My $102.00 CenturyLink bill just went to $190.00 GUESS WHAT
Before I called to cancel I checked out the competition. (1 Comcast) (2 OTA plus internet TV) Please don’t mention Brighthouse, I am in Lake County
(1) Took 7 minutes to rule out Comcast. (2) a) OTA checked out my antenna and was shocked to find that all signals have apparently been improved. All networks 100% over 2 weeks. b) Internet TV Sony (PlayStationVue) jumped in last year with some hope. 8 months ago mediocre. 4 months ago looking hopeful. Today $35/month all cable channels no charge for HD no charge for DVR, no fees, did I say no fees I am viewing on Amazon TV Fire TV (Voice activated) |
What antenna have you set up for the OTA. Is it installed in your attic?
Are you going with the Century link for internet? What internet speed is required for your Roku/Vue approach. Do you have an OTA DVR or does Vue from an demand service. I always have plenty of questions..boy is TOTV helpful! Good luck |
I Googled OTA and got Organic Trade Organization. Share the new with us old boys. What is OTA?

Here's some answers
I am using a Winegard MS-2000 HDTV Antenna on my roof.
Amazon.com: Winegard MS-2000 HDTV Antenna with Cable: Home Audio & Theater Century Link Internet for now, will consider Comcast have ruled out comcast TV because of pricing Not sure what internet speed is needed for vue. I am using a roku in our bedroom and an Amazon Fire TV in the Living Room. The fire tv is available at Staples for $100.00 and much much better than roku. DVR for cable stations on play station vue is cloud based DVR for major networks from antenna is a Channel Master DVR Amazon.com : Channel Master DVR+ Bundle - subscription free digital video recorder with web features and channel guide (CM7500BDL2) : Camera & Photo |
For Hi-Def via Roku, you will use about 5 megabits/sec of your download internet bandwidth.

Call centurylink and tell them you won't pay any more than the $102 you were paying or you will cancel. They will magically find a promotion for you. I just did this with Comcast (BTW, I have no idea why people don't like Comcast, they are fine). Be firm.

Thank you for sharing the:BigApplause: details

Virginians, thanks for posting this information. I'd like to switch to OTA, and tried it a few years ago, but at that time the antenna I bought possibly wasn't strong enough, and/or my TV wasn't "smart" enough, so I gave up for awhile. It would be great if there was someone knowledgeable (as you are) that we could hire to set this up.

Century Link may as well wear a mask when you pay their bill. If I wasn't moving already I would definitely switch to anything else. Their charges are outrageous.

Those that use OTAs any problem with storm activity?

More for a LOT less
After 2 years my ComCast bill went from $113.00 to $187.00.
I called to find out what happened and they told me the 2 year contract had expired and I would be paying the higher bill from now on. I asked what we could do to bring this down, and other than go to basic everything, the fellow offered nothing. I told him I probably would have to look around for a better deal, and his reply was: "Well sir, we will be sad to loose you". NO offer to reduce the price, no nothing ! I went to the Century Link store off 441 and OMG, MORE for a lot less. My bill now will be in the $100.00 area, and if I go back 1 month before the 1 year anniversary date (forever) they will honor this promotional price. So far, VERY happy, and we don't have all those cables running to each TV, they are all on wireless receivers. WELL WORTH taking the time to explore your options. |
No issues with storm activity.

Thanks Biker1, it's good to know someone who can do this. Unfortunately I'll have to wait awhile to avoid paying another "early termination fee".
|
My experience with CenturyLink is that you can get "the new customer deal" after your "new customer deal" has expired if you call them up and ask for it. It may take a couple of calls. That is the new paradigm; be prepared to call periodically to get the latest deal.

I am in Lake County (Pine Ridge) and BrightHouse is now available. We just switched from Century Link to BrightHouse for internet only. We got a much lower rate ($45.38/mo plus sales tax) and the speed is much faster.
|
I use CenturyLink and pay $35/month (including all taxes and fees) for internet only. The speed is 40 megabits/sec download and 20 megabits/sec upload. This bandwidth is more than sufficient and I occasionally move 50 gigabyte files around at work (I run software projects).

With Sony's Play Station Vue, I can record unlimited cable channels and view from all TV sets. |

Which cable provider to go with will draw as many posts as which is better, gas or electric carts. My wife and I switched from CenturyLink to Comcast 8 months ago, and could not be happier. Is there any provider that's perfect? Of course not. With CenturyLink my bill would change nearly every month, my main TV picture was terrible while watching sports (not the TV's fault), and my set top boxes would frequently freeze up.
My customer service experience with Comcast has been nothing but positive, and the one incident where I had to swap out a router took a whopping 6 minutes at the Comcast Store on 441. |
Our Century Link Bill also went through the roof magically after all of our "discounts" went away. Am researching Bright House and Comcast and purchasing an Amazon Fire HDMI hookup for the 3rd TV. BH and Comcast seem to be pretty competitive. Any words of advice?
|
Yes, call them up and have them extend your discounts for another year or two. I do it regularly.
