Rotating Movies @ the Theaters

Wish the powers that be would rotate the movies between the 3 theaters in the squares.

Would love to see a movie but if its in the Rialto-we won't go

When I finish with a movie we like to go to a restaurant & there is not a restaurant in Spanish Springs-that we would go to.

Lake Sumter & Brownwood has a few that we like-but Spanish Springs has zero

Bogie Shooter 01-18-2016 03:51 PM

Have you talked to the powers to be?

The Rialto usually gets the independent movies. The others seldom get these non-main stream movies. You can talk to the people at these theaters on their respective Facebook pages.

Chatbrat 01-18-2016 04:13 PM

Wow didn't know the Revenant was an independent movie

Waverunner 01-18-2016 05:35 PM

What a great idea! We live near Brownwood and many of the movies we would like to see are at the Rialto. It does make us make different choices.

This would also make a good Villages survey suggestion.

CFrance 01-18-2016 05:42 PM

I was never a math person, but wouldn't that lessen the total number of movies available to be shown?

John_W 01-18-2016 05:55 PM

About a year ago when "Gone Girl" came out, they stuck it SS. They were running commercials for the film on TV non-stop, when you walked into Barnes & Nobles they had stacks of the book all over the place and the actors were making the rounds at all the talk shows and morning shows. I emailed the theater using the email on their website saying just this. They responded that same day saying they make deals with studios way in advance of the release date and they put a lot of thought into where they place the films.

We waited until the second week before going and went at 2pm in the afternoon, guess what, the line for that film was out to the door at Rialto. The film ended up taking in $167 million in the U.S. When it's at SS we usually wait until a band that we like is playing, which are Uncle Bob, Rocky & the Rollers or Petrina, then go to a 2:00 showing and maybe get something to eat at Panera's and then see the band.

New Regency Pictures [us]

Not sure if it is. Maybe they did not know how well it would do?

:agree::agree::agree: We've missed 2 movies we wanted to see because it was only playing at Rialto. My complaint about Rialto is too far north for me and I want stadium seating which this theater is the only one that isn't.

tomwed 01-18-2016 06:27 PM

It's 10 miles from the Rialto to the Barnstorm. Doesn't everyone have a car?

Common sense is a flower that does not grow in everyone's garden.

capecoralbill 01-18-2016 07:10 PM

Seriously no stadium seating??? Thanks for the "heads up" pun intended.

claricecolin 01-18-2016 07:16 PM

The no stadium seating is what I dislike. However, the movies I have been wanting to see are there so that's where I have to go.

I agree, we can't go to any movies at Rialto because the handicapped seating is all the way in the back of the theater.

Which is not to say that the floor is flat. It's isn't; it's sloped upward, front to back. I think there's more legroom between rows than at Brownwood, and I've never had a problem seeing the screen.

That's not right. How can we make it right?

I agree, some of these posts imply that it is an all day trek to go from one square to another.
Do not see any benefit to the theater rotating films to locations within this distance.
Miss a film because it was showing to far north? Wow!

It seems to be right inside the entrance doors. This does put you at the back of the theater. You would have to sit quite close to the screen if handicapped at the Old Mill Playhouse and the Barnstorm Theater.

I would expect some people would rather sit father away there and some would rather sit closer at the Rialto.

I always chuckle when people talk about how far from one square to another.
When we lived in Michigan and our girls wanted to go to the movies especially in the winter, I hated it. Drive 8 miles on major busy icy roads.
Now here it's all nice little side roads & no ice. I think I can handle the drive. ;)

Spent two to three hours in a snowbank outside of Laramie, Wyoming the New Year's Eve of 1983. This was due to black ice. The tow trucks were quite busy that evening. I did get to my reservations at a hotel in Laramie where I watched Porky's 2: The Next Day. Porky's II: The Next Day (1983) - Rotten Tomatoes

You're bringing back memories, Bonnie!

I'm flummoxed when people say Point A to Point B in The Villages is too far. Or that they won't go somewhere because it isn't golf cart accessible.

it can't be changed because the Rialto was built a long time ago, before considering the needs of wheelchair users. Plus they probably realize that the seating at Sumter and Barnstormer are accessible.

I disagree with you. Our church in Michigan was built in 1960 and modified in 2000 to provide more (and larger) handicapped seating. It just takes someone willing to spend a little $.

I was thinking the same thing.......how can anything in TV be too far? I am not in favor of rotating movies, as a previous poster said, it would cut down on the number of films available.

There are seats designed for wheel chair users at every one of the theaters at the Rialto. They are near the entrance of each theater. If you want to sit right up front though and are in a wheel chair, then that is a problem. But, if you want to sit in the very back way up high you cannot do that at the Barnstorm nor at the Old Mill Playhouse.

Taltarzac725 01-19-2016 12:47 PM

I do wish that The Revenant was playing at more than one theater in the Villages. This is the movie getting the most Oscar nominations and should be more available for people to see.

You are correct. We have a friend who is the VP of distribution at Sony. Movies are contracted out far in advance and it's not totally up to the theater which movies they get to show.

The management at the Old Mill Playhouse have mentioned this during their film festivals.

LuckySevens 01-19-2016 02:21 PM

I also do not like the Rialto seating or going that far to see a movie. Yes, I have a car, but I find it odd that the Sumter and Brownwood theatres do not get some of the movies shown at S.S. Why not let us on the south end see them at the theatres closest to us. Just common sense!

I see your point.
I guess whenever I hear there is not enough handicap parking or something isn't wheelchair accessible I think it can be corrected around here.

Well to be honest with you, I thought awhile before I typed it. Sometimes I think I'm saying something innocent or harmless and the next thing I know I got "12 Angry Men" on my back.

Read the whole thread as I haven't been on for a while. Interesting how this one transitioned as many do. But BS> your comment hit me as a soft hit below the belt.

"That far???"

Far for one may be sensed completely different for another. The poster may not like to drive out of their local area, be handicapped, challenged in other ways. Simply stated the personal issue of distance. IMO your response was a bit...low.

Man I must be maturing a bit; starting to see other people's side. When did THAT start...

Madelaine Amee 01-20-2016 07:13 AM

I should not get involved with this, I know I should not, but I am going to.....

I am constantly amazed at the number of people who find a reason to complain about almost everything here in TV. We have three excellent movie theaters, they are all clean, the seats are comfortable and they all have a good concession stand. Where I came from the theaters were filthy, they were cleaned maybe once a day if we were lucky, there were teenagers and young children at viewings. The teenagers would throw stuff around and be a pain in the neck, and the young children would talk loudly and be a pain in the neck.

I would like to add that although the handicapped seating is situated in the very back of the theater in SS, the theaters are not exactly huge and if you have trouble seeing from that distance you might be better off renting the movie and watching it from home. Also, if you cruise, you will notice that the handicapped seating is way in the back of the theater.

I, for one, am more than happy with what we have here. I go wherever the movie is showing.

I go to all the Villages' theaters and they would be my first choice before traveling to Leesburg or Ocala or Belleview to see something in one of these other community's movie houses.

I can understand your position, because you can probably see that far. sometimes my son does like to go to the movies just for some time out of the house. He spends a lot of time at home watching DVD's at home.

We do go on cruises and there is seating for the visually impaired at the front of the theaters. We have taken him to shows in Chicago and I requested front row seats for him there too. I will just go to the movie theaters at Sumter Landing and Brownwood.
