The fact that there has been such a rush to jump on the bandwagon of mocking the real problem, which is easy access to semi-automatice assault type rifles with large magazines, pretty much says it all.

Deep down, even a gun nut of average intelligence knows that trying to point to the 1 out of 100 mass murders committed with other than the rifles described above, is a simpleton's attempt at misdirection.

Having said that, the horse has been out of the barn for more than 70 years and any attempt to restrict access to said guns is pretty much impossible at this point.

Oh what a different country we would have, if SCOTUS had given proper weight to the phrase "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State..." in UNITED STATES v. MILLER (1939).

There is no question in my mind that the FF's never even imagined a standing military (which was the reason for the militia wording), much less the chance that every citizen could have unfettered access to the weapons that are currently available and would have been unimaginable to the FF's.

If they had, they would have put in some reasonable restrictions and control without making guns illegal across the board.

While I own a couple of guns myself, I still have a problem understanding a lot of the people I know who are almost addicted to and hypnotized by the sense of power they get from shooting theirs.

I swear that some of them, forced with the mandate of giving up their guns or their children...would choose their children.

Pretty sad when you think about it.

Don't you think that Obama knew almost right of the chute that Republicans would oppose everything that he put forward? If the Republicans asked him what day it was, they wouldn't believe his answer. If he gave them an answer at a congressional hearing, they would have started impeachment proceeding hearing for lying under oath.

What he should have done, was put himself in the center of the circular firing squad. Tell them take aim at me. They would do the opposite. They would spin the gun around, and aim at themselves. He could then bark out the order, "don't fire. You will never hit the target!" Good bye circular firing squad. On second thought, given their new found ability of never doing anything right, they would all survive.

Guns are only an issue in the hands of a bad person as are trucks, fertilizer, box cutters, etc. Take away (if it were possible) guns from bad people and they will simply use another weapon.

p.s. I don't own a gun and probably never will but I hope some good person does if I am ever under attack.
