Gates are a joke
Specifically the gate at Canal and Stillwater. Hasn't worked for two weeks or there about. They got it going the other day and a hour later it wasn't. Working today but we will see how long that will be. What a waste of money.Does our amenity fee pay for that. If not then where else would the money come from.

I think your annual maintenance fee pays for that.

So far you haven't convinced me that gates are a joke. |
GATES! What are they good for?............
The gates control traffic.
At least in my neck of the woods, that's what the gates do. Without the gates, there would be even more accidents involving golf carts. I like the gates. |

Catholics pay for the gates. There is a collection plate every Sunday and I'm pretty sure it's to pay for the broken gates.
|
Every topic is a joke...and I use that term very loosely.
Another vote FOR the gates. |

Gate repair is only costing a little more than the stopped striping plan. The cost is about 1/2 million per year paid for by someone.

Gate threads are showing up nearly as often as dog poop threads.
If you got a bitch about the gates, do a search on gates and read all of the opinions you can stand. End of rant................. |

I don't believe the gates are a joke. I believe we have too many jokers playing jokes with the gates.
As Bogie aptly pointed out this topic is as common as the ones on dog poop. The gates and their attendant serve the community well. The public roads and the virtual size of this community make it impractical to have a bona fide gated community. However the gates still help control traffic and the elaborate camera system assists an added security measure. i often utilize the Morse gate and it would just be maddening without the gates. In Minneapolis they use metered lanes and they serve well in merging traffic onto the interstate system;otherwise there would be backups from those drivers that believe they are always entitled to go first. |

Make the gate out of a very light Downspout, 10 ft., 2x3 In. Cut the Downspout at about 2 feet and attach a 6" strap hinge to the 3" side so that it can can open and close horizontally. Velcro will keep it closed. I would fill the Downspout with Spray Foam Insulation. It should still weigh in at under 2 pounds. The gate goes up and down so nothing needs to be changed from what we have now. The big difference is that if you go through the gate before it opens, at impact, without breaking anything the gate will swing forward. [The only other change is to set up the gate motor to turn off after impact and turn on again after the gate is put back in place. I can do that with a magnet or mercury switch] |

I don't know for sure but since you asked me I'm going to say that the attendants are in the most common areas and also serve as helpers in case you get lost or have a question. When I first moved down here I used them a lot for directions to the execs. [and the first few days I was down here I would push the red button and when the squawk box said"Welcome to the Villages" I would introduce myself and tell the box my where I was going] |

Probably, but not Italian Catholics, bless their hearts. |
I guess you folks took my comment the wrong way. When I said they were a joke I meant that they can't keep them working.I see they are working on the one at Canal and Stillwater this morning. AGAIN Need to get a better system. No I dont sell security gates. And how did you throw religion in on this.

NJbchbm, from my understanding, everyone pays a maintenance fee, but in some areas it is not separated out on the tax bill. When our new neighbors moved in from a CYV in a different area, they went ballistic upon seeing a maintenance fee on their tax bill. The lady called Sumter Cty and was told everyone pays one. Sumter lists theirs as such. |
Count your blessings. The gates could be stuck closed instead of open.

Just to lighten up a topic that seems to be a little over the top. As for religion, I R an Italian Protestant- just so I won't be accused of anything discriminatory. |
