Golf and cold?
 

Hi - Are the courses ever closed because of cold? Thanks

I believe they are closed if there is frost, especially on the greens. If you have a morning tee time and there is frost, you lose that tee time, they just continue with the schedule as is starting with the first time after the frost has melted. They don't push everyone back because the late tee times would run into darkness

Frost on the greens delayed play earlier this week.

Delayed? Or cancelled those tee times? If not crowded I'll bet they try to work those times back in

Weather Delays on the Executive Golf Trail

Unfortunately we are not able to recover tee times lost due to weather delays such as fog, rain, or frost. However, we do make every effort to get golfers on the course (where possible) when conditions permit. In the case of a frost delay, we will begin tee times at the time when the frost delay is lifted.

Frost Delays
In the event of frost, the golf course will be closed
until such time that play will not injure the grass
as determined by the golf course superintendent.
All tee times prior to the opening time
will be forfeited.
The golf course staff will make every effort to
accommodate all players in an effort that will not
cause later tee times to be affected.
This may not be possible in all instances.
If your tee time is cancelled and you are unable to
be accommodated or forward started, you will not
be assessed a reservation point.

striveforhealth: The information you are receiving as to frost delays is correct as to a response frost, possibly fog will delay play until either has passed.

However as to your question are they closed because of cold requires a different response. If it is deemed by golf admin to be too cold to play, a marquee message appears on the tee time computer reservation system, on VNN or 640 AM radio station announcing it is a one point day meaning a gofer can cancel play and receive only one point the announcement usually appears on or about 7:00 AM of the morning of play.

I think the Championships will move everyone delayed in the 1st wave up to the hole they are supposed to be on at the time the frost delay ends and those delayed and moved are given 9 hole rainchecks.

Where is this raincheck policy written?

I don't know if the CCs do this or not. I do think it sounds like a nightmare in the making. I would be interested in hearing from Country Club staff about this.

I don't know the rain check policy but have never been refused one for any reason -- not that I abuse the privilege. During a cold snap last January, my foursome had had enough after four holes. No problem. Got a rain check for all 18. Another time, my back went out after a few holes. I asked for a "pain check" and again got a credit for 18 holes. I've always found the clubs to be quite accommodating.

Hi golfing eagle: Next to losing a free day of golf because of cold weather the other annoyance for me is paying good money to golf and then playing poorly.....which is often:D I love golf I just wish it love me back.

Stay warm and I guess we should have given our move more thought and moved to Florida. spoke with my daughter who lives in Mount Kisco and while they received some snow not as bad as NYC, Washington ,etc Snow don't even like to see it on television anymore

Me also. But I'm a fair-weather golfer - I only golf for the fresh air and sunshine. I'm totally inept and getting worse every year. Sigh.

I take that back. There are groups on both 5 & 6 of Egret and the group on 5 has been waiting!

I played Hibiscus/Jacaranda this morning; started at 7:28, finished at 10:20. With the mist early this morning, it was a little brisk.

Not really. I actually retired about 13 years ago at age 50; I took about a year off, played a bunch of golf and then went to work for ADT in sales for 5 years; took another year off, played a lot more golf and then got into golf at Golf Galaxy in metro STL 6 years ago; about 3 years ago, my wife transferred to KC and there's where I managed the 2 courses. There - my last 13 years of life history; I don't like sitting around.

That is a heluva resume. You are in a good place now to relax and enjoy.

Relax?!?!?! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! My neighbors ask me when I'm going to start relaxing, I'm making the neighborhood men look bad. :icon_wink: I tell them when I die I'll relax. When I'm not working the afternoons of Wednesday's, Thursday's and Sunday's, I'm working in my yard or golfing. My wife, on the other hand, when she retired after 34 yrs. as a LEO, she retired. :laugh::laugh:

Back to the cold and golf. I felt like I owned the course today; I didn't see any others in the 18 holes I played.

That's truly amazing that people were playing Egret today and even backed up! I wore my down-filled jacked with a hood to the dog park. :cold: Somehow Florida cold seems colder than Canadian cold. :loco: Even I can tell that sounds loco.

I played 18 holes at Glenview yesterday, we had the course to ourselves, it wasn't that bad once you got going ........ Don't get me wrong I am looking forward to it being a bit warmer today as we are playing Lopez, looking at the weather forecast we will probably have that to ourselves!

I did not see I mentioned but you can go to Golf The Villages and look at Weather Events to see if there is a delay on the courses.

We had a frost delay on El Santiago and got 0 points because of the frost delay.

I wouldn't exactly say they were backed up. I have a pretty good view of everything on Egret from the 2nd tee to the 8th green, and only saw those two groups. I just found it funny that the 2nd group was being held up. The worst times to be standing waiting to hit is in bad weather, when it's getting dark, when you're playing real well, or when you're playing real bad! The way I look at it down here, is that there are potentially 365 days I can play, and yesterday was definitely not on the list. I've had my fill of days like yesterday up north, where the potential playing days were more like 150. No hill, but I have essentially a 180 degree panoramic view of Egret, which is pretty flat so I can see if there are golfers 3/4 mile away. As far as golf match goes, I have one word-----CHICKEN, cluck, cluck, cluck:1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl: As far as lobster goes, 4 words---pay up, YOU LOST!!!!:mmmm::mmmm::mmmm:

Barefoot I've been saying that for years. I've boarded planes in Florida with temps in the 50s and landed in NY with temps in the 30s and I felt warmer in NY.

On a forward start any group not starting on 1st hole is given a 9 hole rain check.Most clubs have a chart as to where each group will start when course is clear enough for play.Starters report to golf shop as to who are entitled to a rain check.
