NEW Villages FM radio station
Hi everyone,
A former Village resident is building a new FM radio station this summer. And we're interested in your format thoughts for the new station. Options include: Easy Oldies, Classic Country and Classic Hits. Give us your thoughts! Thanks |
If I had to pick a single "gap" that I thought would appeal to the most Villagers, it'd be classic country. Oldies abound, to a fault, IMO.
Someday I'd dearly love to see a station with the guts to offer a real wide net of programming. I'm probably in the minority since I'm such a music guy, but if you could give me everything from Van Morrison to Patsy Cline to Keb 'Mo to the Smithereens to Mel Torme', I'd be one happy camper. Most programming these days seems to assume the listeners only have one gear. 'Taint so! |
couple of questions....will this be a non-comm LPFM? Will it be operated from within the Villages? How do I get involved?
BTW, I would think that a well constructed mix of many music genres would have a large appeal to most Villagers. We all come from different areas with vastly different tastes in music. Feel free to PM me if this is not the proper place to answer some of my questions. |
Classic Rock Please!!
I like rock and roll 50-70 , that's my 2 cents
Kick butt Rock and Roll!
rock 50-70 and today's country
Classic Country gets my vote.

A real simple way to help decide is to answer this question. What two bands draw the biggest crowds at the squares?
Answer: Rocky n the Rollers and Uncle Bob's Rock Shop. The first band Rocky, performs 50's and 60's rock, which is the mainstay of the current developer owned station WVLG. http://www.williamclare.com/sites/de...ers%202015.jpg UBRS features music that is considered classic rock by most people. They can perform the Beatles and lead right into Jimi Hendrix to Led Zepplin to Pink Floyd followed by the Eagles. https://cdn-az.allevents.in/banners/...d69fa0f914a66d Currenly I've only found one classic rock station WIND 95.5 out of Ocala/Gainesville. However, the station becomes weaker as you move south, and since I we often find ourselves headed toward Orlando, Clermont or Tampa I put XM/Sirius Radio in my car and really love it. I've got 18 present channels that I can go to at anytime. I would focus on the area between The Villages, Leesburg, Clermont and west Orlando for an area that classic rock could succeed. I've been involved with music sales a good part of my life. I owned and operated a record store in Savannah, Georgia for almost ten years and operated a mail order CD/Record business for 20 years. |
I like rock and roll 50-70.
Dish has a channel called "unforgetable".
Sinatra, Bennett, Fitgerald, Nat King Cole, Rosemary Clooney, Judy Garland, Michael Bubble, Harry Connick and many other artists. |
I vote for the same music that the developer's AM station plays.
Why not a wider mix of programming? I'm a classic rock guy 50's - 80's bit I do love a good Blues mix.
None of the above. Smooth jazz.
And blues..good thot, mikey. |
I would love a smooth jazz station. San Diego had one for many years at 98.1. Alas, new owners and suddenly it sounds like every other station.
Please, whatever you do - NO COUNTRY. Classic rock, classic oldies - anything but country.
Top 40 Country......thanks

Rock... No no no

Most readers apparently did not read the options on your thread....
Rock 50's - 70's
and a Doo wop weekly show |
Why bother giving 3 choices when you have obviously decided upon what you're going to play?
Please, a station that doesn't promote The Villages all the time. It seems WVLG devotes most of their air time to infomercials rather than music. A nice mix of genres would be a welcome change. I never listen to country stations even though I enjoy many of those songs when I hear them elsewhere.
Good luck and let us know when and where we can hear it. |

NEW FM in the Villages

Country... Old and new
Classic Rock, maybe a jazz segment at a certain time, and though I don't much care for country, a segment for those fans too
Classic Rock, Oldies, fewer commercials
On my Ipod, I have everything from alternative rock, classic country, rock, oldies, to soft jazz...you name it. Just about everything except rap and "contemporary country". I don't see anything country in the new stuff. :)
Classic country would top my list, but a mix of all three would work for me. A once a week 2 or 3 hours of only country classics is a good option.
Anything but rap. :D
24 hour political analysis. Oh wait - I mean classic rock 60's and 70's with some country rock thrown in for variety.
I believe that there are enough hours in a day, days in a week and weeks in a year that all music genres can be effectively accommodated for everyone's listening pleasures.
Failing to establish program blocks might do both the station and the listeners a disservice. And there is nothing to stop the station from establishing a rotation of the blocks so that listeners are exposed to a genre they might find surprises them pleasantly and vice versa. As well, no one wants to have to wake up to listen to their faves at 3am all the time! ;) Just something to ponder. |
No Beatles!
Anything but ABBA......Nails on a chalkboard!!
Classic country!
format
This program was once called Jukebox Saturday Night, then the dumb%#% laid him off , so he started his own show. Listen on Saturday night (from your computer) That would be my vote for every day. Rockin' Ron does it right. IMHO
