BEWARE Do Not Hire Dryer Vent Cleaners

You've seen their ad in the Daily Sun "Air Duct Cleaning Whole House $25 Up to 5 Vents " Independent Duct Cleaning Solutions
Very appealing cost but DO NOT CALL OR HIRE this outfit. I just had a terrible experience with them. Not only did they overcharge for the job, high pressure me into spending $250-$300 (I didn't do that !!), they broke our dryer hose. When I called their customer service to have them repair the damage, it took 5...FIVE!!...days for them to respond! In the meantime I bought a new hose and fixed it myself, but ....bottom line...they charged $102 to do a little vacuuming and break our dryer !!
Do Not Get Taken Like I Did !!

villagetinker 05-12-2016 10:55 AM

Was the damaged section, the plastic flexible piece between the dryer and the wall, just curious.

I thought the folks who cleaned out your dryer vent were different than the folks who cleaned out your whole house heating and cooling vents.

There is one fellow who many of us have used for all the lint in the dryer vent up to the roof or out to the yard.... and he is wonderful. I can't think of his name but I don't want anyone to think that all the pipe cleaners are the same.

Desmond Harris, I'll bet. Very good.

That's HIM. You are right. Does a terrific job and have heard many positive comments about him on this forum.

rubicon 05-12-2016 01:21 PM

Desmond has cleaned out our dryer vent for the last three years. We use the dryer often so it does need a yearly cleaning and Desmond people do excellent work

Yes, but be sure you also climb up on the roof and get all the caked lint out of the vent. Hubby does this for me every six months or so and you can't believe what comes out. I can always tell when it is time, as it takes me longer to dry my clothes.

Phanatic Luvr 05-12-2016 04:40 PM

Anyone have a # for Desmond?

TNLAKEPANDA 05-12-2016 04:43 PM

Cleaning your AC vents is a waste of money. Not necessary if you regularly replace your filters with a good filter (not the cheap ones sold at ACE... nothing against ACE but the filers they sell are not the best) .

We had a close call a while back. It looks like the price in TV for the dryer vent, the dryer piping and DRYER itself to be cleaned of lint is very reasonable. Please consider having it done, the peace of mind is worth the price. I would also avoid a plastic vent hose like photo1902 wisely pointed out. :agree:

Desmond just cleaned my dryer vents. He said they were clogged with cat hair. You may not think it, but if you have cat (s) their hair is in the sheets, towels, etc. and ends up in your dryer vents!

What does he charge to clean the dryer vent?? Does he go on the roof?

He does go on the roof. What he retrieves is amazing. All this humidity makes the lint all solid looking. This was a new house and only a couple of years and there was copious amounts of lint. I remember the cost being quite low and you know how frugal I am.

Cedwards38 05-14-2016 07:11 AM

Another thumbs up for Desmond Harris! :a040:

Sable99 05-14-2016 04:01 PM

He charges $55 to clean the dryer vent. They will also change the batteries in the smoke detectors. He did my house yesterday.

rubicon 05-15-2016 04:41 AM

A lint build up interferes/blocks the drying temperatures causing the dryer to take longer to dry your clothes.

Frenchie 05-16-2016 03:35 PM

How do you reach him?

Mostly all the homes in TV vent up to the roof (which is expensive to clean and could be a fire hazard) except the Patio Villa. The PV vents to the side of the house and is only about 6 inches long.

Yes but ours was metal and a devil to repair, took approximately 3 hours and a lot of cursing.

I have been told (but am not 100% certain) that the plastic flexible vent tube is a code violation. Your vent tube meets code. I changed to the metal tube last year.

His card says the company is:

Covenant Janitorial, LLC
Vent Cleaning/Driveway Sealing
"Where Going the Extra Mile Matters"

His employee Jason came to my house today, did a nice job cleaning the dryer vent. He also replaced 2 of my 4 smoke alarms, sadly I hadn't planned ahead and had more 9v batteries ready...

jmerow 08-27-2016 09:42 AM

Vent Cleaning

Thanks for posting about Independent Duct Cleaning Solutions. I saw their ad in today's Daily Sun and wondered how could they clean all the air ducts and dryer vent for $25. Seemed too good to be true. After reading your post apparently it is better to steer clear of this company.

Thanks again.

And here we have another misleading post that is quite innocent. The OP said he needed his dryer vent cleaned which is a whole different issue from having your heating and cooling ducts cleaned.

Desmond Harris from Covenant Janitorial and his employee Jason is very good, very dependable, very ethical and very reasonable. Here in this area where humidity is high, lint solidifies inside the vent and must be manually removed at the roof opening. It can't be just blown out. Your DRYER vent really should be cleaned every year. Your heating and cooling ducts not so often and I don't know anyone who does that because we have never had them cleaned.

This is a great example of TOTV at it`s best . I always look forward to reading / learning of reliable service providers on this site .
In fact I always keep a small notebook close at hand to write down the contact info for highly regarded vendors .

Thanks to all who share their experiences good and bad .
