Lowe's Coming to Trailwinds Village

It appears that Lowe's is coming to Trailwinds Village.

The Southwest Florida Water Management District has received an application from Lowe's for a store in the Trailwinds Village development.

Link to SFWMD website: Environmental Resource Permit Apps There is a Map tab and interesting info in the Documents tab.

The location is on the north side of 466A (Trailwinds Village), about 1/4-mile east of the traffic light at Pinellas Place.

Cool! I love to shop at Lowe's and since I live in Sanibel, it's a long trip to the one on 441, so I say hurray :pepper2::pepper2::pepper2:

NYGUY 08-12-2016 02:16 PM

I think Rt44 would have been a better location aesthetically for a commercial enterprise such as Lowe's.

I agree!

Living in Gilchrist I am NOT thrilled with this development.
Just think of the traffic this will bring.

DeanFL 08-12-2016 04:35 PM

Whoa!!!!! Next step is a Costco and all the other multitude of shopping and restaurants folks were clamoring for. The first domino....

Yes re the expected Lowes location..? not really main thoroughfares. Perhaps not 44A due to the current Sparr store.

kcrazorbackfan 08-12-2016 04:38 PM

Also a Dick's Sporting Goods and possibly a Sam's from what I heard.

jgm3279 08-12-2016 05:01 PM

A dream come true for my hubby! :)

RickeyD 08-12-2016 06:04 PM

This will hurt the Ace hardware store in Wildwood. He had a good run anyway.

:( I had the same thought. Rt 44 or 301 would have been aesthetically better, plus it will bring huge trailers onto 466A, smack in the middle of the villages. I also didn't think there was enough space for a huge building and parking lot like Lowe's would need.

What are these companies doing making plans to open new stores without asking us first?!?!

There is a LOT of land left, from the fence where they are now excavating, to 462; enough to handle several big box stores and their parking. This has probably been in the works for awhile; could be why 462 is being made 4 lanes from 466a to 301. Would hate to live in Tamarind Grove and have to look at loading docks out my back door. ☹️☹️

Anybody who bought back there had to know that idyllic pasture wouldn't last. We looked at a house backing up to it four years ago and declined. I will say there is a line of huge live oaks along the fence separating the homes and the pasture. But they are on the pasture side of the property. Hopefully for those folks, the builder will leave the trees there.

I still think it's better for that part of Tamarind Grove than what TV was going to do with that land-- building 400+ homes with the only golf cart access through the postal station and funneling onto Tamarind Grove Run. That would have destroyed our beautiful little park/pool area and peaceful neighborhood.

JudyC 08-13-2016 06:09 AM

Will the trailwinds complex be golf cart accessible?

GreggB 08-13-2016 08:12 AM

No Trailwinds property will not be golf cart accessible.

Thanks to the OP for posting the links to some great info regarding Lowes. The only part of Tamarind Grove effected by entire Trailwinds project appears to be Ansley Path (so east of the mail station) Refer to this http://barclaygroup.com/wp-content/u...016_Page_1.jpg note that Lowes would be in the space designated CO-19. The rest of Trailwinds backs to St. James. Tamarind Grove area will be more effected by the Wholelife Project if/when that starts (see this http://www.**************.com/major-...oped-to-build/ ) & that project is mostly homes. However, it appears that Wholelife Properties LLC may be in Chapter 11 bankruptcy so who knows (reference WholeLife Properties, LLC Bankruptcy (4:16-bk-42274), Texas Northern Bankruptcy Court ).

sorry the link refers to the other unmentionable TV news source so replace the **** with villages(dash)news

I think it's highly unlikely, but I haven't read anything one way or another.

NO! Trailwinds is a Wildwood development, and NOT part of The Villages. All of the earlier plans showed no golf cart access, and no golf cart crossing of 466a, so if planning on going there, you will need your car.

There is also no golf cart access across 462 or Powell, and the new section of 466a has a BIKE lane, but not a golf cart lane. Wildwood actually has very few if any golf cart accessible roads.

It looks like on that map of the Trailwinds development The Villages will still own about 40 acres of land on the NE corner of that development so maybe that will still be something like a courtyard development with golf cart access from the St James/Tamarind Groove area.

Looks like a POSSIBILITY of:Parallel to Ashville Avenue, "continuing West on Fairview Lane".

justjim 08-13-2016 11:53 AM

Good news for south TV for sure! The Village Developer controls much of the commercial land on State Route 44. He obviously has other plans down on 44. A fortune was certainly spent on Brownwood and it certainly is an "unique" piece of real estate. A lot more interesting than a big box store. You will note that Lowe's, Home Depot, Sam's, Kohl's, the 441 Super Walmart, Stein Mart, Best Buy and others were all built by other developers. Hey, capitalism and competition at its best.

Shimpy 08-13-2016 03:20 PM

Where you see a Lowes, there is usually a Home Depot near by.

As I recall, when the Morses were trying to get Wildwood to give variances for their proposed development on this property, the issue of golf cart accessibility was brought up by Wildwood. The developer did not agree. Now that someone else is developing this property, there may be a deal with Wildwood to provide golf cart access from Wildwood to this property and to the existing shopping area across 466A from this new development. If so, then Wildwood residents would theoretically have golf cart mmp access to TV via the existing shopping center. Interesting.

And Chicago could have cart access.

I don't think the vacant "40 acres" referred to here are owned by The Villages. I think it is the private property of the former owner of the Trailwinds Village land.

Could be. If that is the case, there will still be a Ranch/farm and trees/cows on this 40 as there are now. Looks like there will be an access road.

That is true. The owner did not sell all of the property.
