Sae a golf cart on Rolling Acres
Heading south on Rolling Acres-saw a golf cart crossing Rolling Acres between the two malls--it was not a street legal cart--another death wish
|
Like a street legal cart is safer.
|
Sometimes you just got to get to Five Guys
|
Folks who live at Recreation Plantation do that dozens of times a day to get to The Villages. They shoot over to the Lady Lake Driving Range and from there they can back door into The Villages at Palermo Place.

Same cart as most of us have except it goes 3-5 mph faster and you get to pay $600 or more for registration and maybe a couple hundred more for insurance. For tha extra almost $1000; no safer than yours or mine. They get there two carts ahead of us. |
Eligible for the Darwin Award, especially in light of this past week's tragedy.

I was in the new Steinmark store next to Kohl's on 441/27 shortly after it opened and a person came in looking for a manager. He brought in an older looking fellow and he needed a drink of water and to sit down and rest. Outside was new looking golf cart, very nice with upgraded seats. I heard them say he was trying to get to the hospital, and then they asked him where he came from, he said Water Oak Estates. That is a real dare devil, or in case, build it and they will come.

You can't fix stupid--just like a daisy chain of bicyclists sweeping around the traffic circle, @ Stillwater & Morse--another death wish--some person might get flustered and not know what to do&we have a good body count- & its not a reality show--its only a matter of time--its gonna happen
|
There is no cure for Stupid.

They were in the middle , looked like they angled slightly east--but they were definitely going towards Pier 1 store

But but it's their right to ride on Morse. |
I would never desire a street legal cart...never....
|
remember there's a difference between right & DEAD right

Sometimes I don't think it's so much as being stupid as possibly being confused as to where you can drive your golf cart.
|
We have all seen the driver who can't stay in their lane when circling a roundabout--why would anyone on a bicycle trust their safety to be alongside any vehicle, especially when they are part of a chain of numerous riders--remember if you tie--you lose
|
Would have been smart to include a proper, foot crossing, when they redesigned that intersection.
Lot's of people park carts and try to cross on foot while dodging traffic. |

The man who died this week on Bella Cruz. was driving the cart with a real body, 3 way seat belts-but there is no way a 800 lb cart can survive being broadsided by a pickup truck & most important a traumatic stop that would injure a 30 year old most likely will be fatal for a person 60+--this is what I learned from my most recent AARP safe driving course--seniors bodies tend to go into shock quicker--

I'm laughing at this one ..... thinking that we should judge others for their behavior.
Likely we are well off to respect that others make decisions different than we do and leave it at that. They are as accountable as we. |

Actually it could be somewhat of a security issue and of course against the law. I have never heard or seen police stops of anyone crossing rolling acres? |
Unless it's a real "slow policing day" I don't see police officers spending much time watching for golf cart violations or, for that matter, bicycle's either. You could write a hundred tickets a day enforcing Bicycle's who rarely stop at stop signs and same with golf carts. Do want your local police to patrol these areas for violators or would you rather have police officers doing more important challenging police work?
Think about it. You can walk across Rolling Acres Road or ride a bike across but can't legally drive your golf cart across the road. Really, are any of these safe? For that matter, the way the entrance to the strip mall is designed, it's hardly safe for a car. Fore! |
You're right someone is asking for a short life. Just like when I'm driving my golf cart going the max speed limit & every cart that I see in my read view mirror will catch me & pass me & that's about everyone. I've only lived here for 5 yrs. & to this day I bet I can count on one hand how many people stop dead at STOP SIGNS, they roll right through them. I've had arrogant people follow me & when I stop DEAD at a stop sign they'll toot their horn & some will yell comments at me, I'll just smile & wave at them. So the person that went across Rolling Acres Rd. might be a new person living here or someone visiting. Don't be to hard on them, it's their life to learn the hard way!
|
It was very sad to learn of the man who lost his life last week. It came after I saw two of the scariest examples of golf carts going where they don't belong. I was driving down Rt. 42 and came upon a golf cart driving westbound in the right hand lane. Fortunately, I saw him soon enough to slow down to his speed and pass him on the left. The cart was not street legal, without any signage, and only had a triangular "caution" sign on the back. The limit is above 35 mph and this could have been horrid for him and for me. Earlier, I was pulling out of McDonald's on 466a, following a woman in a cart, not street legal, who drove out onto that 45mph road. Do people not know or do they not care that they are risking their lives?

You would be better off with a SmartCar... cheaper too!
