Michelle Obama's inauguration gown.

Typically the new first lady chooses a "flag color". I think she would look lovely in white with her dark complexion. What is your pick for her and her little girls? Just fun to guess.

Peachie 12-08-2008 09:57 AM

My guess is a red dress, Gracie. I remember Oprah discussing on her program that people with African American complexions were discouraged from wearing white for TV shots or photo opps and that white doesn't flatter them in those venues. But this is a new day and perhaps Michelle isn't concerned and Oprah has challenged that premise by wearing white also in those settings.

The Great Fumar 12-09-2008 10:34 PM

Oprah will now probably recommend something in a simple drapery pattern that doesn't tie at the waist now that she weighs 200 lbs....Oprah that is !!!

chelsea24 12-09-2008 10:51 PM

Curious?

Fumar, just wondering why you keep coming into the Feminine Forum? Is there something you're not revealing to us??? :icon_wink:

graciegirl 12-10-2008 07:16 AM

I think that Michelle Obama will look arresting and dramatic, but although attractive she is not beautiful in the classical sense. Her smile is dazzling and she is tall and she has chosen understated items for her wardrobe which earns her praise from me. I don't think ANYONE will ever have that certain quality that Jackie Kennedy had in her wardrobe choices, but we will wait and see.

The attendants in my wedding wore Jackie Kennedy "Pillbox hats" to match their gowns. I was so pleased with how they looked.

chelsea24 12-10-2008 09:44 AM

hmmmm...

GG, maybe Fumar would like to comment on this. He appears to be the Feminine Forums Fashioneesta! LOL

dfn8tly 12-10-2008 11:13 AM

I rise to Fumar's defense!

Just because we are men, or perhaps because we are men, we certainly recognize the Mrs. Obama is a strikingly attractive lady. She has an elegance and fine carriage that displays her confidence and personal pride. Men admire that! She's no Jackie Kennedy but she is her own person and will make a lovely, intelligent First Lady of whom we can be proud no matter what color her dress.

So there, Fumar. (You can PM me on where to send the $20).

redwitch 12-16-2008 08:36 PM

I'm trying to remember if she's ever worn a pale yellow. For some reason, I think that would be a good color on her. But my gut says she'll wear something on the dark side. She's been seen in red and will probably be in red for Christmas, so I doubt that it will be red for January. Whatever, I'm sure it will be beautiful and look elegant on the woman. She does have taste.

Gracie Girl--If this is the kind of dribble that YOU worry about in life, when the world and U.S. has much bigger problems. God help you. Get a life and worry about real things that matter.

A former Navy CO.

I have a feeling someone, could it be Cuey or whatever the handle, is getting into the forum and trying to wreak havoc. We have another post today that makes one wonder.....

Tony. We have a Troll!

samhass 12-23-2008 10:34 AM

Navy CO has no idea what Gracie may have worried about in her lifetime. A little frivolity at Christmas and during these bleak financial times is not the worst thing someone could post. If indeed you are a former Naval Commanding Officer, I would expect more gallantry than you have displayed with your post. You know..the old "Officer and a Gentleman" thing.

Sam, I seriously question the legitimacy of this poster... it's their very first post, it's derogatory and states the poster is a "former Naval Commanding Officer". That's kind of a red flag right there. This also may be an attempt to disparage the Navy. Naval Officers, particularly Commanding Officers are deemed to have immense integrity and character.... this post is very questionable. It may be from a noncom from another branch of the services or someone whom has never served a day. It may be legit, but highly doubtful. Perhaps Scrooge is at work....

redwitch 12-23-2008 12:21 PM

Another vote for the NavyCO being a total fraud. Sounds like someone is jealous because YOU can think about fun, frivolous things with all the junk going on around us.

Just Susan 12-23-2008 03:15 PM

The remark was uncalled for, no matter how you look at it...it was rude.

What I want to know is........

WHY ARE MEN READING AND POSTING ON THE FEMININE FORUM???

OUT, OUT, EVERY ONE OF YOU, SHOO!!!

Susan, that is one of the difficulties in managing a forum, I would imagine. Without signing up face to face with a forum administrator we have no clue if this poster is male or female. There are known to be trolls of either sex. On the other hand, it could be a former disgruntled poster under a new identity rather than a new disgruntled poster, lol.

Just Susan 12-23-2008 03:47 PM

Hi Peachie,
I agree the identity of NavyCo is unknown, but we know the other two males.

I also agree it is hard to manage a Forum this size and that trolls and other undesireables can easily temporarily join this Forum. I think though with the help of the members, the Admin does a pretty good job keeping up with them.

I wonder sometimes at the guidelines used but ...

Anyway I think Michelle Obama should wear winter white. I think that color will make her look the most elegant...the most like a First Lady of a great land.

Men are reading and posting to new posts, not necessarily to the fem forum.

With the new system the latest posts are at the bottom of the open page and do not list what forum they are from.

renielarson 12-23-2008 10:37 PM

Aside from who posts and who doesn't (women vs. men) I have something to say.

Fashion industry is driven by demand. Demand is determined by what women do or do not like. Michelle Obama plays a pivotal role in this decision, as Jacque Kennedy did. Our styles are a mirror image of celebrities, like it or not.

I do not find this a trivial subject. Our economy is based on consumerism and women buying clothes (or getting new hair styles) are important aspects of boosting our economy.

Perhaps you don't think this is an important issue, but in my opinion, anything that boosts the economy is crucial at this point...no matter how trivial you might think it is.

Just Susan 12-23-2008 11:27 PM

You know what Chuck I absolutely agree with you. I have found myself drawn to posts that have been in threads I don't usually go to also.

So just curious what part of the title "Michelle Obama's Inauguration gown" attracted you guys to this thread? ;)

Cassie325 12-23-2008 11:37 PM

I'm sorry but no Navy CO would be this rude. I particularly love the Navy as two of my favorite cousins served in it. You dishonor them. Keep your opinions to yourself. You know nothing at all about Gracie. And guess what! This is a very interesting subject to many women. As stated before, why are you even in this forum???

Oh I see, don't ask don't tell! Keep movin' swabbie.

renielarson 12-24-2008 07:06 PM

I'm sitting here quite bewildered why NavyCo's post wasn't deleted. It was a nasty, rude response to a very kind lady's opinion.

Why am I bewildered? In my opinion, if that post had been written by me, the administrators would have deleted it immediately....just as I'm sure this post will be. If you are one who reads this quickly...watch and see. It will be gone in a matter of time.

Administrators?....what criteria do you use to determine what posts you will let slide by here and what posts you won't?

I think you need to develop a rubric so all is fair and there is no subjective ruling. Subjective ruling lends itself to favoritism....which is recognized.

I agree, Bright, and I wonder if anyone is watching the store... between this post and the Eve post, (which makes TOTV appear as though they pander for desperate men), being left untouched, it is a puzzle. Maybe they are garnering a lot of hits, what's up admins?

Those who enjoy this board so much are "of an age" so to speak. And I am willing to bet that there is not one among us who has not experienced great sadness somewhere along the way. And unless we are complete idiots, we cannot help but have deep disquiet for the direction of our country and the direction of our world.

But to come in here and take us to task for enjoying a little fun is not the right thing to do. A little lightness can be a lovely thing. Even if it cannot completely deliver us from those things that can seem overwhelming at times, we still need need to find a little fun.

I certainly hope that this board does not take the direction of those who try to make themselves feel better by trying to make others feel worse.

Navy CO, I hope you will rethink us and join us for some fun along this so often difficult way. Sometimes a light little topic can be just what we need for a few minutes.

Peace.

Boomer

NavyCo...I just visited your profile, and under Friends it says "has not made any"....I understand why.
One lesson I have learned in life is.....it is never okay to be rude, and if you are rude in an impulsive moment....apologize.

It was near the top of the recent posts and I was viewing most of those new posts. Not that it was an attraction, more that it wasn't obviously something that had no interest. And it was listed like this: Michelle Obama's..., so who's to know it was about her choice of dress for the inauguration.

.

Just Susan 12-25-2008 11:27 PM

And you came back this time because???? I am laughing Chuck. I think you read this Forum all the time out of curiosity.;)

Cold out there in the Eastbay this week, isn't it?

I think the new first lady would be striking in pale pink.

As far as posts by Eve and NavyCo ... some people's comments are really best ignored.

Susan:

You don't get it - I am not in the Fem Forum; if you scroll down from an open post (in any forum) you will see a listing of the latest posts on TOTV. That's where I open this thread.

I have zero interest in lurking thru the ladies area.

Yes, the weather in Norcal has been on the chilly side, maybe about hi's of low 60's and lows of mid 40's. Rainy and lots of snow in the Sierra's - which we are in need of.

redwitch 12-26-2008 06:37 AM

I'm going to defend Eve. She was a single's forum related strictly to TV. She thought she might have a chance to find what she was looking for. She wasn't rude about it, she said she figured out she was in the wrong spot, so I'd say let it go.

As to NavyCO, if he was a former CO of anything but the latrines I'd be seriously surprised. I've met many officers in all branches and never have I met one that rude. I've met some that were arrogant to the hilt. Some that thought they should command everyone and thing they came in contact with, but never one that tried by command by rudeness. They left to the tops so that they could gain the loyalty of their men, be their father confessor so to speak.

Okay last comment by me cause I really don't care that much if you visit this forum, I am teasing you. But you are returning to the Feminine Forum each time you post here.

If you scroll up to the top of this page, you will see this:
Talk of The Villages > Talk of the Villages Forums > Feminine Forum > Michelle Obama's inauguration gown.

If you scroll to the bottom as you have noted...all new posts, from all the forums are listed. There is no indication of which Forum they are from, that is where you are getting caught. It is how I have been caught as well.

Enjoy NorCal. Wish we were back there right now. Gotta go visit family soon.

Barefoot 12-27-2008 08:07 PM

The gossip magazines are saying the gown will be red with one shoulder bare.
Should be striking.

Fumar, feel free to wade in here .....

Just Susan 12-27-2008 08:09 PM

Bare do you want Fu to comment or try on the dress? Now that's a visual.

renielarson 12-27-2008 09:14 PM

Chels can be Fumar's personal fashion assistant to ensure the dress is tailored and flatters his figure.

Oh, Susan! I am laughing so hard because I can envision Fumar's face on your swishing and swaying avatar....:1rotfl:

Johnny, were are you?
