The herd is gone

Mr. Word, the rancher that had cattle on the land between Tamarind Grove and 466a, has sold the entire herd to a rancher in Ocala. Construction on that property will begin in a few weeks reaching from 462 (Powell Rd.) to Sandhill exec course.

Construction of what?

50ft strip from fencing at back of homes has been sold to Trailwinds developer & I expect utilities to begin to be laid in this area in next few weeks but Realtor Danny Smith states that Beaumont property still not sold although sale is still progressing.

Im not sure this is news, or a surprise. Its been in the news many months ago about the development taking place in that area.

Sad ... I loved watching the cows each time I passed by.

Yeah. I would stick my head out the window and go, "Mooooooo."

patfla06 05-16-2016 06:51 PM

Sorry to see that happen.
I will miss the open fields and do NOT look
forward to the traffic, etc. that will come.

Me too. I am glad to find that was not the case, but very sorry to see the herd gone. I always enjoyed seeing them on the way to Winn Dixie. We always talked for them. Silly, but it amused us.

I thought exactly the same thing. :1rotfl:

The cattle herd went the way of the buffalo. Progress wins.

Perhaps its because many of us find the simple things in life to mean more : the aroma of coffee brewing, the clean smell of a baby just powdered, the taste of rain on our tongue, an interesting cloud formation, the ticking of a clock, the sound of a train, the creaking in a wooden floor, beauty physical or soulful, love, patriotism, generosity, ......... explains why we miss the herd, we miss the buffalo, we miss the calm they seem to invoke.

Progress is good. Quit complaining and being so negative. Think of all the new neighbors you will have the opportunity to meet. And yes, with more people, more businesses will come to our area so that we will have even more choices. Also, our property values should skyrocket as soon as this new development project is built out. All good.

It's too bad The Villages and Wildwood couldn't come to an agreement. The Villages homes backing up to the property could be subject to a rude awakening.

I really don't think the people buying those new homes will mind backing up to Villages homes.

Well said, Rubicon. I couldn't say it better.

I agree that progress is good. At the same time Rubicon is opening our eyes to the nostalgia we sometimes feel. That is also good

Trail winds is to be a mixed use development....fast food, commercial and apartments. Or has it changed?

Beautifully said, and very true. :ho:

I guess that's the price paid for progress. My wife will miss seeing the cows and new calves as her late dad raised cattle.:sad:

Yea, me too. In a few years it will be watching Uber driving everybody to Publix or the squares. Congestion will be the norm and all those that love the big city will be in their glory.
