As America’s first family enjoys its eighth and final vacation in Hawaii, new estimates put the price tag of the Obamas’ annual trip at $3.5 million or more.

In total, the cost of the the first family’s personal or largely personal travel during the last eight years comes to $85 million – though that is likely to climb to $90 million after additional records are released, according to the conservative group Judicial Watch based on federal government records.

The cost of Air Force One and other government planes as well as helicopters, cargo planes, armored cars, Secret Service protection and advance, communications and medical staff has led Judicial Watch to push for less personal travel.

“The Secret Service and the Air Force are being abused by unnecessary travel,” Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton said. “Unnecessary presidential travel for fundraising and luxury vacations on the taxpayers’ dime would be a good target for reform for the incoming Trump administration.”

Why is it difficult for some posters to FACT CHECK!!!!!!

I've never been a fan of President Obama or his policies or ideas for this country, but this complaint is a bit unfair.
It has cost huge amounts of money for every president in the past 50 years to go on vacations.

I takes so much to move a president from one place to another.

For example are you aware that there are two Air Force Ones? For security reasons, there are two identical planes. Every time the president flies they both take off and and fly to the destination so that the odds of his being shot down are cut in half. The same for the presidential limousine.

There are also several cars of security personnel and others that form a motorcade. There are often other airplanes that carry the limo and other equipment when he travels.

In addition, there are probably hundreds of personnel that travel with the president.

This is not a situation that is unique to President Obama. It happens with all presidents. And the cost has been more for each successive president as the cost of living has increased and the cost of new technology has been added.

IMHO there is plenty of things to complain about with this administration, but vacations and travel cost are not one of them.

Very well stated. Hopefully all the posters who have been keeping track of the Obama's travel expenses for the last eight years are prepared to do the same for Trump. As he prepares to move to DC, while his wife and family remain in NYC, will he be using Air Force One every week-end to go back and forth?

The President also pays for his vacation. It is not billed to the taxpayers. He needs a place that can be secured. He can't check into the local Motel 6. He is on duty 24/7 so give the guy a break. He has certainly taken less time off then Bush jr.

If you are going to talk about his going to his ranch in Texas, then you might want to check to see how many times he did business there, much like going to Camp David, which does not seem to be utilized anymore. The president can take his vacation anywhere he wishes, to an African safari if he wishes. One of the many perks. As far as I am concerned, Jan 20th can not get here fast enough. Then Obama can take his permanent vacation.

Obama pays for his vacation rentals just like everyone else. He gets out his checkbook and writes a check. The house they have been renting in Martha's Vineyard rents for $20,000 per week. They have to rent homes in secure locations and large enough for a contingent of secret service.
