Setting chairs up early
 

I was looking on line at SS square at 7:45 this morning and to my surprise there was, and still is as I type this, a man who has set up many chairs along the sidewalk for optimal viewing. Is someone going to stay with those chairs all day until the parade? I'm also surprised that he allowed to do that. I Would think that with all of the pedestrians walking around there for the festivities throughout the day the chairs would be a hazard. It made me laugh at the lengths that people will go to make sure they are first and get the best.

Call someone in authority and ask them to remove those chairs.

There's a lot of sense of entitlement and the I'm going to do whatever I want to do attitude running rampant throughout The Villages. There is currently no known cure. :ohdear:

Maybe the people don't realize you are not supposed to save seats. A few signs would seem to help this situation a lot.

put as few signs up as possible and expect people to act using common sense. Therefore you likely will not see signs prohibiting this practice.

I agree with the first response...call the VCDD and ask what can/should be done.

Are the chairs from the square or their chairs? How do they think they will remain not used.:ohdear:

It was probably someone who can now afford any and all things.

That's the way we set up for a parade in New Orleans! Some people set up days in advance but the camp out with their chairs, sofas, BBQ pits, etc.

I think it's easier to accept some people's sense of entitlement that to get upset over it, as some things will never change. These selfish jerks will never see the errors of their ways.

Some people need to realize there are other people in the world, besides themselves. :smiley:

If you don't like something, report it to the powers-that-be

No-one else is going to do that for you just because you start a thread here

And if no-one officially complains then nothing will get done, and you'll be upset by it when it happens again - which it will

LOL - Folks have been setting up for parades like that for years here - and in many other communities where we have attended parades, too! Have you never seen the campers on television who arrive days before the Rose Bowl parade? The chairs are at the edge of the sidewalk with plenty of room for pedestrians behind them. And pedestrians should not be attempting to cross the street along that stretch since there are no crosswalks there for that purpose.


Check out the picture - doesn't look like there are but 4 'squares chairs' among the 30+ that have been put out. So it does not appear that anyone is saving seats for anything but a personal use. Perhaps you can just complain that the man is saving spaces.

If there are no rules (signs posted) against taking your own chairs and setting them up in advance of a parade, why encourage vandalism on someone's personal property? If meant as a cute statement, it wasn't!

I have never seen signs prohibiting setting up personal chairs in advance of a Villages parade. You could do it, too! It is not the "sense of entitlement" - it is the gumption to get out early and do it!

Wasn't complaining....just stating what I saw. I never go to these events so doesn't effect me not one little bit. I just couldn't believe that someone would go approximately 8+ hours ahead of time to set up chairs and prior to the performance and they either wouldn't be removed it stolen. It appeared to be a few chairs from the square and the rest bag chairs. There no need to mock those with an opinion Cwguy. Last I knew everyone had the freedom of speech. It never fails but when people post things on here be it good, bad or indifferent there's people like you who have to attack. Your comments is what makes others not want to be a part of this forum.

In the Villages? How about the whole country.

Just put some signs on the chairs. "Free chairs, take all you want".

I think it is a human trait.
Not limited to the folks of Spanish Springs.
It is done by millions everyday where people want to get a good spot, a good deal, beat the crowd, a space on the curb at the parade a spot on the grass to see the fireworks and on and on and on.

Some how it all works out.....and the crowds get bigger every year....

I think as we get old(er) some get a little crankier.....it is not like these "function/entertainment preppers" take up all the space.......it is just annoying.....and just as easy to ignore and enjoy with the rest of the crowd.

There ya go. Problem solved.

I'm not aware of any law against it either.
But I wouldn't bother to do it, but we're all different aren't we,
and that Kind of makes TV interesting doesn't it?

Ya know that some folks really like holiday parades, movie premiers, big after holiday store sales and in some cities the people camp out for days just for them.

As long as no prohibition is being broken, I say to just let them do it!

I call it "The Privileged/Entitled". It is really prevalent on all the golf courses (both executive and championship); people are either too privileged/entitled (or maybe too damn lazy) to fix balls marks, sand divots or rake bunkers. C'mon people, think of all the golfers playing behind you and fix your marks, divots and footprints; try caring for the courses.

Isn't it about time we stopped these silly parades and holiday celebrations in the squares?

It's absolutely horrible for anyone who is trying to get somewhere or shop in the areas near the town squares. We went to a few when we first moved here but gave up when we had to wait in line forever to get crappy food and then eat sitting on the sidewalk because of the ignorant people who get there early and plop themselves down at the table that are meant for food service customers. People stay in those chairs for the entire day. The people running the food really need to police the eating areas.

I had an awful experience today just trying to get to Publix. Then I had to park a quarter of a mile away.

There will be plenty of people on the squares at five o'clock on holidays. The vendors will do fine without this silliness. In fact with the food trucks and booths I wonder if the restaurants lose some business.

I like parades when I was a little kid. Not so much any more.

Lol I fixed five ball marks today and I never hit the green.....I had an ambassador tell me a woman didn't rake the trap and when he told her toremember to rake she told him she lived in a premier and therefore she didn't have to

Now that you mentioned it, I don't recall any language in my closing documents requiring residents to rake bunkers....

There was an up roar when the parades stopped, I don't think there are as many as years past. If there is something going on at the square we just go elsewhere.

Most people don't go to the parades any more, it's too crowded.

He could very well be fired for saying that. I am pretty sure they are told to comment on the weather and that is about it. I did talk to one, one time who was a Michigan fan but I graciously didn't report him.


Actually I am kidding about the Michigan fan part, many took me seriously yesterday when I was having some fun with someone who views himself a gourmet.


I have NEVER had any of the Ambassadors say anything about another golfer or in any way anything that could raise eyebrows. They aren't allowed to be tough. If someone complains about them, they are gone.


I wish they could speed up slow play and I wish all new golfers took the course on golf manners and info offered for free.

I assume your rant was "tongue in cheek". If not, I suggest we also get rid of 60's music, especially Beatles. Too loud, hurts my ears, bad words, and too many accents.:)

It you check with the GENERAL MANAGEMENT OF THE VILLAGES in all DEPARTMENTS... they will tell you unless a formal complaint is made to the respective departments.. they will not enforce the rules of The Villages.. e.g.. neighborhood ornaments etc... this goes for the chairs also... almost everything per the "RESIDENT ACADEMY CLASSES" You are not required to give your name as a complainant in person or written letters.. just make the formal complaint. If you do give your name the other party is entitled to that information... They said as a general procedure of day to day operations they will not go out and look for violations of any kind.. this mostly includes the Community Watch... they will check it out if complaints are made... SO DO YOUR PART AND KEEP THE VILLAGES IN ORDER.. thats what most of us moved here expecting I am sure..

When we first arrived here in the Villages there was the thrill of a new retired life style. The reality is the place is over crowded and the traffic can rival a big city. This has dulled the shine somewhat.

You cannot be serious. Makes me wonder what "big city" you could possibly be referring to.

Whenever I read people complaining about traffic problems here, I laugh. Coming from Northern Virginia and the beltway traffic, this place is a cakewalk. Unless you moved from Mayberry, traffic here is nothing.

It honestly crossed my mind...on my previous post...to suggest that those who think traffic here is bad here should consider relocating to Mayberry or Petticoat Junction. :)

He wasn't on duty at the time and I would never rat out a neighbor.....
