Depressing...Lots Of Naysayers Live Here
It's amazing to read the posts here compared to what the vast majority of people think. I know where to come to look for everything wrong with the new administration. Even before we even know if their plans will work.
Check out the post-speech poll reported by CNN... http://www.boston.com/news/politics/...bama_addr.html |

I'm Less PO'd About The Stimulus Than Today's Spending Bill
I know it's only supposed to fund the government for the balance of the fiscal year, but an overall 8% increase in spending? 8,500 earmarks?
This is not Democrats or Republicans, although I recognize that the Dems are in control. Both parties all were complicit in passing this thing. If President Obama lets this stand without a veto, and if he then cuts his budget proposal by 8% (which I don't think will happen), all that would do is keep government spending even with this year. And this year was the grossly bloated budget approved last year. I've written the President imploring him to veto this bill. I hope he does, but I'm surely not holding my breath. These people in Congress live in their own world inside the beltway. We need to bring them back "out here" to get a real job! |

If all of the pundits and analysts are so brilliant about what is wrong here, where were they as we descended into this unholy morass? Why didn't they stop it? How can so many be so pompous, when at the end of the day no one is quite sure how to deal with it, beyond supposition and theory? I am not pleased with every point of what I see so far but at least he has surrounded himself with a broad scope of intelligent and experienced people and is attempting to progress through this. I guess someone has to be the scapegoat...shame he only got a few weeks to fix everything. |
Agreed!
I completely agree with you Serenity. Also, maybe I missed it but did anyone hear Bobby Jindal's response to President Obama's speech? Was he kidding???
That had to be one of the worst speeches I've ever heard. Even the Republicans hated it. He sounded like he was telling a bedtime story to kids! And this is the GOP's best hope??? :yuck: He's not going anywhere! |

Sadly. This seems to be the only way out right now. |
I guess I went to a different math class then you VK. 8% increase in spending for the federal budget? I think you should go check that again. I did. I got a number significantly higher then yours. Also, 8500 earmarks? By my math again it was 9500, but who's counting. Oh, yes, Mr Obama was counting. And he stood in front of the world and said there was zero earmarks in the bill. Made the point several times. Does that mean he was lying to us? Or did he just take a different math class then you and I did? Or perhaps his definition of an earmark or pork as we have all known it for the last 50 years is different than ours. Actually the pork was higher then the stimulus. A trillion here a trillion there, who cares, it's our kids and grandkids who will pay for it in taxes or inflation, not you and me. And didn't I read someplace there are less of them than us? Must be that new math again.

In the 2008 Sumter County presidential election where The Villages makes up a major portion of the electorate, it is interesting to note the result was overwhelmingly (63.01%) for McCain. Obama received only 36.04% of the vote. 82% of eligible voters went to the polls. 30,866 Sumter residents voted for McCain 17,655 voted for Obama To my Sumter County friends and neighbors, isn't it nice to live in a community of so many like minded people. I would not be surprised if other Villages districts registered similar results. Sooo.....it would appear you are in the midst of a constituency who does not tilt to your comfort zone on the left. Perhaps you will find more supportive and like minded thinkers on talk boards in urban areas like Chicago and San Francisco. I am sure Orlando would fit the mold. That is not to say we have a dearth of Liberal posters here. To the contrary, by nature, the left is usually more vocal than conservatives which sometimes makes their minions here seem greater than they actually are. Obama is an intelligent, articulate communicator with charisma to spare. He is also the wrong president, with the wrong platform, and the wrong socialist agenda at exactly the wrong time in our history. His approval ratings are slipping dramatically and the only question that remains is how much damage he will do to our country before he leaves office. I know that this rant is a broadside. I'll save for a rainy day debate on Obama's: Disastrous Economic policy Billions in military cuts Emasculation of Intelligence Services Redistribution of Wealth Oppressive growth killing taxation His Fairness Doctrine designed to kill conservative talk radio and free speech His agenda to advance a new secular society in America His lies - this will be a very long post Wow.....this posting thing can be therapeutic. I feel better already. Standing by for incoming. Everyone, have a really great day in The Villages. |

Individual income taxes are going to the stratosphere. The "rate" may only go up for the top bracket, but deductions are going to be sliced big-time. Once that happens, everyone who itemizes will be pinched, and I would not be surprised to see the "standard deduction" shrunk as well. There is no free lunch. Whether that's being a nay-sayer, pragmatist or realist - semantics! |
CABO35.....GREAT post !!!!
I think I am most troubled by the lies !!! Most of what he is doing was predictable, but I never expected that kind of stuff, at least so early in his tenure. Just heard a discussion this morning that he actually wants to make only 30% of charitable contributions tax deductible which will surely devaste many charities, but then the government can step up and fill the void I suppose ! Yes, many times the liberal slanted folks are most vocal but wanted to post to let you know that there are those of us who think this "marriage" of Obama and a Pelosi, Reid led congress is the "perfect storm" for this time and place !! |
Some say that those that speak out against Obama have no suggestions. He is not honest with us when he says there are no earmarks when there are 9000.
My SUGGESTION is say no to the earmarks. As I have said before, how can you believe anything he says after he says there are no earmarks. After he looks straight at the camera and says there are no earmarks! |
What matters to me and many others (both parties)
is to be able to voice an opinion regarding words said....promises made...VS actions taken or not taken by the POTUS or any other lawmaker (REGARDLESS OF PARTY/RACE/RELIGION/or what ever).
We all know politicians say one thing to get elected. They do what ever they have to do to remain in office....and sometimes in those processes they deliver on something from the vote for me speeches.....NOT VERY OFTEN. When one says they are going to CHANGE how we do business in Washington....hires all Washington insiders who know all the reasons why things done the way the are will continue...who ignores the most basic opportunity anybody ever had to show there is sincerity in intent...he could have very easily pontificated....there shalt be no pork (which was promised)....but he did not. This is not bashing it is merely making a true statement. New management does not condone what is being done wrong just because it is expedient...."the bail out bill isn't perfect but get it passed" .....chock full of pork. He has sent a signal to Congress and boy have the picked up on it. Now a new $400 million spending bill is speeding through, once again loaded with pork and earmarks....PLUS allowing increased spending 2009 over 2008....for many projects that should be struck from the bill because they don't work, or they are losers or they have nothing to do with what the government NEEDS to do to keep operating. It is business as usual....and when business as usual is not nipped in the early days of office....it ain't going to be....it is business as usual. Me, I am very particular to what a person says they will do...I have this very bad habit from my operating days....if you say it...I EXPECT IT TO BE DONE. As a business turn around expert or shut the doors if it is truly not recoverable, I expect results from day one. And I do not abide by the ...but it takes time to _ _ _ _ excuses. Nail the simple ones from day one that telegraph things are going to CHANGE.....Obama passing up that opportunity on pork, earmarks and condoning year on year increases in budgeted spending for undeserving projects.....is deserving of comment. He blew a golden opportunity to make a SIGNIFICANT/SERIOUS CHANGE. In fact has instead condone the same old process. Whether by him or the opposition....when they don't deliver on the words....or the needs....they need to be taken to task....NOW....not later. Washington is still doing business as usual. We the people are not a page one priority. Politics was and still is. BTK It is just too simple to say...no pork and mean it. |

Where's the Fiscal Responsibility?
You know.....I worked as an Analyst in the Dept. of Treasury in a certain state for 25 yrs. Amazingly, I saw wasteful spending almost daily. I told my husband years ago, the problem with our budgets was just overspending.
If bloated salaries were frozen, non-essential jobs dissolved, reckless spending stopped, reduction of staff thru attrition, etc, etc., so much money could be saved. AND....that's only at the office and dept. levels. Starting at the local levels and all the way to the Federal level, the corruption, buddy spending and incompetence is just incredible. What our government is doing now is just ludicrous and becoming more so everyday. Wasn't it Michele Obama who said..."for the first time I'm proud to be an American"? Well, let's all think about that statement. Life is changing quickly and we all must demand some explanation. The government has somehow forgotten who they work for. Wouldn't we like all our Pensions protected as they have bailed out AIG to protect their's. So.........I'm ready for a locan American Tea Party! |
I have been holding off letting my political views known, but now that I am over my 11 posts and no-longer a newbie......
I don't feel that posts about the new Administration are negative, etc. I feel this shows that the residents of TV are VERY well informed and not just agreeing with the padlum the main stream media peddles. They have researched the facts, and that is the funny thing about facts, they tell the TRUTH. If much of this had been put out by the media before the election instead of hidden so they can further their agenda, this administration would not be in power, and yes power is the correct word. This is anothe of the key reasons that the wife and I decided on TV for our retirement, INFORMED RESIDENTS!!!! Army Guy |
