New Library!
This is probably old news to some, but I just heard it yesterday at the Library from a lady on the planning commission. They're building a huge new Library on 466A and 139. Breaking ground this Fall or an opening sometime next year. This will be wonderful, especially for us "southsiders". Looks like they're finally going to start building out this way. :coolsmiley:
Like I always say, TV just keeps getting better and better. ;) |
woo hoo!
|
OH goody.:pepper2::o:pepper2: Now maybe Boomer will move here and be the librarian.
|
Great - but will they have books? I have been on the wait-list for Bill O'Reilly's "Bold Fresh Piece of Humanity" - for at least a month & 1/2 - there are 2 copies & I think I was #19 on the list.
|
will it be golf cart accessible? or is it in wildwood and not on village property?
|
This is great news. Where is 139 in relation to Morse or Buena Vista?
|
Not Far...
Hi Jojo! How are you??? If you go down Buena Vista to 466A and turn right as if going to Wildwood, 139 is just a bit down. I didn't even know The Villages owned that property down there, but I guess they do. It's not far at all if you're a southsider! :coolsmiley:
|
Ooops! Didn't see the other questions. She said will be huge and filled with books. I don't know about golf cart accessible, but since the Villages does own that property, I would think something would be done to make it golf cart accessible. I didn't think to ask her that.

This is some of the best news I've heard in a long time. The one thing I was truly sad I had to give up from the outside world when relocating to TV was a decent library. I LOVE my local library and utilize it often. This makes my day.:clap2:
|
Is 139 the intersection where you turn to go to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church?
|
Same here ..........
I agree. Wifey and I lived in a little town outside Orlando prior to moving here. And all we had was a branch library from Seminole County. But the librarians there at least knew how to order things via ILL. And were very computer literate. Ask these people here what the Accession number is for a book or reel of microfilm and they look at you like your speaking Tibetian.
Very sad for a public library. I wonder, does the library police ever come around and check on the workers there to see if they know what they are doing? |

Yes, turn north at that intersection (toward St. Vince's) and it's CR462. Turn south and it's CR139. Re the property, I'm sure someone has more current facts, but TV owned almost everything up to 139 down to 44A. There were/are a few parcels of land owned by others, but they were minimal There are some homes along there. Also, if I remember correctly, TV donated the land for the library as well as for additional county offices to be located there. ` |
Library ???
Are you sure its a Library, Could be a maint. office decorated to look like a Library....You know, kinda like TRUMAN VILLE ....
Anyway I hope your right , One villager is waiting on O'rilley new book and I'm still waiting on SEE DICK RUN , RUN DICK RUN....... STUDIOUS FUMAR |
Julie, why did you have to give up your local library? I've found the Sumter County Library to be quite adequate. Granted, because (other than TV) there are no large cities in Sumter County, thus no large single library, there are many community libraries and all are connected via computer. You can reserve a book from any library in the Sumter Library System on-line, it will be delivered to whichever branch library you select (I use The Villages Branch near the High School), they will call you when it is there and all you have to do is pick it up, read it, and return it to where you picked it up. If the Sumter Library System doesn't have the book you want, they will order it for you from another library, anywhere in the state, that does have it. That sort of thing requires a visit to your local library branch though.

Even with that, a larger services with more services locally in TV will be advantageous to users. Libraries are excellent places to connect volunteers with the community through all types of programs whether they be tutoring, mentoring or outreach through the schools. |

No, the library is to be on the other side of 466A (south) on CR139. The area through which you walked, called Area 51 by someone in here, is amazing in its unexpected size. With the hundreds of new homes of all styles, the 3 or 4 or 5 new Exec golf courses, and likely a new rec center or two or three, there's a lot of development to be done before they cross 466A. In a 2004/2005 market, I'd say the whole thing would be completed, sold, and occupied by the end of the year (remember when they had 5 builders going full throttle?), but today I think we might have a couple more years north of 466A. Then comes an entirely new fantasy land on a surprisingly big plot of land between 466A and 44A. ` |

Yes they own the land up to 139 and down 139 to 44a, with the exceptions of the house on the left. Villages goes around those house and back to the 139 by the life flight area One of the Championship Courses will be near 139. |

Brownwood

I've seen lots of posts on Brownwood, but never just where it is to be located. Or else, I haven't searched hard enough. Could you share the location with us? Many thanks! Kate |

And now, SABRMnLgs, please bear with me while I explain about those accession numbers that seem to have caused such harsh judgment of those nice people working at the small library that is in TV right now. I am explaining this in my nice quiet voice and I am smiling sweetly. And my glasses are on the end of my nose. An accession number simply indicated the order in which something was added to the individual library's collection. Accession numbers were used in the days before barcodes. Accession numbers have now gone the way of the card catalog with those little drawers and 3X5 cards. New librarians might not know what an accession number is. It might be like saying, "Hey, do you have any 45's?" So anyway, that's what's up with those accession numbers. And it's OK. I cannot get out of here though without telling a little story. I heard about a librarian who on his last day of work went a little berserk. It was in the days of the card catalog with the drawers. It was said that he grabbed drawers from the catalog, pulled the rods out, climbed up on top of a table, and began to fling catalog cards all over the place. It was his last day. I do not know if that was by choice. But it is to be understood I think. Boomer |
Why????
............ Sumter Library System doesn't have the book you want, they will order it for you from another library, anywhere in the state, that does have it. That sort of thing requires a visit to your local library branch though.[/QUOTE]
When we lived in Oviedo (Seminole County), all we had to do to get something via ILL was to go online and request it. Since Seminole Cty is so big, it also gave you a choice of which library (main or branch) you wanted to pick up your item. Why is it necessary to "visit your local library?" Do they not have computers? |
across from the old Sonny's on Hwy-44. If you take 301 into Wildwood then take Hwy-44 east torward Leesburg. Once you go past Cindy Chevy and where Sparr Building Supply is, all that on the left side or North side of 44 is where Brownwood will go in. Buena Vista will go down to 44 just on the east side of where Brownwood will be. That will be a great access to The Villages from 44. Morse will come down and join 44 where cr-468 is.
