Aldi coming to Trailwinds Village

1 Attachment(s)
Aldi has submitted plans for a nearly 20,000 sq. ft. store to be located in Trailwinds Village.

Two Easters ago I got a wonderful Ham for about a dollar a pound there. You just have to pick and choose. The things they offer change and sometimes they are great and sometimes not so great.

I often forget it is there. I like Publix and I like Walmart for some things too. I love to grocery shop. I like to prepare food for people I love.

Disgree also! Wonderful sales.

Trailwinds is the multi purpose development currently under construction on 466A, west of Buena Vista, across from Pinellas Plaza. It will also have a Lowe's home improvement store.

It's off 466 A where Lowes will be going. I believe there will also be an ABC liquor store, gas station, etc.

Riccckkk 09-30-2016 02:01 PM

I also disagree. Some products are superior to Publix. ALL prices are far superior to Publix.

I love Publix but Aldi has some great products at a great price. I have shopped Aldi fo several years. Always have been satisfied. Glad one is coming to your area.

kaseydog 09-30-2016 02:06 PM

aldis at trailwinds

Aldis ,in coral springs,fl.; was a low end store
with off brand products. Very disappointed.

Happy Snowbird 09-30-2016 03:04 PM

I love Aldis. I feel that some of my friends look down on me because I shop there but.....I smile all the way to the bank. I get sticker shock when I go into Publix or Winn Dixie.....only shop their meat sales. The guy who owns Aldis is the brother of Trader Joe's owner. Aldis even beats Wal-Marts prices. Every little savings adds up.....more happy hour drinks!!

Villageswimmer 09-30-2016 03:07 PM

We love Aldi. Great imported German chocolate. High end cheeses and unique seasonal items. Never had a substandard product there. Can't wait!

I don't like the snotty welfare comment. Many people shop there to get the best bang for their buck. My discerning DIL shops there and finds many products that are as quality as name brand products at much higher prices elsewhere. Two educated people with good salaries; hardly a welfare couple.

I will be checking them out when they arrive.

Agree. Their model is a German one. The European stores trade as Albrecht, I believe. We often shop at the store in Leesburg. Snobs can boycott and leave more room for us fans. :BigApplause:

Villager Joyce 09-30-2016 03:14 PM

We buy most of our fresh produce from Aldi. The bagged salads are 50% cheaper than publix and doesn't have the "knots"" that fresh express tries to pass off as salad. The squash, cucumbers, peppers, and tomatoes are all fresh and delicious.
We eat very very little meat, so we haven't tried it yet.
The fruit salsa is also very good.

Who wants friends like that anyway?

bluedivergirl 09-30-2016 03:26 PM

I haven't shopped at Aldi, but my SIL does. Earlier this summer my SIL was going back north, and she gave us her leftover perishables. One of the items was frozen Mahi. I also had one filet from Publix. The filet from Publix was not as nicely shaped and not as thick as the Aldi's Mahi.

I will be trying them when they open. Shopping for value throughout our lives is one of the reasons we can afford to be here.

PLEASE FOLKS - DO NOT talk up Aldi too much. Allow the 'uppities' to think it's beneath them and continue shopping at Publix etc.
We found Aldi, after initial apprehension, to be a wonderful resource for particular items. Sure there are few if any name brands there - mostly house brands - but their quality is every bit as good as the $$$$ brands. Produce is very good with high turnover for freshness - and their meats etc are fabulous. I also think their $.25 deposit shopping cart idea is super. Good to have more variety down south. I assume it will not be golf cart accessible. But may bring more store variety in that area than the usual TV fare...

Now - for you uppities - disregard everything said here... DO NOT shop at Aldi.

Allegiance 09-30-2016 05:16 PM

Great store, one bad point is they are often out of stock on sale items, especially meat. Very nice, hard working employees

When is the next party?

asianthree 09-30-2016 08:31 PM

What's in the near future still hoping for a Trader Joe's. I am selective if I am buying at Aldi. I'm still used to buy my meat from the butcher or Whole Foods, neither of which are close enough to the bubble so may have to change my ways when I'm down full-time.

Sable99 09-30-2016 09:16 PM

In Michigan, Mom and I like their fresh pizza. The 17" supreme is $5.49! We take it home and cut it in 6 or 8 pieces. We leave two pieces out for dinner and put the rest in the freezer for another week. Add a little more onion, mushroom and cheese and bake for 17 minutes. Yummy!

so true, they opened one reciently here in Pembroke Pines and its not working.

circletrack 10-01-2016 01:02 AM

This is great news! Yes Aldi mostly stocks its own, generic brands, but is that really any different than buying any Publix branded item? We don't do all of our shopping there, but there certainly are deals to be had. Looking forward to it being a little closer that the 441 location.

I don't know where you're coming from, but nothing could be farther from the truth. You are completely either misinformed or wrong (or both) with your comment.

I have been al Aldi's customer for a number of years in two separate cities and the items are fresh, the store is clean and the employees accommodating.

Two Bills 10-01-2016 04:19 AM

If you are so wealthy or up your own backside, go pay double at Publix.
Pick and choose what you buy, then finish your shop wherever you wish. Thats how we do it.
If you are a 'label shopper,' take Publix bags to pack in. (No bags supplied by store.)
If you have not tried it . Don't knock it.

Spot on Dean! Love Aldi's! I do most of my shopping at Aldi's. Purchase organic meats from Sam's. Great wine prices at Aldi's.

Madelaine Amee 10-01-2016 06:38 AM

Aldi's is a great store. First shopped them while living and working in Europe and was over the moon to see them come here. Glad to see they are building a brand new store and hope it will be much bigger than the one on 441. I love their European foods, especially the seasonal food at Christmas.

Carla B 10-01-2016 08:14 AM

I have only shopped at the Aldi's in Leesburg. It takes shopping at four stores to fulfill the grocery list; first, Aldi's, then Wal*Mart, then Publix (all in one day) not to mention regular trips to Sam's Club for meats and supplies. It wears one out. We were in Budapest for five days and made three trips to Aldi's for cheap, but good, wine and snacks.

Sorry - straying way off original subject. Budapest, what a wonderful city, full of young people and music and life, what a difference from the occupation!

With all this outpouring of love I must be going to the wrong Aldis. Most i have been to are in "sketchier" areas. The produce looks rotten...the groceries are all off brand...and the frozen selection is nothing i cant buy elsewhere. I wouldnt even try the meats..really questionable.

Perhaps Aldi structures their stores to the community. But, lets face it, some people will always be too "thrifty" no matter how well off they are.

That is probably how they got to be "well off".

Glad to see I'm not the only one who multiple shops stores. I start at PApa Joes for meat, then whole foods, Trader Joe's, Sam's Club, Costco. In that order it doesn't take me that long since I know exactly what I want from each store. My massage therapist is right around the corner from the last store. Makes a great day. I love to grocery shop problem is I hate to put it away.

If you are married, then that's what they make spouses for. I have the best hubby to put away stuff!

I don't shop at Aldi's because there isn't one close to me.

However, if there were, I would shop there.

These are the reasons why.

Here's a thought. Have continental breakfast and a light lunch of sandwich/salad at home, and go out for light supper for $25 for two somewhere around the town squares or TV country clubs.

It's cheaper, and less calories with a finite portion at a restaurant, instead of a tempting whole pan of pasta, roasted meat etc made at home.
