Do you think TV would be better...
Given the crime stats for adult children living with villagers, let me just throw this thought out. I have no idea if it would be legal or not....
What if instead of 19, a person had to be 40 to reside in TV? Of course there could be exceptions made for handicapped adult children who cannot live on their own... Do you think that would make TV better? Cut out some of the crimes related to drug addiction? Just looking for opinions, not stating one. |
There have been plenty over 40 who make the headlines.
This sound something like what I have been hearing on the news.................. |

But I will clarify that more of the sex offenders living in TV are older. |
They should make the villages a retirement community, 55 and over. I think it's an idea that may take off.

Home / Resources / 55+ Housing / Requirements
Requirements Federal Register 24 CFR Part 100; section 760.24-760.37 (4a), Florida Statutes For a community to be considered "housing for older persons" as a 55+ community, the housing must be intended and operated for occupancy by persons 55 years of age or older and meet the following requirements: At least 80% of the occupied units are occupied by at least one person 55 years of age or older. The facility or community publishes and adheres to policies and procedures that demonstrate its intent to in fact be a provider of housing for older persons. The facility or community complies with rules established by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for verification of occupancy. |
How about comparing the arrest records of other cities the size of TV?
Then there would be a basis for discussion. The villages dot com amateur hour is not a credible source. |

and enforces the law? |
I think TV would be better without taking a handful of police blotter reports and stereotyping 119,000 people as "guilty" of housing deadbeat offspring, just because the front page of that "other online newspaper" puts mug shots on the front page, above the fold.
Right now, these (below) are the front page headlines appearing BEFORE a story on The Villages HONOR FLIGHT. That paper loves to put this skanky stuff before decent, honorable citizen stories here....... 61-year-old Villager arrested after fight with wife over phone Man with Oxycodone, crowbar arrested after attempted burglary in The Villages In wake of attempted burglary in Village of Amelia, sheriff’s office issues tips to stay safe Woman arrested after kicking another woman out of bed in fight over missed call Woman arrested after fight with boyfriend at The Quarters Apartments Villages Honor Flight returning to the skies with first flight of 2016 |

Sane answer. As usual. |
Apparently you did not notice that the Honor Flight story was posted on March 27th while the items you highlighted were posted March 28th. So the Honor Flight story has now had two days of publication.

As Beachbum said, the Honor Flight story ran for two days.
It's good that the online newspaper is by subscription only. We can opt out at any time so we don't have to read the "skanky stuff". :read: Quote:

Do You Think TV Would Be Better.......
Quote:
Do you have the exact statistics of: 1) how many adult residents are living with their TV parents? 2) of these, how many of these adult residents have been arrested, etc? 3) compared arrests of any kind to other than adult children of TV residents? How can you postulate that perhaps TV would be better off if........ In today's America more and more adult children live with their parents all across this nation for myraid reasons economical medical, etc I could give you a number of ways I believe TV would be better off none of which have anything to do with adult children living here. By the way I welcome the adult children to this community because I recognize in the vast majority of reasons there is legitimate need vis a vis the stero-typical (dead beats) responses you get from some posters. There is obvious a lot of love and care going on in those homes. Thank you for bringing this topic to our attention because it appears it does need a breathing . Personal Best Regards: |

How does the saying go? Oh yeah, Ask a simple question, get a simple answer....

The entire question was based on the opining on this board about "deadbeat" kids living with parents. I was trying to figure out if that is a common opinion here or a very vocal minority. Pretty sure I got my answer from the very few responses that actually gave an opinion. |

My understanding of the law is that to be categorized as a 55+ community it MUST have at least 80% 55+ residents. The law ALLOWS up to 20% under age 55 to still be categorized as a 55+ community. There is nothing keeping a development from having 100% 55+. It is up to each community and deed restrictions.
|
We like to be around younger people as they usually make us "feel" younger. OP, 20% can be younger than 55 by law and regardless how we "feel" that is unlikely to change.
BTW, I agree that there is too much alcohol consumed at the squares. I don't particularly care one way or another as long as they are not obnoxious and have a designated driver to take them home. I have very little patience with an obnoxious drunk. |

I think the crime rate in TV is extremely low. I also like seeing younger people out and about. I think some people have a bias when the crime blotter states an age, and the correlation to age, becoming the dominate factor. It seems the little crime we have, is drug related, (including alcohol), and not age related. There are some people who are flat out thieves, trying to scam older people. IMHO
As other people have said, you can't paint everyone with the same broad brush. Seriously, zero crime rate is unattainable, no matter where one lives. Raising the minimum age is a very bad idea. It smacks of age discrimination. IMHO |
It's not an age thing, it's a creep thing. People who are going to be creeps are going to do it, no matter what. :(

Not to get off the subject but I would like to see a village just for dogs and their owners. This way they could **** and crap at their mail station.
