Pool Restrooms Used by Contractors?
Noticed in the 'other' newspaper that 2 non-villagers used the bathrooms at Colony Neighborhood Pool and stole money, credit cards, etc. I noticed at our neighborhood pool that many contractors (lawn care, trash removal, etc.) use the bathrooms. Is that allowed? But then I thought about the alternative, i.e., where would they go? Just curious.....
|
I have seen service workers such as lawn crews, garbage collectors, etc use the golf course restrooms at the 7th hole on Fox Run many times. To me, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Where else would you expect them to go for a bathroom need?
How would money or credit cards be stolen from bathrooms? Do some people leave wallets on the counter when using a stall? Mighty foolish if they do! |
Pool Restrooms Used by Contractors?
The victims, let's prosecute...yes

Think the stolen items were on benches or shelves while folks took showers and got dressed. Kinda dumb, to me. To blame the lawn crews, etc. is just wrong IMO. Anyone could have gone in and stolen the items from rec staff to Villagers and their guests to workers to thieves who prey on this type of behaivor to workers.
And, yes, workers are allowed to use the pool, rec and golf course restrooms. Certainly beats the alternatives. |
The Colony Neighborhood Pool does not have showers except for the one to use before entering the pool. In three years I have never seen anyone use it. The rest room is in the corner and near some tables. I would guess if this really happened the items were left on said tables. I highly doubt that anyone would leave valuables just laying out on tables near a rest room.

Now we have someone who leaves his keys in the postal box and may well go to the car and find it stolen . So here in The villages and as they say "expect the unexpected" Buono Natale |

Where does anyone that works in the field go ? Typically behind a dumpster, behind a tree, an empty gatoraid bottle or in the case of a more substantial need, a 5 gallon pail lined with a plastic bag. The devil is surely in the details. |

I would hate to see contractors going behind the bushes. :22yikes: |
These two thieves were just that...thieves. Both have prior convictions for theft and who knows what else. This probably isn't the first time they have entered restrooms near pools knowing there may be valuables left unattended while people are swimming. And then to run right over to local merchants and use the stolen credit cards so quickly just shows how disgustingly savvy they are in being criminals.

A couple has been arrested after they were connected to the theft of a pair of shorts from the men’s changing room at the swimming pool at Colony Cottage Recreation Center.
The shorts were taken Dec. 4 and contained a Villager’s wallet which held $100 cash, his Florida driver’s license, an Outback Steakhouse gift card, his Villages ID card, and three credit cards. The credit cards were later used at three local businesses – the nearby Walgreens, Publix and Shell gas station, all on Colony Boulevard. Items purchased included Vodka, beer, cigarettes, razors and prepaid credit cards. Brian Mark Krajewski Brian Mark Krajewski Kelly Ann Hendrix Kelly Ann Hendrix Video surveillance and other clues led Sumter County Sheriff’s Office detectives to 40-year-old Brian Mark Krajewski and 51-year-old Kelly Lynn Hendrix. They were arrested on Tuesday on charges including larceny and fraud. Both told detectives they had stopped by Colony Cottage Recreation Center to use the restroom. Hendrix was out on bond at the time the shorts were stolen. She had been accused of stealing from a 79-year-old Villager. Hendrix was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $20,000 bond. Krajewski has prior theft convictions in Lake and Osceola counties. He posted $6,000 bond and has been released. |

Use ID cards
Sorry, but I believe we should have to use our ID card to enter all facilities....the pool, the Rec centers, the pickleball courts. We pay for those facilities. They are not open to the public, yet any of the public can access them. Anyone can go into a Rec center and use the bathrooms. These are not public facilities. If we had to use our ID cards this would eliminate our facilities being used by those who haven't paid for them. We all came from places that did not have pools, Rec centers and the abundance of facilities that The Villages has. And, we all had contractors working in our towns and cities. They found places to potty....usually gas stations or quick marts. Why should it be different here?
|
This question came up when we were attending the Villages Academy. The answer was that the pool bathrooms were "public" and therefore available for everyone. (I should have asked "if that's true, are they maintained by tax money or Villager fees? But I didn't.)

The rush by some to attack the victim as less than smart is to be expected here. The only thing he Is guilty of is thinking TV is a safe place. As TV grows in size and population, so will the number of low life's It attracts looking to take advantage of it's residents and facilities.

True, the two thieves should be sent to a hard time jail for a long stretch.
However, you just have to think that ANYONE in The Villages would know - from their past life experiences - that you NEVER leave your wallet with money and credit cards out of your sight. |
Can we get pictures of the perps?
|
The collier neighborhood pool restrooms are used very heavily by contractors. Unfortunately the bathrooms are out of service more than they should be because of the messes left behind. I don't know what the answer is but it's discouraging that the bathrooms are left with toilets overflowing etc. . Contractors working outside of the villages find places to go to the bathroom.

I don't see this as an issue! Where would you have the workers "go"?? I'm thankful for the grounds-keepers and others who make this a beautiful place to live in. My thoughts go to "let's try to pay things forward and not be negative, be kind and not impatient and think we're above others"!!

Wherever we lived before, did all the do-gooders on here tell landscape, building, and other contractors to just walk in and use bathrooms at the member-owned pool & tennis club nearby? Never!! |
Personally, I do not mind one bit if maintenance workers use the pool or golf course bathrooms - but like anyone be clean about it.
I, however, think that ID card check should be a MUST for someone to enter the pool area to sun and swim. There are lots of non-residents from the surrounding communities who regularly use the pools. They know the random pool checkers will not check IDs of people in the water so they hop in when a check is being started. |

I'm a contractor, not insulted. [emoji849] I think it's funny, knowing I made more money than some guy who worked behind a desk his whole life. |

My father was an electrical contractor. I never asked him if he was told not to use certain bathrooms because he's only a contractor and might not know how to not leave a mess. How about police officers? Can they use our bathrooms? |
