Eye Exam - Where to Go?
I need a routine eye exam for glasses (both regular and transitions) and for daily wear contact lenses. What facility/doctor would you recommend?
Ideally they would accept Eyemed insurance. Thanks in advance. |

Buenos Aires Blvd, Ste 170 The Villages, FL 32159 352-751-6099 He is a very quiet, very good gentle eye doctor. I have problems with one eye and he has been watching the progress in this eye for some time now. I also like his technicians. |
Go to Peepers in Colony or Hindsight in Pinellas. Either one, you'll have your eye exam by an ppthamologist and your glasses within 24 hours
|
I also like Peepers from using them in the past for some minor adjustments, etc.
But for insurance purposes, I'm currently leaning toward Lake Eye Associates. Anybody have any experience with them? (I'm nearest the one on 466 near Rolling Acres, but would consider any office.) |
We use Lange eye and are very satisfied, but as mentioned above, shop around for glass they are expensive.
|
I have gone to Ocala Eye, as they accept my Aetna Insurance. In regard to glasses, I also suggest either Peepers in Colony or Hindsight in Pinellas Plaza.

I felt extremely rushed at Peepers. To the point that I question the accuracy of the exam, although it seems to be ok. I went to BJ's for the glasses, but did not have a good experience. There is virtually no peripheral vision in the lenses I got there, and they refused to send them back to the lab to be rechecked. They kept wanting to adjust the frame, despite me telling them that vision through a narrow area was fine, but everything was blurry if I moved my head even slightly. I was reading on line that Costco offers the latest in High Definition eyeglass lenses and they (Costco) got a very favorable rating. More money than BJ's, but I think the clarity from this new technology will prove to be worth the additional money. Intersting read on HD lenses at allaboutvision.com

I recommend Beacon Eye Care in Spanish Springs. Old fashion person to person Optometrist. Diagnosed glaucoma missed by one of the larger offices.
|
I Love Lake eye Care and Dr. Scott Holman
|
I go to Dr. Kathy Ireland at St Luke's in Lake Sumter. They have the latest testing equipment. I had one prescription at Peepers (so so) and one at WalMart on 466 and they were excellent.
|
Love Beacon but my insurance won't cover them. :cryin2:
|
Ocala Eye is terrific. I wear semi-permeable contacts and see both an ophthalmologist and a contact lens specialist. I've been using them for three years and am very happy. It's a busy office, but they try to be as on time as possible. The staff is very pleasant.

Okay, I have an appointment with Dr. Gutti at Lake Eye.
I still welcome comments/experiences. Thanks for all your input. |
Do not go to Lake Eye Associates!

Why? |
I highly Recommend Lange Eye Care, Dr Lange is great and I especially have great faith regarding contact lens. I wear daily lens that are mono vision and he takes great care in achieving perfect balance.
|
I know exactly how you feel so here is my recommendation; Peepers in Colony Plaza. Dr. Paul Collins. Tel. 352-259-1621...he also has a location in Traverse Plaza: Called " eyeSite " the phone number: 352-674-3937. Most insurances taken, same day service, staff are terrific !

Wife went to Lake Eye and all was fine with the exam and we ordered glasses there too. Though everyone was nice they never were able to get the glasses made correctly. After third try they did give us a refund.
Wife requires Crizal high impact progressives and they tried but could not get it right. Think their brand was similar but not the same. Went to Ocala Eye near Laurel Manor and ordered the glasses and all has been fine, Even ordered sunglasses too. |
Eye exam at Walmart
We had a very good experience with Dr. Orr at Walmart on 466 today. Very busy there, but she is great! We have no eye issues beyond needing updated prescriptions.
|
Peepers Colony Plaza...You will not be disappointed tel: 352-259-1621

Another vote for Dr. Scott Holman, Lake Eye
|
Another vote for Dr. Ram. He was recommended by our ophthalmologist in NJ. Have been seeing him for7 years and am very pleased.

I have been going to Ocala Eye, seeing Dr. Jodie Armstrong, for three years. I sought an ophthalmologist because I knew I was of an age when cataracts need to be monitored more closely. They did not urge surgery at all.
I had surgery last fall and highly recommend Dr. Armstrong and Ocala Eye. It is golf cart accessible in the area just adjacent to Laurel Manor Rec center on 466. |
I go Mid Florida eye specialists with Dr. Ray Maizel.
Very good eye care and an excellent staff. I am never kept waiting. |
My wife and I have been going to Mid Florida Eye Center for several years now and never had a problem. Everybody there is great. Dr Pieschke is the eye dr.
|
Lake Eye
I have gone to Dr. Vocci a couple of times now and my experience is you always have to wait and only see the eye Dr for a couple of minutes. His assistant does the majority of the exam and he just comes in to give you a quick look. I am sure he is good but hate the wait and the feeling rushed. I am looking for a good deal on getting new glasses? I belong to Sam's so may try there.

Has anyone had cataracts removed at St. Lukes on Old camp Road?
|
Thank you!

Everything at St. Lukes is excellent. In fact I think they have to take a "nice" test to work there. |
I just went to Dr Collins at Eyestite, 2909 Traverse Trail near Brownwood... He was very excellent and personable.
