W/D or Publix. Saw a sign that said custom cutting but unfortunately no display case to show what they are cutting from. Bottom line, wasted an hour driving to Wildwood but it was a really nice day. Will defer to my frozen Hereford Filets from Fresh Market.

billethkid 12-03-2015 04:42 PM

All the cuts of meat there are fresh cut and wrapped On site.
Welcome to a small town butcher shop.
If one is looking for fancy property and fancy store this is not for you.
If you know what you want just ask and they will cut it for you. If they don't have it they will get it for you.

The store in Bellview is a butcher shop and seafood store only.

Everything cut fresh and packaged on the premises.

If you are looking for a Fresh Market butcher shop save the trip and go to Fresh Market...........nice surroundings but no better cuts of meat.

In another life long ago I was/am a journeyman meat cutter. Did I mention really long ago?

To each his/her own.

Chatbrat 12-03-2015 04:43 PM

To bad , you have to speak to the butcher for the good stuff. The initial impression is for the masses. if you took the time to ask about the real meat- you would have been more than satisfied. I was given this heads up-before I stepped foot in the place.

Chi-Town 12-03-2015 04:58 PM

The problem is that we all have a mental picture of what a meat market should look like from before. I would find it hard to adjust to one that had only prepackaged meat on display. Will check the Bellview location meat market.

If you're going to try Belleview Meat, hit up groupon for 40% off.

My dad was a butcher. He has a missing index finger to prove it. Darn band saws. LOL
One store he worked at specialized in sides, hinds & quarters of beef. Years ago, I worked there for awhile doing the meat cleaning, cubing, grinding & wrapping. Got to dislike the smell of meat and didn't eat it for awhile.

rdhdleo 12-04-2015 02:32 PM

Tried Belleview Meats once it was "ok" Went past the Wildwood one many times will try it now and ask for the good stuff LOL Does anyone know where their beef comes from? I am spoiled by Mid-west beef being a Chicago girl. Which is why we drive with coolers to Mazzaro's Italian Market in St. Pete.

JSR22 12-04-2015 03:08 PM

We buy our meat from the Meat House in Winter Park
They have large glass cases full of any red meat, pork and poultry
TheY will cut to any thickness requested. Every cut of beef imaginable.
Additionally, great deli counter
Expensive but worth the price.

That should be send to Reader's Digest and posted at laughter is the best medicine.

We stopped in thought the same thing..no display cases showing fresh meat like we were used to up north...but we spoke to the owner and tried some steaks that they recommended. They were great! So I guess the old phrase "don't judge a book by its cover" is true in this case.
The store is small but they have been in business a long time. So go in and get the custom cut of meat you desire.
We will go back again. Small town butcher with great meat!

Chatbrat 12-05-2015 06:05 PM

OOT-you got it right -speak to the butcher & you will get the really good stuff. Its not rocket science open your mouth --tell him what you want & enjoy

I went there this afternoon on your recommendation. As others have stated the store leaves a little to be desired aesthetically. I saw the sign Custom Cuts and asked the gentleman there if he had any Angus Rib Eye steaks about an inch thick. No problem, he goes and gets a huge piece of meat and cuts us two 1 inch steaks. They were $14.49/lb and weighed just shy of 2lbs . This evening I grilled them medium rare and my goodness what a delicious steak. We will be back for more in the future that's for sure. In response to others about the store if you are looking for fancy displays of fresh cut meats unwrapped this is not the place for you. If you ask for what you want like we did you may just be surprised. Thanks for the post.

I miiss my butcher as well!

marianne237 12-05-2015 07:58 PM

Have been to this store many times. A few years ago, we asked them to make up a pork crown roast for us.....really pleased. My husbands family had a butcher shop up north and he is very fussy about what we put on the table. He has no problem with what we've bought in Wildwood. Talk to the butcher.
