Wanted -- loving dog

We recently lost our beloved dog after 17 years and are seeking a replacement. Our remaining dog is grieving big time. He is a 6 year old Wheaten terrier. If you know of an adult dog (4-7 yrs. old) who needs a loving forever home, please pm me. Our very first choice would be a golden retriever but they are scarce to find. Must love to be hugged and kissed a lot.

17 years is a long time. Sorry for your loss. :( Have you looked at the dogs at the Humane Society ? I bet there's many fur babies would love lots of hugs & kisses.

I am sorry for your loss. There are many people who post on here who are involved with rescues. I know you will find just the right pup.

I am sorry for your loss...pets are truly member of our families. You may want to check Golden Retriever Rescue of Mid-Florida; their web site is Golden Retriever Rescue of Mid-Florida, Inc.. This group had a lot of very sweet looking dogs available on their web site. There are always many, many adult dogs of all sizes and breeds that need new homes so thank you for wanting to rescue an adult dog. Good luck finding your fur baby.

Have you looked at Poodles and Pooch website?

GeoGeo 08-05-2016 10:33 AM

Check out the dogs at The Animal League (aka South Lake Animal League): South Lake Animal League - Photos | Facebook

If you adopt a dog they consider a senior and you are over a certain age, they will give you a discount. They considered my dog a senior and she is far from being a senior.

kaznerm 08-05-2016 07:21 PM

Thanks to everyone for all their suggestions. We have tried a few of them and will be going to an adoption event tomorrow. We really appreciate all the ideas.

CFrance 08-05-2016 07:52 PM

I am so sorry for your loss also. You might contact Golden Retriever Rescue of Mid Florida Golden Retriever Rescue of Mid-Florida, Inc. and Joshua's House, Home Page for Joshuas House for Golden Retriever Rescue
There is another golden retriever rescue group around too, but I don't know their name. Also you might google for Lab rescue orgs. They're loving goofballs too. Good luck to you and your Wheaten in finding a new friend.

Nucky 08-05-2016 07:56 PM

So so sorry.

plimit56 08-05-2016 08:35 PM

Please check out our dogs HSSPCA.org. We have many that need a loving home!

kaznerm 08-05-2016 08:44 PM

Thanks. We are stopping by tomorrow.

You sound like great dog owners. I'm very sorry for your loss.
But I'm happy that you're looking for a rescue.
Some wonderful dog will complete your family, and provide companionship for your Wheaton.
Best of luck. There are lots of great Rescue Organizations around.

There are 3 Golden Retriever Rescues in mid Florida and they always have dogs. We came to TV for the first time last Fall and fostered for them so I know they are great... just contact them and tell them what you are looking for. You will save a life and find one to love :)

Mia, I gave links in an earlier post to Joshua's House and GRRMF, but I couldn't remember the name of the third one. Can you post the name and maybe a link?

Joejohnson 08-10-2016 01:40 PM

We have had three rescues over our married years and I find any dog is a loving companion if treated properly.

I know you mentioned a golden, but would be interested in this dog, a yellow lab?

DOUG
DOB/AGE: 7-30-2010
WEIGHT: 85#

Fully trained, house trained, leash trained, knows commands, neutered, up-to-date on shots. He is afraid of storms, though. But you could ask your vet about options to keep him calm such as natural remedies, medication, or a Thunder Shirt. Here is a link to read more about him. South Lake Animal League - Timeline | Facebook Note: if you click on The League's link it will bring up their Facebook page and you need to wait just a little bit (seconds) for Doug's info. to come up.

Bump for Doug the yellow lab

Bump for Doug. Hope he finds a forever home very soon!

He looks adorable but we really wanted a smaller dog. Thank you so much for thinking of us.

In that case, I wouldn't advise getting a golden retriever, either. Our two are 76 and 83 lbs. (And they shed 3 lbs. of hair a day.:loco:)

kaznerm 08-11-2016 11:38 AM

You are probably right. We really want a dog that is slightly older like 6-9 yrs. and under 45 lbs. Once in a while I see a golden mixed that size, but our priorities have changed to look for a mellow older dog any breed.

Good luck to you. I'm sure you'll find the perfect pooch, kaznerm.

We just adopted the sweetest dog ever. Her name is Lexi and she is a 5 year old beagle. She is so mellow that even Murphy seems to like her, and Murphy doesn't like anyone or anything new or different. We're hoping she will bring Murphy out of his grieving after his brother died. Today was a good start. Love, love, love this new little dog.

CFrance 08-20-2016 08:01 PM

I remember Lexi being mentioned before. How wonderful that you have given her a home. Good luck to you and Murphy and Lexi!

Congratulations on getting a fur baby who needed a good home. I bet you'll get lots of kisses.

Lucky Lexi. I hope you have many happy days with your new beagle.
Thank you giving a loving home to a rescue.

I agree with Barefoot. Lexi . . . what a cute name. Enjoy your new furbaby!

GeoGeo 08-21-2016 12:14 PM

I saw Lexi approx. a month or so ago at Petsmart. I couldn't believe nobody had gotten this wonderful dog. Everyone was barking and going on. Lexi was quiet as a mouse. I am so glad to hear Lexi found a home.

kaznerm 08-22-2016 08:50 AM

A Beagle Reincarnation

As I mentioned in an earlier post, we adopted, Lexi, a beagle on Saturday. A strange thing has happened since then. Our grieving Wheaten (Murphy) immediately accepted the new dog with wagging tail and kisses. Murphy doesn't like any new dog, especially after he lost his brother, a beagle. Is it possible that Murphy thinks this is his deceased brother? Although the new dog is a beagle, she is a girl and about 15 lbs smaller. It is really weird, but we are so happy that Murphy is happy. He will now go on walks and plays with her. IT'S A MIRACLE (at least in our minds)!!!!! Talk about the Twilight Zone. :a040:

Carla B 08-22-2016 01:47 PM

That's wonderful. Can you post a photo of the two of them?
