Massey Beware

2 Attachment(s)
They say a picture is worth a thousand words .... here are two.

The only thing worse than Massey treating for weeds and killing the grass is their lack of customer service.

cologal 04-16-2016 05:50 PM

I gave up on them years ago!

kcrazorbackfan 04-16-2016 06:15 PM

What's their slogan - "expect more and get it"? Looks like the OP did get more - more dead grass.

I would ask them to come and replace those dead spots with sod since they are supposed to be taking care of your lawn.

justjim 04-16-2016 07:54 PM

I assume this happen while you were away from TV. Massey should, at least, give you a break on repairing the damage. However, none of the companies are going to come and check your yard weekly and I recommend a "house watch" service if your away more than two weeks at a time. An alternative might be a good friend to check but that is asking a lot and a big responsibility even for a good friend. "Bugs" can destroy a yard in a short time. Sorry this has happen to you.

Jima64 04-16-2016 08:21 PM

Sod webworms, army worms or fungus can do a number on your yard in just a few days. A monthly service needs input from the homeowner asap.

I have had Massey since moving here in 2006. they have been very responsive and very effective. Every company and any company can have a bad performer. When I first arrived the worker doing my lawn was a poor performer. I called for the supervisor. He came out to my home did soil testing finding nutrient deficit corrected the problem. Lawn is in good shape

Perhaps all the OP needs is a minor correction?

DonH57 04-17-2016 06:18 AM

We have also had Massey since moving here. Have had absolutely no issues with our lawn.

Yes, I found Massey to be very responsive...when they received my final check and notice to cancel. Received multiple "concerned" phonecalls, etc. No thanks.

graciegirl 04-17-2016 07:30 AM

I wonder.......WHAT services you contracted with Massey for. This damage could have been caused by sod web worms. I wonder if you live here year 'round? This grass looks very dead, not just in the process. I think it wise to NOT tell your lawn service if you are off campus for just plain security reasons. (sorry I am a worrier) but things can happen to your lawn that are not caused by over or under fertilization or weed control.

I don't have a dog in this fight. We don't use Massey...but When we were snowbirds with limited lawn service, we would come home to unpleasant surprises in our lawn and bushes and weeds.

What ever it is appears to be in your neighbor's yard too, according to the second picture between the houses. Do they have Massey too?

asianthree 04-17-2016 07:47 AM

We know of people who is lawn was being mowed and the hydraulic system let go. There is oil in spots in the whole yard. You could tell as they were mowing the lawn but did not stop. When mower was stopped by owner he said it was like that when they got there. Company was called They refused to do anything about it waiting to hear which lawn company it is. But the lawn is basically destroyed.

goodtimesintv 04-17-2016 09:26 AM

Those pics speak volumes about trying to grow lawn turf in what was pasture dirt for millennia, that was ALL moved and transplanted after all the topsoil was scraped off, hauled, piled and the hauled again to other areas as home lots were built.

You can only defy nature so much. This is why so many homes here use river rock. Mother Nature always prevails.

Fertigator? Others?

Opinions about Fertigator? I'm not thrilled with Deans. I'm paying for bed weed control, yet I have persistent weeds. The best I can describe our lawn is scruffy. Our lawn service at our previous home up north prided themselves on having the best looking lawns/landscaping around. After they had worked on our property for about 3 months, we had a beautiful, lush lawn and our beds were pristine. I felt I was getting my money's worth.

I probably could do better with another company (or set of companies), but so far Fertigator's occasional lapses haven't been bad enough that I've been motivated to fire them. As a part-year resident, I do like having one company to deal with.

Got rid of them

N44125 04-17-2016 06:01 PM

We've had Massey for 5+ years, ever since we moved here. Never, repeat, never had a problem. Lawn looks great.

Mickedamouse24 04-17-2016 06:12 PM

:(Don't use Bates!!! Have had them for over 4 years and currently my yard is being ravaged by fungus! Their response was dig up the effected areas and replace it with new sod! Their tech never even considering informing us that we had an issue!!! But he continue to spray and fertilize!!

Kahuna32162 04-17-2016 08:00 PM

We use Massey for pest control only, $65, every 3 months and they come out whenever we call.

Our lawn service called us when we were up North to let us know there was a small dying spot in our front lawn and I immediately called our service that fertilizes to let them know. Call was directed to a Supervisor who promised to go and check and report back to me. The following day she called with the diagnosis and the treatment plan of attack. She subsequently followed up with me weekly to let me know of the remedy and progress with the treatment. Lawn resolved beautifully and looks great.

We have never regretted dropping the old service and subscribing with Heron.

Those pics do not look like any natural (disease/pest) effect. They look like a chemical application mistake. Thick grass but totally brown. Looks like weed killer/grass killer totally misapplied.

TomOB 04-18-2016 08:44 AM

We have had Massey for 5 years. I have had 2 problems with my lawn. I called, they sent a supervisor and everything was taken care of to my satisfaction. Massey is good for me and goes above and beyond when there is a problem and I call for extra service.

I googled/binged pest damage in Florida and got all these pictures. Note some where they pull up the sod and show those creepy worms.
