New speed bumps....

...aka the new patches of asphalt on the MMP parallel to 466A; wow, they are rough. The Villages subtle way to slow carts down.

NYGUY 04-04-2016 11:24 AM

I agree. And, I drove my cart over them last week after those areas had been dug out but not yet repaved. That was a real jarring experience!!

Polar Bear 04-04-2016 11:48 AM

Has the final course of asphalt been laid?

skip0358 04-04-2016 12:14 PM

Yea there's one on Morse Blvd N/B before Stillwater also. A real shocker.

justjim 04-04-2016 12:22 PM

It's just a very poor "patch job" and workmanship, further, whoever is responsible should be made to do it over. I wonder who is "monitoring"?

CritterLover 04-04-2016 12:30 PM

My guess is that the speed bumps would not have been necessary were it not for the reckless drivers. It's a shame that a few have to spoil it for all.

I wonder how it would feel doing say 17mph at night and you hit the bump. Besides a jarring experience, possible damage to your cart and perhaps some spinal or neck injury. Wonder if anyone will take on the liability. Oh yes there is Morgan and Morgan. Looks to me there was a significant lack of any sensible, reasonable thought prior to the installation of the bumps. :grumpy:

Uberschaf 04-04-2016 01:23 PM

They are nasty little dips.Looks like landscapers worked on the irrigation, putting sprinklers in the median.

LOL....these aren't speed bumps, just poorly paved patches that feel like speed bumps.

CritterLover 04-04-2016 01:35 PM

LOL! That would do it, for sure!

dewilson58 04-04-2016 02:25 PM

Darn.....That's the only place I can get my cart up to 20.2 mph.

rubicon 04-05-2016 03:55 AM

The Village also has ample concrete swells that play havoc with a cart because they dip so much. I purchased my club cart new in 2006 and in 2008 hit one of those swells at the wrong ankle . I called my repair guy and found that the cast iron mounting on my wheel broke in half.

I think they were smoother when the original asphalt was taken up and they had the cones out!

I had club car, front end suspension parts looked like tooth picks compared to my Yamaha's.

BobnBev: Many times than I can count I find some spelling mistake or misuse of a word or its misspelling. However since I knew what the poster meant and because I believe in saving face and not unnecessarily embarrassing a person I play it forward.

If the OP doesn't seem upset about it, why are your knickers in an uproar?

BobnBev: Why? Because 99.9999999999% of the members on TOTV go out of their way not to hurt other posters feelings especially when it comes to obvious keyboard errors or misspellings, etc They knew what the poster meant to say, such as when someone keyboard ankle when they meant angle. These are personal attacks. Its one thing to say I don't like that restaurant or to disagree directly on a point with some but quite another to use a person as sport (those gotch a moments).

I noticed your mistake in spelling on your edit signature sometime ago. I knew what you meant and knew that you would get around to correcting it. In fact I do the same things my fingers work faster than my brains these days. You caught me on a bad day with your post. I regret my reply its not like me to let emotion take over but I very much dislike "gotcha moments".

Let's go forward with bygone being bygones and enjoy, debate.

Personal Best Regards:

PS When I worked in Human Resources we literally had 12 people personally review our newsletter before it went to employees. This despite the computer's word check and it was never a futile exercise. Its the way the brain works and this brain issue is the same reason we all find golf difficult and why it pays to have a training pro with you at all times even the PGA pro's. Hint when proof checking read the sentence backward it helps identify misspellings.

Probably, 99.9% of posters/readers on TOTV have a sense of humor and aren't afraid to admit it. I feel sorry for those who can't find theirs.:icon_bored:
My last post on this subject.....MOD, feel free to lock this post.

New speed bumps....

Correcting grammar or spelling for humor is most of the time like using vulgarity for humor...cheap, easy and rarely funny.

kcrazorbackfan 04-06-2016 08:17 PM

And here again we've digressed from the original subject intent, which was the poor installation/workmanship of the freshly laid asphalt to the point of it being akin to speed bumps, to a spelling lesson and the correct use of grammar. Wow, I feel like I've been transported back in time to 1970/71 and 12th grade English with Mrs. Thompson. :boom:

outlaw 04-07-2016 08:07 AM

Ergo the phrase "cranky old person".

kcrazorbackfan: there is a digression than a digression. the former an aimless wandering from a topic the latter a direct and personal response to an unwelcome or welcomed side bar created by a poster.

This is a fun game! BTW, Rubicon, I believe the phrase is "pay it forward", but, clearly, I knew what you meant! :P

Hi CritterLover: I can see how there can be a mix up and I am aware of pay it forward and the movie with the same title. However I did mean play it forward meaning to understanding the typo/misuse of a word is a non-issue ,ignore it, and move forward without the need to comment. However it is pleasing to see that some posters, like yourself, actually read other posters comments before replying. Thank you for taking the time to converse with me and taking an interest in what I write. I will do so in kind because after all the intent of TOTV is one of sharing.

they aren't actual speed bumps or anywhere near as jarring as a real speed bump just annoying, but call m & m they could use a laugh.

Never thought of hitting one of those at night! I would hope they would at least have lots of reflectors on the speed bumps. Surprised they don't have them on 3 or 4 places on every round about. I bet The Villages wouldn't want to have that getting out into national news if someones $70,000. Corvette got damaged or someones $100,000 antique car got damaged. If they want to slow these 50 mph golf carts down take some of these gate people & post them there. Me myself, the longer I live here & I do really like it here, they're slowly be surely giving me second thoughts about do I want to continue living here!

Not much seems to slow down the steady march of folks who want to live here. We are the fastest growing place in the whole country.

If THEY are slowly but surely giving you second thoughts about living here, I am sure it is somewhat reassuring to know that you can easily sell your home and make a profit.

You can move somewhere that doesn't have bumps in the road.

These are on the CART PATHS? The roads are maintained by the county and the cart paths/multi modal paths are maintained by The Villages, right?

I am guilty of not having read this whole thread. Hasn't Bogie Shooter who knows who to call told Krazorback who to call?

AHA....I just read back. Post 18, Bogie Shooter told the OP to call the CDD. Now I will pour my second cup. Things are going as they should on here.

Nucky 04-11-2016 08:30 AM

I have made the mistake of pointing out the mistake of another. Made me feel like I was playing handball against the curb. Next think you know something unexpected like hitting a bump and bending a rim or transposing a number on a check happened to me. Just when I thought I was perfect. I read the same thing (angle vs ankle) and I believe the majority of people would just let it go....Karma.

Many of us are looking forward to you and the Mrs. getting here permanently. We stand ready to help when you arrive.
