Water softener/filter
I am finally retiring and moving into my house in TV :clap2:. My wife has been living there for a year and has decided that the water needs some kind of treatment, either a filter or softener (not sure I know the difference). My neighbors have them and they run from the $700 Sears to the $2K (this neighbor use to sell them and has high standards). Thoughts and/or recommendations?

A whole house filter is much cheaper, and probably all that is needed in this area.

Nova filtration. Great water at a reasonable price.

Up North I had a softener and filter.........here I went with a whole house filter only. Good Luck. |
I had NOVA FILTERS install mine. Just a 3 filter system, works great.

Try doing a search on this site for water filters, LOTS of information posted previously. PS we have a Sears unit, softener and whole house units. Love the results.

We also have a Sears softener system & bought it on sale for around $725.00 (over $150.00 off regular price). We luv it.

If so, do you have a model name or number? |
Water softening is a mechanical process of ion exchange. No matter what you pay the mechanics are the same, that said if I wanted one I would buy it from Lowes or home depot for under 500. The best salesman cannot change the laws of physics.
FTR I would not get one at all, but some think they are necessary. |

You could be waiting a while for it to fail ;-) Our Sears unit, in a previous home, was still working flawlessly after 10 years. I view these as 15 year appliances. The combo units may last longer because they remove chlorine that eventually degrades the resin.

Help. I have a Canature Model CAN165-100 water softener that was here when I moved in. I don't know if it's operating correctly or not. Can someone recommend someone to check it out?
Thanks |

If you go to a pet store, you can get a water test kit, it will give you the hardness, which will tell you if your unit it working. Also, if you bypass the unit, and run the water for several minutes, and then test it will give you the harness level, so you will know the setting for the recycling, I am assuming this is a salt type unit. Send me a PM if you need more info and we can talk on the phone. |
I have never had a water softener or filter in my life. The water in The Villages is fine for me and better than most places I have lived. Just my opinion.
