Mailbox Parking for the Entitled

...parking sideways across 2-3 parking spaces at the pool/mailboxes (maybe to avoid having to back up when leaving)?

I find it easier to just spray paint "reserved for me" on the asphalt :1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

village dreamer 11-24-2016 06:45 AM

just park in front of them and take your time getting back...................

Watch people back out. It's scary.

Ran into this just last night getting the mail. Kind of like, "ooh, I'm special/busy/in a hurry/can't be bothered and if people come after me they can just wait."

JoelJohnson 11-24-2016 08:24 AM

Were they the only one there? Did all the other mail box holders come at the same time and couldn't find a place to park?

It takes 2 minutes to get the mail, I don't see a problem.

Taltarzac725 11-24-2016 08:33 AM

Do not sweat over the small stuff.

theorem painter 11-24-2016 10:11 AM

I will have to admit that I have parked in front of them so they have to back out. Do I think they got the message that it isn't appropriate to park like that? Of course not, but it made me laugh to myself to inconvenience them.

Chatbrat 11-24-2016 10:24 AM

I always park infront of them if I can, would be great if another car parked directly behind them--

I always ask myself' What would Eleanor do?"

ednetdl 11-24-2016 11:47 AM

A lot of accidents happen when backing up in a parking lot. Not such a terrible thing to do assuming plenty of spaces available.

Well it seems to me:
1. All mail boxes have sufficient overflow parking, if we have to park a short distance and walk say 50+ feet who cares? Exercise a little bit folks.
2. Some older folks are loaded with Arthritic Conditions and so they try to minimize the pain of walking and or backing out. Give em a break, they do need it.
3. Why aggravate that or any situation with a cart? Do you not see that if you purposely antagonize people, then you may be getting some scratches or worse?
4. Relax and enjoy your Retirement, take it easy!!!
5. One guy was very upset at me for where I parked my bike, he threatened to kick out the spokes!!

Is retired life that difficult for some to chill out? Lucky for him he changed his mind, or what is left of it.

I always back into a spot across from the building because the TG postal center is on a through street and people and cars are coming from three different directions. I'm afraid I'll hit someone or somebody's car if I have to back out of a parking space. I'm not real accurate at backing up and am frequently over the line. But there's always been enough room for everybody to park, and I'm not going to back and fill till I get it right because; it's not harming or inconveniencing anyone.

asianthree 11-24-2016 02:11 PM

I do find those the park sideways and take up multiple spaces have more difficulty walking and jumping up on the curb to get their mail. It makes it easier for them to just slide off of their seat instead of having to climb up the curb.
Because I don't have any issues I park by the pool and walk down makes life easier, and less carts to duck out of the way. I don't find these people privileged or entitled. I think of them either they don't care or they have issues. Have a happy Thanksgiving

roob1 11-24-2016 02:59 PM

So those who need to minimize walking park across 2-3 spots so they can just step out onto the curb.

I assume that is when the reserved Handicap spots are full....

Oh, not really, it is just that they don't have a Handicap plate/sticker...

I wonder why...

Enjoy Life.

Sandtrap328 11-24-2016 07:52 PM

It takes maybe two minutes to pick up your mail. Why let it bother you if a cart blocks two spaces for two minutes?

Kind of spoiled kid attitude to block them in while you get your mail, isn't it?

2 minutes? Have you gotten your mail lately? At certain times of the day, the mail stations have become the newest place for neighbors to "gather and gab".

Agree

Not a big problem some people just like to gripe

ldubois 11-28-2016 06:25 AM

We at Mallory have another issue with parking. Pool parking overflows into the "pick up mail" parking due to the poor design of the pool entrance.

Right, wouldn't that be great? Kindness, grace and understanding goes a long way. Namaste.

We have lived in 4 different Villages in 10 years. Never found, even once, it hard to find a parking space at the mail boxes.

This is my experience also, at Virginia Trace. Where are these villages where parking is an issue at the mailbox?

Really, if the parking lot is empty, what difference does it make.

Sorry, I don't see a problem with this if there are plenty of spaces and the time is short. After all, some seniors can no longer turn their heads to look out the back window. And, things appear closer, bigger, whatever in the mirror. Just sayin, maybe lighten up a hair.

Such folks should then turn in their licenses because they are no longer fit to drive.

You support my original post. Despite the high probability I can no longer pass a road test, I am entitled to continue driving, just as I am entitled to park however I desire. My convenience takes precedence over that of others.

Grumpy old people

The only thing I really don't like about living here is the grumpy old people. Its so ugly. We are so close to meeting our Savior why can't we finish well by just getting along.:::

I always park at the end of the mailboxes and several feet from the curb so I can pull out without a problem.

I always wonder if the person that pulls up to the mailbox sideways have a medical issue or belongs to "it's all about me" club.

Either way, I smile within myself and let it go.

This is an annoying issue and I see it too. What is the obsessive aversion Villagers have to backing out of a parking space?

Uh, arthritis, poor eyesight, bad back, feeble? Many single seniors (even couples) need to drive to survive. In the US, unless one lives in a city with public transportation, driving is a necessity, not a privileged pastime.

I'm with you. I'll bet one of the reasons people hate to back up is the backup buzzer on the cart. I am no speed demon so I go at about 5-6pm each day. I aggravate no one except my wife. :icon_wink:

Chatbrat 12-01-2016 12:48 PM

Always go to the mail boxes in the morning--if it comes in the mail, it can't be that important
