Thank goodness I get most of my news about TV from this forum.

It’s always the few who can make/get in trouble and cause bad publicity. I wonder if others are just envious that the vast majority of this community is having a great time here while being good citizens.

Agreed. I mean, look at the police blotter in any city USA and you'll find the same stuff (sans golf carts). Why would TV be any different? We are still humans here.

I think the Herald should reflect on their own city's arrest reports. Definitely some weird stuff to write about there.

Plus that photo of Spanish Springs is quite old.

So Miami Herald news staff is so lazy that they reprint 3 stories about morons from the local RagOnline.com tabloid.

Ok y'all....here's another way of looking at this....maybe it will keep the morons from buying a home here.

Something like this was posted on Facebook in my HS class forum from a classmate who is a doctor! And he opening pointed his finger at us since he knew we lived here. Of course I defended ourselves, we do not run in the wife swapping circles or anything like that!

Boy was I embrassed but then I thought I know what my hubby and I do and it's not what they say about the crazy stuff that happens here.

We want to keep morons out who think we are all sexual crazies but, we don't want to invite sexual perverts here!

Au contraire.... stories like this will attract more morons to TV. Its obvious that the nation is fascinated with the concept of The villages and hence its draws attention even for stories as mundane as cited in the Miami Hearld

I was e-mailed a video with the content of the 7 strangest cities on the planet and much to my surprise the number 1 strangest city listed was The Villages.

I did take umbrage toward the producers of this video and thought this place is a very ordinary and old concept in places like Florida, Arizona, California. The only difference is that it is bigger.

So as many of us are golfers we understand the concept of bad experiences best forgotten quickly and onto the next shot

Controversial news sells papers. The good news, hours and monies raised by Villages residents for local charities does not in a foreign newspaper. I'll take the Happy News in the Daily Sun anytime.

Yellow journalism is so prevalent in this world today and it is like a barrage of ugly vomit that is stinking us all up.

Those stories happened and made most of us cringe but we know all the good stuff that happens here and the happy things and the smiles exchanged and the quiet gentle selfless acts that really make this a place to live that makes us all proud. They don't see the volunteers in the hospital, at the soup kitchen, in the local classrooms, and the good strong happy unions that exist all over this place. They don't see married people holding hands and laughing together and enjoying evenings with friends. They don't see singles enjoying activities that enrich and enliven their lives and are just plain fun of the wholesome variety.

It is not interesting to talk about golf groups who have enjoyed each others company for years and church groups who gather each week to support each other and to praise their maker.

They don't talk about people here learning and practicing fun new crafts and arts and continuing to sing and dance and play music for the joy of it.

Enough. Sour grapes Miami. Too bad. You ain't us.

I have not seen much in the way of sexual tension in the air in the Villages since moving here in June of 2005.

Once in a while I see a very happy couple holding hands but that is about it.

I think the OP's calling it Sexual Tensions was way off the mark. He should have called it embarrassing behavior. We have all the usual happy things happening here, maybe not quite as often as they used to, maybe not in public, but none of us are dead yet.

I think the term 'tension' as it relates to the above mentioned article...is a complete misnomer.


If the things being mentioned are actually that prevalent, it seems to me that said 'tension'...is being addressed. :)


Methinks maybe those who seem to always post with an undercurrent of tension...would be better off trying harder to alleviate that 'tension.' :D

If the pictures of our town squares were not so perfect, there would be less stories printed.

How does one counter this bad press? We can by addressing the bad articles, telling the truth and our story of this fantastic place.

Slow news day everywhere. The same AP article appears today in the Living section of the Charlotte Observer. (NC).

Its why i insulate myself more and more these days and before you know it I'll be that hermit in the cave:D You did touch on a topic i believed was a good topic for this forum and was going to submit this AM but I had other priorities er rather my spouse had other priorities for me...bless her heart:D

Too bad they missed the most interesting sexual encounter. I'm talking about "sex on the Square"! This is only in The Miami paper because it's The Villages.

Just yesterday while resting after a workout at a popular fitness center in Springfield, IL., a stranger (I had seen him there before) came up to me and said; "I hear you have a home in The Villages". Yeah, for about 10 years, I said. "Is it true about all the wife swapping parties", he said. Nope, I said. And the conversation went on...... True story. Unbelievable. So this story in the Miami Herald and the on-line story about being number one "strange city" are nothing new. We do have quite the reputation----like it or not. LOL.

With all due respect, I don't believe the so called "unnamed on-line paper" is what I would call a Tabloid paper. I love competition and the on-line paper is at least an alternative to the Daily. I read them both just as I read the information from both the POA and the VHA.

I read both conservative and liberal columnist too. The more points of view the better informed.

Abraham Lincoln probably said it best. "I don't like that man, I must get to know him better."

I don't quite understand the outrage. These three stories were all reported in the Daily Sun, with the same details, within the last month or so. They didn't include the "Sexual Tension" headline, but otherwise the same stories. I don't see an issue about reporting information that are reported by our own paper.

Stuff like this will happen with the huge size now of the Villages. Think of the hundred couples though that seem to get along with one another here in the Villages rather than these three.

I don't see any "outrage" about this silly article. Mostly people just commenting on how empty the media has become.

As for them just reporting information from out own paper... how are these 3 minor stories worthy of national news? How about some national coverage of festivals all over the U.S. being disrupted by mobs of rampaging "youth?"

I find it disturbing that "enlightened" elitists stereotype and brand others as bigots when they are posting condescending illustrations of their own bigotry and loathing of others they think are not as smart as they are.

I and others have stated clearly, with screenshots, here before how it's the WAY that rag designs its cover pages to showcase 90% scum of the earth dregs and criminals around TV, with one or two "news" stories buried below the fold, of what's actually news that's not a 4-times magnified police blotter.

In a city of 120+, there will no doubt be a few couples who are at war, but many thousands of happy couples.
This type of garbage is best ignored.
