Villages sites down?

Has anyone tried thevillages.com, thevillages.net, or golfthevillages.com this AM. All are unreachable and cannot even ping them from a command line.

All work fine for me.

Dan9871 09-12-2016 05:38 AM

When you can't reach a site isitdownorjust<dot>me is a site you can use to see if it's just you or the site is really down.

Thank you, and the site is up.
Now it is getting weird. I've released and renewed my ip config, flushed the dns, deleted browsing history and cookies, ran PC matic scan and fix, rebooted and everything is fine EXCEPT those 3 sites. I thought it was a Microsoft edge quirk, but that doesn't explain why I can't ping those sites. Rebooted router and no change either.

NYGUY 09-12-2016 08:11 AM

Not working for me either.

Allegiance 09-12-2016 08:21 AM

same here. I spent over an hour on the phone as they kept reconfiguring my router to no avail. When TOTV came through with others in the same boat, I informed them and they are looking at their system. Funny that I can get on all sites (that I use) other than thevillages.net, the villages.com, golfthevillages.com and thevillageshealth.com

Dan9871 09-12-2016 10:07 AM

try browsing directly to 71.46.250.43 That's one of the IP addresses for thevillages.net. If that works then you something is wrong with DNS lookup for you.

Another handy site to use when you are trying to figure out things about a site is mxtoolbox <dot> com

I'll try it, but I flushed the DNS to no avail

pjolson 09-12-2016 10:39 AM

I'd advise everyone on Centurylink with this problem to call them. They're still not convinced they have a systemic problem and it's not just my router. 877-646-3282

Also, CenturyLink....I will give them a call.

NYGUY 09-12-2016 11:45 AM

Just got off the phone with CenturyLink, and they did not believe me either. It works for them, so they say it works. He said we all must have something in common..i.e. the same virus software..:cus:

Yes, we have something in common---CenturyLink!

I disabled my virus software early in my investigation of the problem--no effect. I released and renewed my ipconfig and flushed my DNS---so don't take that as an excuse either. I suspect that some switch or router or server at CenturyLink has a corrupted file, causing inability to reach certain websites, maybe those with similar IP or MAC clone addresses, but their infrastructure is beyond my expertise.

NYGUY 09-12-2016 12:12 PM

I just got off the phone with the tee time office (thevillages.net) and they are aware of the problem and have made CenturyLink aware of the problem, who they say is working on fixing it. They know the people we talk to on the phone don't get it, but assure me it is being worked on.

That makes sense---when we call CenturyLink we may get Seattle, or Boston, or Phoenix---and they don't communicate with each other, all they have to go by is their log which I doubt is cross-referenced by type of problem. But businesses with a website have a different number to call and probably better coordination of service

Hadley 09-12-2016 12:21 PM

I escalated the problem through tech support at CenturyLink to no avail. They cannot find a problem and could only suggest that there may be some sort of "upgrade" in progress at the website that is temporarily blocking access. They said for me to monitor the situation for 24-48 hours and if it doesn't clear up, call them back.

Nucky 09-12-2016 12:24 PM

Maybe Concast bought CenturyLink. I hate getting the brush off.

Hadley 09-12-2016 12:26 PM

Clark Howard calls it "Customer No-Service"

Give them an "E" for effort, as well as error. That dog won't hunt since it is affecting at least 4 websites. Also, I can't get to thevillages.net on my I phone when going thru centurylink wifi, but no problem when I switch it to LTE. Consider yourself another member in the "blown off" club

A thread revisit seems appropriate.

In spite of the title of the thread, it seems the majority posting in the thread (whom prefer Comcast)...now have validation. :D

For those who are having problems...here's hoping it is soon resolved for you.

I found CenturyLink reps/tech support, manly warm their chair. :D

Go to the control panel, choose network and sharing, change adapter settings, choose your connection method, right click to get to properties, select internet protocol 4, then properties, preferred DNS server and enter 8.8.8.8 and the alternate DNS server 8.8.4.4

I do not want to take credit for this, but on another thread 'ChuckandBernice' posted this comment. I have tried this fix and it corrects all the villages website problems and actually speeded up my computer. Just take your time and follow the directions that he has written above.

Thanks, also. It works on the laptop, again. Turned Wi-Fi off earlier on the phone to get tee time for men's day tomorrow. :bigbow:

I'm also getting a response that server is not found. Tried on 2 different computers, and iphone. My neighbor is also unable to reach site.

SarFred 09-12-2016 09:18 PM

villages.net

Cannot get villages.net either.

legacyarts 09-12-2016 09:32 PM

I did the ChuckandBernice fix and it solved the problem, so I now have access to villages.net. Here was their fix: Originally posted by ChuckandBernice

Another work around is to just turn off the wi-fi on your smart phone and bypass Century Link. If you want to use your computer, turn on your phone hot spot and connect to it. Works fine.

It took me awhile to adapt the instructions for a MAC but I did and can now access the site. Thanks for the help.

Villages.net down since yesterday

Their phone message states they are aware of problem and heavy incoming call volume. Instruct caller to call CenturyLink. CenturyLink informed me problem was with Villages.net server whom is trying to fix. CenturyLink was informed that estimated time for fix is end of day today.
I have been without email or golf access since yesterday morning

bagboy 09-13-2016 08:17 AM

I can now access the websites using my tablet. Last night I could not. Hopefully the problem is fixed for everyone.
