The Republican Party really screwed up by passing the giant transportation and Omnibus spending bills before they ran home for vacation. Those two items created a whole new level of dependency on unfunded government spending. I do not think the opportunity to start rolling back the reckless spending track we are on now will ever stand a better chance. Malcolm Gladwell wrote of this in his book "The Tipping Point". When 47% of us pay no federal income tax I don't think we will change anything at the polls, only some kind of disaster will change us.

The Republicans had no choice. Either go with it, or allow Obama to veto anything else and shut down the gov. blaming it on the Republicans. Obama really needs to go before he does more damage than our country can come back from. He is the most dangerous tyrant of this century. And he is determined to cause more damage before he leaves the White House.

This country will only survive IF we elect a conservative to the position.

The Executive does not maker law or control spending, the CONGRESS does.

The R's keep blabbering that THEY control the purse strings

Voters see right through these Con lies, which is why we will elect a Democrat to the WH for many years to come

advocating that more of the same that is not working??? Really?

Nothing will change until there is a true representaion of the wants of the people instead of the partisan pi44ing contests of today.

Which the representatives continue to to be paid and re-elected while doing nothing more than serving themselves.

We the people are asleep at the swith.....STILL!!

You're reply supports my point, we cannot elect a real fiscal conservative because of what was just passed, the numbers are just not there anymore. You also confuse the Republicans running as conservatives, they're not, except for a couple who stand no chance of being elected.

You need to go back to school and repeat your Civic class. There is this thing called a presidential Veto. Run your mouth all you want, but the Republican congress did the only thing they could have to keep the gov open and still have a chance of electing a responsible president. And the funny thing is that the liberal on here is admitting that Obama/democrats are irresponsible by the way he puts down the Republicans for the new budget. And he can't take that back.

Nope, the Republicans played it just the way they had to.

And I guess the liberal has not been watching TV news today or yesterday or he would have heard how Obummer is going to use E.O. to make new gun control law. Well, he attempted it with immigration and got shot down by the Supremes, so lets see what happens this time. He is a dangerous, misguided and delusional failure, but there is nothing we can do about it until he leaves, kicking and screaming. I bet Michelle can't even stand him.

Sorry, but I do not support winning one battle just to make a point that would fail anyway. Obama would have shut down the gov and blamed it on the GOP. That would not have gone well in the elections. Before a Republican congress can fully control the gov, it has to have a president that can compromise. We do not have one. Obummer is the worst of all presidents that we could have. He uses hate mongering and race as his leverage and the stupid people believe him. He is the most dangerous type of tyrant of all.

"Before a Republican congress can fully control the gov, it has to have a president that can compromise." What is your definition of "fully control". It had to be the same definition as your definition of the word "compromise", which is give us everything that we want and we will call that a compromise.

Did the Democrats get everything that they wanted in the budget? No, they didn't. Obama is the most dangerous type of tyrant. He sure is. That is one that is willing to compromise. Maybe that is the reason a government shut down would be blamed on the Republican is because in their world compromise is a swear word.

Who cares if the Republicans got blamed, it would have been the right thing to do. The President and Progressives got a big win because our party said we will do it next time. Really. Elect us again. We really mean it this time.

So, lets be clear on this. You feel that the Republicans should have stood their ground and pass a budget that would be veto'd and then the gov would be shut down? And then, you feel that because of that, they would then get elected? And a we would get a Republican president also? What fantasy world do you live in? No wonder we have an idiot in the White House, if we have people with a vote that don't understand how the government works.

Guest 01-02-2016 10:05 PM

i think there are enough knowledgeable voters now to realize that it would have been the President shutting down the govt and they would have voted republican. now the result is that even republicans don't want to vote republican! i am voting for Trump, Cruz or Dr Carson, whichever might get the nomination.

Dear Guest: You are either one who lives a very sheltered life or a troll. In either case for the record here is a response.

You are correct. Essentially Congress (Legislative Branch) makes law and controls spending. The Executive Branch carries out those laws, and the Judicial Branch (Supreme Court) interprets such laws. Its called separation of powers and was constructed to maintain balance

However Obama has turned this fine balance on its head by veto, executive order, regulations (over 80,000 pages in 2015) via federal agencies (czar appointed and not elected. He essentially has ignored Congress altogether and has taken public issue with some of the decisions made by the Supreme Court, to wit Citizens United (see below)

This dance of his has been going on for his entire tenure and it has been very damaging. Anyone who believes what Obama says are as they say in the game of politics "useful idiots", because Obama doesn't care about you, me or them. Obama is a puppet to internationalist that want to take America down a peg or two. All one has to do to know this is true is to take a broad view of the tapestry of Obama's political works

For example, in response to Citizens United a decision and its deciders he publicly ridiculed at one of his televised State of the Union addresses, he sent his bull dogs (IRS) to counter its effect by targeting conservative groups.

Unlike some on this thread the threat of a government shut down did not concern me one bit because essential service by law must be maintained and you can't fool all of the people all of the time.....Many people including some of the liberal media are finally realizing what a monster Obama the Terrible really is and the damage he has wrought on America. I make this statement with a heavy heart because as Americans are taught one supports and respects the position of the President of these United States.

However in this case I have never acknowledge Obama as being my president and I believe he has been very disrespectful of America and its people and as such he has not earned their respect.

Personal Best Regards:

That has got to be a winner in the most stupid response on this forum :eclipsee_gold_cup:. It's not the Republicans that are at war against Christianity. It's not the Republicans that are socialists on the way to communism and it's your messiah in D.C. that's the Tyrant dictator with the executive order pen and makes unconstitutional law. And before you come back and ask me to give proof of that, do your own research on how many E.O.'s the supremes have deemed unconstitutional.

Either you are truly that ignorant, or you are just a baiting liberal troll. Either way, that was a stupid response.

Personally, I do not know of ANY Republican voters that would vote for Hillary. And I live in the Villages, where the majority of the residents are conservative. So, I assume that you are just attempting to bait, or extremely ignorant. No one conservative wanted them to continue to fund planned parenthood, but the only way to avoid shutting down the gov and taking the Rap for it, was to pass a budget that Obummer would sign and not veto. It's called a tactical retreat. They could have stood their ground and taken a political @$$ whooping, or they could wait until they had the power to win by electing a Republican president. If they thought there was no chance of winning the election, then they would have been justified in fighting this battle. They did exactly what I would intelligently want them to do. They had no option available. Obama is determined to be his normal petulant child and get his way, regardless of what damage he does to America. He is a slime that is protected by his minority status only, and can only be beat by enduring the fallout from his tantrums.

It is not called a tactical retreat. Americans don't retreat no matter what party they are in. What they do is "advance in a different direction".

The one overwhelming theme on this board is Republicans aren't responsible for anything that has happened in the last seven years. Their job is to sit there and cry like a baby every time they don't get your way. Republicans have excelled at it of this they have no equal.

You keep on mentioning Obama threat of using the veto to stop legislation he doesn't agree with, but not word one about McConnell use of the filibuster to stop just about everything, and everybody proposed by the Democrats.

If Republicans are afraid of getting blamed for a government shutdown, maybe people don't agree with their proposals. We know that can't be, because they are never wrong, or at least they think that they are never wrong.

Let's see, "Republicans cry like a baby" and yet it is always you liberals that whine on here all day long.
Obie's Veto power? Yes, he has threatened to veto any budget he did not agree on. He told congress what they HAD to do and that he would not accept anything less. A tyrant by anyone's standards.
You Liberals continue with the filibuster cr@p, and yet have no problem with how Reid kept a hundred House passed bills on his desk, refusing to allow a vote on them, or even a discussion. Talk about a hypocrite.
"Maybe people don't agree with them.." Yes, of course. That's why we have a Republican majority now, because the people don't believe in them. Have you thought about that?

We do know a few things that are a given. We have a tyrant in the White House, that does what he wishes and knows that no one is going to stop him because he can get over by using his minority status. We know that he is a socialist by his own words and that he cares more for the feelings of Muslims than American Christians, and those Christians overseas that are getting murdered. We also know that he hates cops, agrees with the Black lives matter cretins, and the Wall St protesters/cretins. WE know that he believes in leading from behind, which really means FOLLOWING. We know that appearing on TV is more important to him than doing his job. We know that he considers the Republicans to be his "enemies" by his own words.

I apologize, I don't have time to list all the things that I do not like about Obama, the leader of the Democrat party. Sorry, but in my opinion Obama is not fit to run our country, since he does not love it as one that fought for it. He is attempting to make us European socialist, his words, and that is UN-American. I believe that if he thinks that I am one of the enemy, then he IS the enemy. And he is leader of the Democrat party, the defunct Democratic party. Most likely soon to become the Democrat Socialist party and then the United Socialist States of America.

And I do not apologize for being a Republican, or try to make everyone think that I am Independent.

You do not seem to be able to grasp that it is the majority of voters who make the difference. The majority of voters making the differences now are the minorities of the past now combined into the Democratic party. The Republican/Tea Party did not reach out to these groups to be included in their party.

Hillary wins!

The Republicans have gain the majority, because people don't agree with him. He won the majority of the votes in the last election, why, because people don't like him! You don't think that Gerrymandering had anything to do with their gains in the Senate, and the House. Of course not, Republicans will never concede the obvious.

How many of those House bills were to repeal Obamacare? 54+! How stupid do you have to be to keep sending the same bill to the Senate, and expect a different result. Insanity is not a strong enough word to describe 54+ bills road to nowhere. How many of those bills that Reid sat on had substantial bipartisan support?

There was a bipartisan immigration bill that passed the Senate with a substantial majority. It was never brought to the floor in the House, because of the Hastert rule. Is the Hastert rule the first amendment to the Constitution? It must be, because the first thing that a bill has to get by in the Republican House.

How many times do you have to get burned in the Middle East before you feel that it is a hopeless cause? You can't lead people that do not want to follow. How many troops do you want to send into Iraq, and Syria to get rid of ISIS? 100,000 or 200,000! How long do you keep them there? Forever.
By the way, please tell everyone why the Senate, and House will not vote on a bill that has anything to do with Syria or ISIS. These cowards don't want to put their names on anything. What the hell have Republicans put forward on Syria, and ISIS that isn't being done?

When you refuse to compromise on anything, and run away from things that were your beliefs because Obama put them forward, what does that make you? How do you deal with people like this? When you use the powers granted to you by the Constitution, you are called a tyrant.

You use the word "socialism" like it is swear word. Having social programs doesn't make you a Socialist. Maybe you should look up the definition of the word "socialism". You won't, because you don't want to know what it is. It is a swear word, so it won't be in any respectable dictionary, or web site.

Socialism IS a swear word to REAL Americans. Perhaps YOU should look the word up. There is more to the definition than a few lines. But, ignorant people will vote out of avarice, which in this case leads to socialism.

I could go into each area of your diatribe but I know better than to try to convince a liberal.

You can lead a liberal to the truth, but you can't make them THINK !

PLease get your facts straight as per vetos. "Obama has turned this fine balance on its head by veto" The republicans have done a fine job with vetos.

President Regular Pocket
vetoes vetoes

Dwight Eisenhower 73 108
John Kennedy 12 9
Lyndon Johnson 16 14
Richard Nixon 27 17
Gerald Ford 48 18
Jimmy Carter 13 18
Ronald Reagan 39 39
George H. W. Bush 29 15
Bill Clinton 36 1
George W. 11 1
Barack Obama 7 1

IN order for Obummer to veto something, it had to get through Reid's Senate, right? Good luck on that. Your stats mean nothing in this case.

You lefties always have an excuse for failure, don't you?

Democrat, Republican, progressive, conservative...its been so long since we have seen a true statesman at work that we have lost the meaning of it altogether. I am a registered Republican and I am sick of hearing the same lame excuse from the Ryan's and McConnell's who have the power of the purse, the ability to Legislate and the majority to govern who seem either too afraid or too timid to move forward. We are fortunate these guys are not on the front lines because all the enemy would be seeing is their backs.

Republicans should have at least learned that Obama's leading from behind is a failure and it sure is not going to work for them.

Again I am not a Trump supporter but one can see why he is indeed popular

Personal Best Regards:

Personal Best Regards:

his following continues to grow because he says what many/most Americans think.

He represents a relief from the business as usual cronyism politicians.

He like many of us does not subscribe or bow down to the self induced pressures of the phony posture of political correctness.

And like the rest of us, from time to time he states something not very popular or even wrongly......much better than a crony, chronic, continuously lying career politician.

And maybe most important why he resonates positively? He does not owe anybody in the political system or the media and is free to say what he thinks is right....like it or not.

He is a threat to everything that is political.

He does Clinton a favor by capturing the focus of the media.....or should I say enduring the focus of the media while they fly cover for her.

I will support a person who tells it like it is.

Fear the party that offers no choice!

Typical response from a Republican only idiots would think that this country would ever become a socialist country. Socialism is used to put the fear of god into idiots that Republicans are chasing for their vote. Who are the majority of Trump supporters?

If you want to talk to a Republican direct your talk to their butts, because that is where their heads are located. You want to take low blows at me then accept to get them back.

There is such a thing called "guilt by silence". When you don't respond, you can't, because you actually know what is being said is true.

You know, there is a saying that goes something like this:
"The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world that he doesn't exist."

Just keep believing that it can't happen in America. The gov loves the naive.
