Cell phone calls from strange places?
Last night shortly after 6 PM my iphone rings, and as I usually do looked at the caller. The call was coming from CAMBODIA!!!!!!!!
And as I usually do with unkown numbers, do not answer. I did file a report with Verizon's Security Control Center. Any others encounter similar calls? |

Additional info:
Just talked to Verizon security and they confirmed that as long as one does not answer the phone, there will be no charges or access to the phone. They also offered to put a block on all international calls, which I had them do. Not an issue as any international calls we make are done via hard wired landline (the old fashioned way). |
Verizon has been having some issues lately. Three times now I've called local numbers and ended speaking with people in Hong Kong, Siberia and Copenhagen. Called SmartTalk, no charge to me and, yes, a Verizon issue.

I received two from Egypt a couple of weeks ago. I do not answer and as soon as they hang up I block that number. Really easy to do.

This is for Iphone. Select phone, select recents, locate the number. to the right of the number is an "I", press that, scroll down to block this caller, select block contact.
|
On our android phone, just go to recent calls, tap on the number, and then tap the three vertical dots in the upper right corner, and select blocked from the drop down menu.

I received a call from The Marianas Islands recently.
It was from the IRS(!) Didn't know they had a call center there. LOL |
Is there a way to Block calls on a landline? I can do it with no problem on my Cell, but my landline I can't and I get most of my nonsense calls on the landline?
|
Yes, the IRS called here from India. They are everywhere!

Yes, depending on who your provider is. I am 100% Verizon has a way - 80% Century Link does... |

The issue is not one of chargeable calls or not. It is one of security breaching and the pirating of your phone number that can then be charged for big dollar transactions. One can either not answer....no charge...no access to the number. Or have Verizon put one's phone on the list that does not allow international calls to get to the number in the first place. |
Recently got calls from Jamaica.
Deleted immediately. |

I get two calls each day for the last 4 months. One am one pm. They change the number each day. Terrible.
I also got a call from an old friend in Jersey asking for money....I told him I'm a retired investor living quietly in Florida to finish out the best day of my life..no money for you. |

They need the reply to gain access....texts or calls or emails or links. |
My opinion is if you do not recognize or know the caller, do not answer the call. Many of us have had their information hacked whether you know it or not. Examples: Target,Home Depot, Blue Cross. The age of privacy has ended with the internet. One alternative if the caller is persistent is to keep a record of calls and contact your state attorney general.
