Matthew: updates from Out my Window

Since the webcams are down, I just wanted to let any out of town residents know, that so far we have had a rather quiet night. Mainly rain off and on. The wind is just beginning to pick up - that started around 4am. So far so good. My thoughts are with the folks on the east coast.

Lark7 10-07-2016 03:55 AM

GolfGirl122, thanks for the information.

Lark

Blessed2BNTV 10-07-2016 04:06 AM

Winds are picking up, no rain yet.

CFrance 10-07-2016 04:07 AM

Thanks for this and any further updates for those of us not there.

Taltarzac725 10-07-2016 04:13 AM

A little windy said the man after consuming a can of baked beans.

Greg Nelson 10-07-2016 05:40 AM

what's happening?? my brother lives in Melbourne

Villager Joyce 10-07-2016 05:40 AM

In a siding home in hillsborough. Still dark but we are good. I wanted to buy in Cocoa. Husband wanted to buy in TV. Guess whose the smart one today.

lanabanana73 10-07-2016 05:44 AM

Was amazed to arise at 6am and find it DRY! That was a giant blessing, since I was very worried about how I would get my dogs to go out in torrential rains. It's raining hard right now, with wind gusts. Husband went for a quick walk around the block while it was dry, and no evidence of damage of any kind.

Not much.go to weather underground.com for update.

Sable99 10-07-2016 06:20 AM

Thanks for the update. I've been wondering what was happening in TV! I miss those cameras! I thought they might have took them down for the hurricane. But, someone said on another thread that only so many can view them at one time!?!?!?

ukbill70 10-07-2016 06:59 AM

Wind 9 - 14 mph, 0.24 inches of rain since midnight in The Village of Glenbrook, Light rain at 8 am.

ajbrown 10-07-2016 07:13 AM

Two major issues in Mallory for me personally...
  1. The news media is in full frenzy driving me nuts, where do all these field reporters go when this is over? Are there that many jobs?
  2. The country clubs are closed for reasons that I cannot understand. I was looking forward to my Friday pizza at Mallory, but I guess wind and on and off rain is way too dangerous.

villagetinker 10-07-2016 07:14 AM

Pinellas 1 inch of rain overnight, just checked the guage at 8 am. Looks like the heavy stuff is about an hour away.

graciegirl 10-07-2016 07:20 AM

All is fine here on 466 so far.

Villager Joyce 10-07-2016 07:24 AM

I will never complain about not having damage.

The eye of the storm is just about due east of TV now.
Up to this point we have not seen anymore wind or rain than we would during a spring thunderstorm.

There may be a little more to come as the eye moves North and we get the bands of weather afterwards.

It was stated on WESh this morning that the storm has been on a track a little more easterly than forecast, hence most wind speeds thus far on land have been noteably less than forecast.

Let's hope all remains for the balance of time the storm threatens our neighbors and states north of us.

The reason is no one knows what the storm is going to do, and the powers that be have to make a call early on. Safety is always the best tact to take, and the employees of all the establishments we are not happy with being closed have families and homes they may have needed to take care of during the storm and after. We had this same issue when I worked at FedEx. People forgot during these times that we, too, had homes and family to take care of and worry about. Thankfully, FedEx got that.

billethkid 10-07-2016 07:42 AM

Aren't we all lucky to have that "what's the big deal feeling"............. after the event is over?

Plan for the worst...hope for the best...and like most of us residents looking out the window this morning, count our blessings!!

IMO the Weather Channel and Emergency Management folks are doing a fabulous job.

We've been blessed so far here in TV. Others are concerned for their survival...not their Friday pizza. Namaste.

DonH57 10-07-2016 07:49 AM

Not much in the Santo Domingo region . A little more wind gusts and rain. We are truly counting our blessings as well and happy I have plenty of rum.

kittygilchrist 10-07-2016 07:56 AM

I think and hope we've seen the worst of it, for South part amyway.

So far, so good in Charlotte. Coaxed the dog outside despite the heavy rains, telling him "Hey, at least it isn't a cold rain!"

The next three hours will tell the tale around here. Fingers crossed.

Exactly. Having had Charley pass over my home in 2004, I'd rather be over prepared and inconvenienced for a meal, than live thru that again. That storm was supposed to come no where near us! Thankfully we were still ready. As I will be every time there is a threat.

2BNTV 10-07-2016 08:33 AM

Looks like the bubble protected us again!

So far, so good!

Tim&MaryK 10-07-2016 08:36 AM

Thanks to all for the updates. We are still down in Palm Beach county, nice to get reports from up there :)

How can I view the cameras to see what is going on?

Jdmiata 10-07-2016 08:58 AM

Village of Duval , 10 AM sitting on my lanai.......light steady rain , an occasional gust.
Guess we were spared.

NYGUY 10-07-2016 09:00 AM

Rain and some breeze here in The Villages. No major damage on the coast reported. A fairly mild storm.

Kahuna32162 10-07-2016 09:09 AM

Unfortunately, it hasn't even gotten here yet, so don't let your guard down.

Severe Weather Advisory For Marion County for 11:00 am. :Marion County Emergency Management Officials would like encourage our residents to take caution with the approaching severe weather that will begin to affect Marion County at around 11:00 on Friday morning. We encourage residents to stay off the roads and seek safe shelter at this time. If you would like to report any non-life threatening storm damage, please call the Citizen Information Line at 352-369-7500. If you have an life- threatening emergency, please call 911.

tuccillo 10-07-2016 09:14 AM

The track is further east than expected so our winds are less than expected. The forecast, when the call was probably made to close the clubs, was for the kind of conditions you don't want employees out in and most likely few customers would venture out in. Decisions are made on the best available information at the time.

Storm

Well, we are feeling like going back to the Oregon Coast. You do not have to travel to Oregon folks, this is it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, November to May, light wins, some rain, some clouds and just find some indoor projects to do or play games.

Been here several months and love it.

Like most of the storms, the coast gets hit hard. The people in The Villages all get into panic mode and we get a little bit of wind and rain. The storm is currently off the coast of Daytona Beach. The next couple of hours appears to be the height of it for us.

I'm not saying that we shouldn't be prepared but I hear some people in total panic mode when the fact is that it's very rare for a hurricane, even one as severe as this, to do major damage this far inland.

Tomorrow we will be back to our normal lives as those along the coast will be in recovery mode for several weeks.

I do understand why, I just disagree with it. I have watched with great interest all of the models of this storm. I never saw any model that predicted great danger for The Villages.

It is not a big deal, I am grateful we are safe, I am just stating an opinion for conversations sake.

It is getting to be time to see how fast I can get my cart going with a good gust helping me...:D

This is a good site for a radar view. The controls on top will allow you to bring up clouds plus radar. It's set on just radar, and you can put in motion with controls at the bottom and on the left zoom in and out. It's centered on Orlando, but you can move it with the mouse.

what is OBG??

tuccillo 10-07-2016 09:40 AM

There was always a low probability of "great danger" to The Villages. However, the forecasted winds approaching 45 MPH would have been enough to call it a day as they would have probably struggled with staffing the restaurants only to have few customers show up. Asking employees to potentially go out into harm's way is just not done anymore. It sends a bad message to employees and customers alike.
