Downsizing?
I'm guessing when the new regime takes over, one plan used by many contemporary executives is rightsizing the workforce. What this means to me is that Federal employees will be used to cut government expenses. Probably, literally thousands of Government employees in targeted departments will have their jobs eliminated to meet these objectives.
Any thoughts? |

Award
I always said the person(s) who developed the description called "Downsizing" should receive an Outstanding Award. Go to Western Pennsylvania in the 30's and 40's and tell
John L Lewis you are letting people go because you are Downsizing. You would be thrown out of his office and he would go after you. The true word is LAYING PEOPLE OFF". When I think of the BS from Washington and this relatively new description of denying a person an adquate living I think of the genius that thought of "Downsizing" and how the public bought into it.!!!:throwtomatoes: |
Looking forward to this happening....the bigger the number the better!!!

Forbes Welcome The first building that will be turned into a parking lot will be the Medicare Building. There will be no need to process claims. Every member gets a voucher, and when that money is gone, you are on your own. DC needs more parking lots. The next buildings to be torn down will be the VA Hospitals, when the VA is privatized. All the doctors, nurses, staff and hospitals will be gone. Tear it down. Click on the Forbes article written two days ago to read all about it. |

It is apparent when the uninformed and the partisan/media bent parrots venture into a subject they know absolutely nothing about.

Down sizing in the federal government is done by attrition. It's been done in the past. Employees were offered early retirements also. I worked in Baghdad with a guy that had been given a nice early retirement package by the gov, then they hired him over there as a "consultant" doing the same thing he was doing when he retired. The gov is great at looking good while they waste money.

Unfortunately the DHHS secretary nominee Rep/Dr. Tom Price (R-GA) promises he will do away with Medicare in six to eight months, so turning the VA over to Medicare is not an option. Drain the swamp of all those Medicare forms processors. Who do they think they are? |

Pretty difficult to conclude that one is going to do away with medicare in 6 months based on a quote like this: Just a few days before his nomination, Price announced that the Republicans planned to “address” Medicare in the first seven or eight months of the Trump administration. The article is nothing more than a lather worker upper. Anybody with any amount of imtelligence knows that medicare problems need to be dealt with. The same gray matter also knows even if it was the intent to get rid of medicare, they know it would be years not months. And if it was the real intent to do so just exactly what would be the point to announcing long before even being in office, such an impossible, improbabale, unpopular idea. Makes no sense what so ever other that to get folks who do not do their home work riled up. Anyway, that is my opinion. Thanks for the reference. |
While I would get no pleasure in seeing even hardcore righties and Trumpsters watch in horror as their Medicare goes away, there would be a certain amount of vindication in pointing out how ignorant they were...even after being told over and over what would happen. :(

Not sure how specific this applies to this thread, but downsizing seems plausible in light of budget projections for our national debt. Not sure who wins out here because Trump and Speaker Ryan are not on the same page as each other on a number of issues.
Ryan for sure wants to privatize Medicaire, and I recall when George Bush brought this forward he was basically laughed at by even his own party. THAT conversation on privatizing will be interesting. National Review did a fairly good job in laying out the congressional reaction to a Trump Presidency, but not hearing much about the national debt any longer. This debt is considered by some to be the single biggest issue facing us. This is from that NR article "When President Donald Trump is sworn in next month, Republicans will hold the presidency and both houses of Congress for the first time since 2006. For everyone who has been complaining about gridlock for the past decade, there is now the possibility of action. But before everyone joins hands and sings “Kumbaya,” it’s worth noting that President Trump and Republicans in Congress don’t exactly see eye-to-eye on a host of issues. Of course, Republicans will have every incentive to deliver some quick victories. Even those who didn’t support or don’t like President Trump have a vested interest in his success. And, certainly, they will be chastened by the grassroots anger so evident in November. Still, there are serious fault lines that will not easily be bridged." Donald Trump & Congress: Republicans Have Power to Slow Down Trump’s Legislation | National Review |
The federal government is so large and so bureaucratic that it will be unable and unwilling to carry out any real reduction. Do you believe the 535 members of Congress multiple czars will cooperate? Add to that public unions will join in and resist any changes in employment reductions. People are just dreaming if they believe anything is going to change.

Will be interesting on the infrastructure spending promised by Trump during the campaign and its affect on the national debt and our GDP growth. Our economic growth last I read probably will be at about 1.8 for 2016. We keep saying we want up to 4 %. Other nations like Japan and China show much higher growth percentages. There are those who think 4% is not ever going to happen. They refer to China etal as new born economies and that our economy is "mature" thus we should not expect the same growth as those countries. Infrastructure spending, done correctly, is great for the economy p...jobs, etc. There is the matter, however of the national debt which, if all Trump promised is done, will absolutely go through the roof. Discussion of the tax policies, where the revenues come from, how the defense spending is done (remember Trump wants big increases) etc will make for interesting listening and reading. I hope that all posters take a break from the extreme, radical websites when looking for news on this discussion and try CSPAN and other media because even the basics can get confusing. This is not aimed specifically at you, honestly, but in thinking about this! Those websites do not have the USA interests in their heart. Much too important for discussion from a non extreme point of view. |

The Trumpsters voted for change. They just didn't realize that the change was privatizing Medicare, Social Security and the VA. Trump lied about this in everyone of his stump speeches until he won the election. Now it's nothing but radio silence. |

It's a little of both. Speaker Ryan pledges to end Medicare and privatize social security and the VA. Watch Trump's speech later in Hershey, PA and hear him explain to the poor ignorant people who voted for him how he plans to end the safety net that many of them rely on. |

The past is prologue to the future. government moves at a snail's pace. The divide between the parties has never been wider. Periodically you will see an enemy of my enemy is ............ but that is also short lived. it has been apparent for a very long time that the Department of Energy crated by Carter for a short term energy emergency was overkill and the Department should have been abolished today there isn't anything they do that can't be transferred to another department. The IRS antics tells us they have too much time on their hands and that Department should be drastically reduced. the Department of Education should be targeted for elimination. I could go on but those in congress who rely on favors from these departments in order to garner votes won't move against them. and the bureaucrats who have administrative control will fight to protect their fiefdoms . As to readings there are such a partisan narratives being generated by both parties that I dismiss most of them out of hand for interesting listening and reading. Personal Best Regards: |
I get the impression that those who are against Trump or fear what Trump may do have either a pesonal stake in a benefit that could come under the axe.
Or a relative/family member. Why else would there be so much thetoric about "what will be lost or taken away"....... I do not think anybody will have a problem taking away from those who should not have the benefit in the first place. And I cannot imagine anybody having a problem doing away with jobs that do nothing or add any value. It might help a lot if some would get away from sniping at each other and discuss the merits or lack thereof of actions that can in fact benefit Americans. The talking point regimine and requirements must be awful enticing. Why else would people do nothing but bad mouth the opposition? It is fine to have opposition but the mantra of some that operate under the guideline tha tif one is not of their same opinion, party or belief, then call them names and disparage what they say. Waste of time effort as in so many of the posts here that are nothing more than opposition response head hunters. |
Although Rick Perry couldn't even remember the name of the agency that he promised to eliminate during his campaign (DOE)...he's now going to be in charge of it? :22yikes:
You really can't even make up up this level of lunacy, ignorance and evil...that Chump keeps perpetuating. :ohdear: |

Most of us know at least one of the 55 million people on Medicare, or one of the 22 million people enrolled in the Affordable Care Act. Republican orthodoxy has been to get rid of these programs, and they finally have their chance with Trump in the White House. |
Why is the belief that if something is removed there is no intent to fill the void or provide something better?
There is a plus to the government being out of it. They will not be able to "borrow" from it AGAIN. They would not be able to just bring in thousands or millions and give them a free ride on our benefits. I know the snap back knee jerk commentary will be to crap all over such discussion. However. How many have had their pension from a company they worked be disbanded and turned over to some fiduciary that honors the benefit every month like clock work? There was never a heartbeat missed during the transition. So it would be helpful when folks are dissing all over a concept to present the action(s) in their entirety.....not just the bogey man side of it. No I am not advocating eliminating anything...so take that twist away. However I am open to listening to what, if anything is proposed. OK....let er rip!! |

And how many people have had their pensions taken over by the PBGC and receive about 10% of what they were expecting? Everybody has been anxiously waiting to hear what Trump's plan is for replacing Obamacare. So far, the only thing he has said "it will be a better plan for less money. It will be fabulous". Who can argue with that? |

This is on the same level as naming a sec of labor who believes workers should be replaced by robots, an EPA chief who is a climate change denier (and a Koch Bros attorney general), a DHHS chief who believes women should be fired from their jobs if they use birth control, and a VP who believes you can 'pray away the gay'. Trump's latest pick is Monica Crowley, PHD, who famously said that President Obama was pretending to be black. Another mental giant. Anybody know where she matriculated? |
