Help Using TOTV with AOL

I have been having trouble using the new TOTV with the new AOL, and sometimes it's so much trouble I don't even bother logging on. Has anyone found a fix for this -- other than completely shutting down AOL and using only Internet Explorer?

Bogie Shooter 04-26-2009 12:30 PM

Thats what I had to do.

Shirleevee 04-26-2009 12:58 PM

I have AOL 9.5 and no problems on either computer.

uujudy 04-26-2009 01:09 PM

Thanks, Shirleevee & Bogie. I have AOL 9.1. Maybe that's the problem? Maybe I need to upgrade AOL yet again?
(Shirleevee, I sent you a PM :)

I didn't even know that AOL was still in business!

Haven't used it since the dialup days.

Shirleevee 04-26-2009 01:58 PM

Judy, when I got to TV last year, I got Comcast Broadband and had nothing but problems. I upgraded my AOL software and no more disconnect problems. I only use AOL......at home here in NY too.

Russ,
You need to get out more.;) It's all free now.

We've got AOL 9.0 on one laptop & 9.1 on another. No problems with either.

The AOL program has its ups and downs no matter what version you use. I use it mostly for e-mail since I've had the same e-mail address for 13 years. I don't use the proprietary browser all that much even though it is a slight variation of IE. I usually go directly to IE itself.

Thanks homeball - I think that makes sense.

I long ago abandoned my AOL email and never realized the site is free now. But I guess it makes sense.

Hi Boomer! Good to see you, too. Is your AOL working ok? (Just trying to stay on topic. Don't know if you use AOL or not.) I would be here more often if I could get the :cus: software to work the way it's supposed to work. Grrr.

Because:
* I use the version of AOL that's not free, so of course I want to get my money's worth out of it.
* AOL (supposedly) has all the security software for viruses, spying, creepiness, etc. I don't know if I have all that when I use Internet Explorer all alone. Maybe I do; maybe I don't. I don't have a clue.
* Most importantly, I like to send instant messages to friends and family while I'm chatting away on TOTV. I can't do this when my AOL is closed. They could be trying to contact me RIGHT NOW, and I'm missing their messages! Gotta go! :22yikes:

Judy,

You may use Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox as a browser, and you may also have AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) open on the desktop so you may send and receive IMs. The AIM is a separate piece of software you may download for free.

Go here and take a look and download

By the way, have you tried to deal with AOL directly or search AOL tech support on this? AOL tech support may be able to help.

Shirleevee 04-28-2009 06:54 AM

Judy,

Go to AOL help and live chat. When I was havinbg problems with our compoute in TV, they guided me through the kinds. If you are using AOL software, the HELP is on the top line.

uujudy 04-28-2009 11:45 AM

Thanks, Shirleevee & Tony. I tried going to AOL for help on this a few months back. In all matters of customer support (not only AOL) I usually get the trainees. I'll try again. Maybe I'll get an experienced helper this time.

XP and 9.1

I've had my puter now for a couple of years. Got Windows XP for both PC and laptop. I upgraded once from 9.0 to 9.1 and won't budge higher until ALL the bugs are out. I tried 9.5 for about a week and had so much trouble I deleted it and went back to my 9.1.
Had the same problems with the new Adobe upgrade. I dumped that and went back to my old settings.

I have found with puters, like with cars, NEW is not always better.
