The Onslaught

I stopped in The Villages Sales Center yesterday evening. They had boxes of rental agreements all ready for the "onslaught" which will begin tomorrow (Jan. 2). I asked the representative how many will be checking tomorrow and she said between 2,500 and 3,000!!!

They will be in The Villages from 1-3 months. Remember, this is the first wave!

Drive carefully everyone. There should be a lot of interesting stories about "roundabout" experiences and cars on the multimodal paths.

Remember, too, that this is Florida's Friendliest Hometown. Let's show that to our visitors.

I totally agree Sandtrap......Please be careful in the roundabouts....I've already had several cars on the outside lane cut in front of me going three quarters around. I know that happens a lot during this time of year so I'm extra careful!!! But also yes, we're Florida's Friendliest Hometown so lets show them our welcoming and kindness.......life's too short to be any other way. Happy New Year to all. It's absolutely wonderful living here. We're truly blessed :))

Villager Joyce 01-01-2017 04:07 PM

Renting what?

kstew43 01-01-2017 05:37 PM

3000 homes with everyone checking in the same day....in the same place....hopefully not all arriving at the same time.....

wow.....that would be fun to watch...

So the villages sales center is renting out homes and the rental agreements are in boxes to pick up?

SALYBOW 01-01-2017 07:26 PM

3000 are checking in over three days. THAT IS MUCH BETTER!!!! Dpn't go near the squares until later
Since I am selling my home, however, I am excited. The realtor said 64% on them buy. Please buy mine. We need to move!

Villager Joyce 01-01-2017 07:39 PM

I am so confused. Why is The Villages renting homes?

XPEG44 01-01-2017 07:47 PM

I rented a house for 2 months this summer before I bought my house. I met the house owner and a sales agent at the sales office when I first got here to receive a packet of information and a temporary resident card.

The Villages has an large rental department. Home owners contract with the villagers to fill their homes with renters.

Carpe Diem 01-01-2017 09:24 PM

3,000 / 100,000 is 3%. That is just people that rent through the Villages at one Sales Center.

There are a lot more renters than that coming. Maybe 25 - 30,000 more. Statistically that means that where there were 3 people - now there will be 4. Practically, though, I'm sure the snowbirds are likely to be out and about much more than regular Villagers.

And yes, be careful at the rotaries. But I've learned to be more careful here than anywhere I've lived - whether the snowbirds are here or not. A lot of old bull headed drivers are out there year round. It may be the rule that one should turn out of the outside lane in a rotary, but you're naive if you count on that being followed - to your own peril. Drive defensively.

Hey! Observe, adapt, improvise, and overcome. Buckle up for fun and games!

perrjojo 01-01-2017 10:14 PM

When someone rents a home they must pick up their ID at the sales center. Anyone renting out their home transfers their resident ID to the renters. No, The Villages is not renting out all of these homes. They are merely giving out the temporary IDs

Are you moving to another home in The Villages?

I would add "Above all, have patience".

Life style visits used to use homes that were private owned, (we stayed in one in 2007) but TV uses their own homes now.

My parents picked theirs up in a matter of minutes, but no worries, they will only use our golf cart, not a car while they are down. No golf for them either, just getting them out of the snow for a month or so.

They handle rentals for owners who rent them out for the high season...in many cases. They have a rental service . Nothing new.

Agree 100% about driving defensively.
But it's not the rule to turn out of the outside lane.

I am not quite sure that you are entirely correct.

When we first rented, we were made to pick up our ID at the sumter sales center and had to sit thru a sales pitch with a realtor for around an hour.

He then called us 3 times during our stay at the renters home to attempt to get us to buy a new home.

PS not everyone transfers there resident ID's..they allow you a guest for free....gives you nothing....

The Villages Hometown Property Management handles rentals for houses and villas which are owned by private owners. Homes for rent in The Villages Florida | Home Property Management

This is NOT the same as the villas for Lifestyle visits, which are owned by The Villages.

crash 01-02-2017 05:45 PM

Look at Down Home property management much better than the villages property management. Last year the Villages were rented out for the season and they rented every property they could get their hands on.

pauld315 01-02-2017 06:48 PM

I wonder what percentage of the rental price they take

20%... it is insane. Renting out a house in the Villages is rediculously easy... why anyone gives away 20% is beyond me. And if you want to stay in your own house or have relatives do it you have to PAY THEM.

I bet we spend about 2 hours a month renting out our house, and it is rented 9 months every year.

charmed59 01-03-2017 08:43 AM

When we rented from a private individual last summer we still had to pick up our ID cards at the Sumter landing office.

Be nice to our snowbirds as they throw a lot of money into TV economy!

I try to make it a point to have patience when driving as the roads are somewhat crowded and RAB are an adventure!

Try to eat in more during these three months as one must have dinner by 4:30 PM to beat the crowd!

It's nice to hear TV is still booming!

I have decided that I like Snowbirds who own here. I have mixed feelings about Snowbirds who rent here.

BECAUSE...owners have a vested interest in our town.

So do you like reverse snowbirds who own, but rent?

I like just about everybody Frau. I just get annoyed at the bottles and crap thrown out of carts and other stuff that makes me think this beautiful place is not cherished by ........SOMEONE....in Jan. Feb. and March.

If the renters/snowbirds stopped coming, then start worrying about your investment inTV.

Yesterday I was attempting to enter the roundabout at Morse and ElCamino Real when a noticed I noticed a large pickup circling vey slowly in the center of the lanes. When I say slowly, I mean like driving 5 mph. The passenger was using her iPhone to video the surrounds. I guess it was good that the passenger was doing the video and not the driver.

We have a winner in "Roundabout Bingo"! The first snowbird roundabout experience posted here - and a good one, too.

Snowbirds are who help us get the amenities of grocery stores and much/much more here. Talk to the folks who lived here years ago and had to either go to Leesburg or Ocala for EVERYTHING!! That said though, I'm not excited about the traffic when the folks don't know how to navigate here properly. Almost got hit on a round-about this morning because someone didn't know what "yield" meant. Then it happened again on another round-about. Yes, I was doing my very best at defensive driving and good thing as it turned out.

twoplanekid 01-04-2017 03:55 PM

Saw a regular golf cart traveling north on Morse yesterday just above the lower Moyer loop road that apparently missed the left turn before the roundabout. I would have said something to the driver but he seemed to be saying a lot in a very loud voice to his significant other at the time. Be safe out there and understand that mistakes are being made!

My view, a snowbird is one that comes and rents for the winter....seasonal is one that owns a home here and has some skin in the game.

I agree entirely with your post. It is NOT the law that you have to be in the outside lane to exit. On the other hand, it just makes great sense to do so.
