Lanai furniture
We will be moving into our new home in June....one item we know we will be looking to purchase is lanai furniture
any recommendations on some places to shop for these items |
Interesting you should ask. In the next three or four days, we will be welcoming a new sponsor to Talk of The Villages who sells such furniture.
|
I hope the new sponsor has better prices than we have found in Florida. We bought and transported our outdoor furniture from Ohio.
HOWEVER. Lowes and Home Depot have a nice selection there in TV. (There is another Lowes in nearby Leesburg and sometimes they have different items there too) |
Lanai furniture
We got some very reasonably priced cane furniture from Dockside in a little shopping mall on the road down to Leesburg (just past the lights at Walmart). Make sure all the legs are level though. We bought a small cane table, two stools and two larger armchairs for the small lanai from Dockside.
For the larger area we bought a large metal table, chairs, lounger and parasol which we ordered on line from Target. |
We found a place in Homasassa called It's a Shore Thing (1914 S Suncoast Blvd) that we plan on buying our breakfast nook furniture from. They carry lanai furniture as well. It's a bit of a drive, but their prices for the identical products were better than what we could find in the immediate TV area and the owners (a husband/wife team) were great to deal with. An example: as we were leaving the store (having not yet bought anything from them) my wife admired a candle with a seashore motif. They saw that she liked it and just gave it to us.
|
Wicker
We purchase some decent fake wicker furniture at Sears, and augmented it with some almost matching end tables from Target.
|
Found a great selection of wicker and other styles at Porters (north of the villages on 441). Supplies tend to be smaller in summer as their shipments arrived in the spring.
|
We wound up buying our wicker for the lanai at Pier One Imports in Spanish Springs. We watched the ads in the paper and got it on sale... But mainly chose it because we liked the look better than anything else we saw. :clap2:
|
Because the lanai is my territory to maintain I wanted light weight and rust proof. Got a nice aluminum set, table and four chairs, at Publix.
Found two "slider" chairs at a store opposite Walmart on 27/441. Not cheap but better than some of the competition. Looked at some at the casual store on 27/441 in Fuitland Park. Great selection but too pricey for us. Porters seems pricey too but they have a great selection. We were not interested in wicker as it is too "bulky" for our lanai. Keep in mind lanais gather a lot of dirt unless enclosed. This is especially true if you live any where near new construction. We live way north of 466 and still get a lot of air borne dirt. |
Very good point about dirt. You are better having faux wicker that doesn't have holes.
Publix has some great outdoor furniture from time to time. I saw some very cute BRIGHT colored Anaconda type chairs a couple months ago, very nice price, but quickly gone. Neighbors got an excellent glass topped table and chairs for a good price there too. Porters has beautiful stuff, but expensive I think. And....I didn't like being followed around, like in some northern furniture stores. I hate when that happens. |
Just a small word of caution (which shouldn't need to be said, but . . .):
Make sure you measure your lanai carefully, then measure your desired furniture! I impulsively bought a good-looking dining table and six-chair set, but found the chairs, especially, were too big to pull out from the table to sit without being a contortionist! I finally slightly re-oriented the table, and put only 4 chairs at it, but it's still not really right. And, it defeated the purpose of being able to seat six - which is important when I have guests! After 40-plus years of not having anything even remotely resembling a lanai, I was so excited to have one. Ah, well, live and learn! SWR |
I so agree Gracie! At times salespeople can be overly-helpful which usually chases me right out of the store in a big hurry with NO purchase.
Some people just need time to look and think and think & look without anyone :blahblahblah:in your face! If you dont mind slightly used lanai furniture, I have seen some beautiful lanai furniture at Bargains and Treasures. |

I've been looking for some "fake" "fake wicker furniture. |
Talk host,
We purchased some "fake" wicker furniture at Wicker World in Leesburg. A huge store full of all kinds of wicker pieces at extremely reasonable prices! |
Palm Casual
My wife and I bought our stuff from Palm Casual in Orlando about 10 years ago. We still have it and it still looks like new. We had to have one seat cushion redone and it was no charge.
Otherwise it has sat outside, inside, in the garage, in storage, on an open patio and now in the screen room. It only needs an occasional wash down. But it just like new. |
Outdoor "Cane" or "Wicker" furniture
Our furniture that we bought from Dockside had a glass table top and the cane (or "wicker") itself was the plastic weatherproof type stuff which is great for outside (although like everything else we seem to find in the States - we are from England) it's made in China! But it's been fine.
We, too, find Porters expensive and the "bargains" for second hand goods at Bargains & Treasures aren't at all bargains when you actually check out the prices elsewhere. |

BTW is that your high school graduation picture in your avatar? |
Lowes
We bought ours from Lowes. Can't remember the cost, imagine that, but we liked it because you could change the table top with floor tile inserts. We color coordinated the tiles to match whatever SHE told me to match. Because I always do what I'm told.

Also what the heck is Fake "fake Wicker"????? |
If you need a smaller table as I did (36" round) because our lanai is only 9' wide, you may want to try Rattan & Wicker World, Hway #441, Leesburg 352-314-8998. We were unable to find this size in the stores mentioned above. We were able to choose from a nice variety of fabric for the swivel chairs and had the set within 1 week. They also have larger sets and an extensive variety to choose from. We are very happy with our purchase and found their prices to be very reasonable.
|
If you go to the Home Depot website, you will find a huge selection in many different styles. We are very happy with everything we bought there.

Hi,
For really nice outdoor furniture, you should go to Tropi Casual in Melbourne. The owner of the store lives just outside of Lake Weir. Just ask for Laura Hughes and tell her Don Hughes sent you. They will take good care of you. Good Luck!! Shelagh & Don |
We plan to enclose our lanai as we will be here year 'round. Because of this I felt the lanai would have less effect from the elements I fell in love with a set from Southern Lifestyles and it looks beautiful on the lanai. We looked in a lot of places (including the Tropic Casual store in Myrtle Beach - which did have beautiful things). I did not think the difference in prices between SL and Tropic Casual were significant.
As one poster said earlier - I have dreamed of having a lanai. We have always had grocery store deck furniture in the NE (because of the elements, the budget and the short season). It seemed logical to buy something we would have forever. At least, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.... PS - nONIE your picture is absolutely how I have pictured you. I would take TH's post as a compliment. k |

I think Jan is trying to tell us that hes looking for REAL wicker, yes? |
Quote:
"Fake wicker" is probably plastic that looks like wicker. It may have its advantages. I believe it is colored all the way thru'. I have seen real wicker crack and peel when exposed to lanai weather. Look into this prior to purchasing. |
I've seen good fake wicker and bad fake wicker.
It's like the definition of pornography: You know it when you see it. |
Yes but......... Jan said he doesnt want fake wicker, he wants Fake "fake wicker" and Im trying to figure out if hes talking in double negatives??positives???? you know what I mean. And, he wont splain himself!!!
Jan! what exactly do you mean????? |
HI,
I think you have the wrong Tropi Casual store so here is the link for the Melbourne store. The outdoor furniture is really beautiful. Best of Luck!! http://www.tropicasual.com/ |

SAY WHAT?????? THIS THREAD HAS ME SOOOOO CONFUSED! |
Interested In Pre-Owned?
Mrs. Kahuna and I have been thinking about selling some beautiful wrought iron furniture that we've had for years. It's the famous Woodard brand in the rose pattern with real cast iron (decorative) roses and vines, not the cheap stamped metal that many sets have now.
My description makes it sound old, but a couple years ago I had it sand-blasted and refinished with baked-on powder coat paint that is absolutely impervious to weather, not a spot of rust or a scratch on it. We bought new custom-made outdoor cushions for all the chairs about two years ago. The powder-coating is green and the cushions are a muted yellow background with multi-colored flowers in a muted impressionist pattern. The suite is as follows: - 42-inch round, glass-topped "conversation level" (lower height) table - 2 rocker-recliner-rotating chairs - 2 standard recliners - 1 matching glass-topped cocktail cart I haven't even thought about a price for this heirloom quality stuff. I know the set cost several thousand dollars when we bought it a long time ago. In fact, I haven't even "cleared" the idea of selling it with the Missus. If you have an interest in pre-owned, send me a private message and we can continue the dialog. If I don't hear from you, I'll assume you have no interest. (That would likely make Mrs. Kahuna happy.) I can guarantee you that no one else in The Villages will have any lanai furniture anything like this. |

The point is that you can tell the good fake wicker from the bad fake wicker when you see it. |
