Does anyone have any information if Direct TV will get NBC back on their channel. NBC is a go to channel for us and if they aren't going to get it then I will switch. The only problem is wondering if Comcast or Centurylink will have problems with NBC down the road.???

According to the announcements on NBC they are still in talks. While I am NO expert, I think the cable companies are required to provide the local TV channels as part of the basic service.

I believe its NBC who is keeping DirecTV from broadcasting. Not the other way around.

Just started my direct tv about ten days ago, although have not moved into the house yet. Had a few questions so I contacted them. They are the worst, worse than comcast in customer service if possible.

Among other issues they could not tell me if my free nfl package will give me any of the 2017 season or what day i had to cancel nfl before being charged.

After reading some articles from the Orlando Sentinel, it's not just Orlando, it's with the owner Hearst Television and they're in 26 markets. AT&T the owners of Directv say they have to deal with 1800 local television stations and have already completed about 100 of these type deals since they took ownership without problems.

They are speculating the NFL Playoff game on Saturday night might speed up the situation. The ABC station came back in one day just in time to broadcast the Florida Gators in the Outback Bowl. With Sunday Night NFL Football, the game before the blackout of Denver and Kansas City drew 225,509 viewers in the Orlando market. Last Sunday during the blackout the Green Bay and Detroit game only drew 127,976 viewers even though it was to decide the division winner. In addition to the playoff game on Saturday night, on Sunday night NBC will have the Golden Globe Awards with Jimmy Fallon as host.

Directv is prohibited by law of broadcasting local stations without their permission. Directv has asked Hearst Television several times if they could carry the channels while negotiations are going on, but they have continued to refuse the request.

I have to disagree. Search Centurylink Prism TV and Comcast Xfinity TV and you will never find anyone has anything good to say about them. I was just doing that myself looking ahead down the road. I've been with Directv since 2008.

Your best time to call about NFL Ticket would be in May or early June, it usually shows up on the July bill and you'll have 6 payments. Once you've been with them, it automatically renews the next season. So I usually call in June and say, cancel my NFL Ticket. Then they will start cutting better deals to keep you. I'll usually wait until August because they start to lower the prices even more. The best is wait until week 2 of the season. Week 1 is free to everyone, so you won't lose that. Week 2 around Sept 15th they will give the best deal.

If you have free NFL ticket because of a move, you were too late for this season since you only got one game. You should get it next season. You can negotiate with these people all the time, if you get someone who doesn't deal, hang up and call back, someone else can be completely different. Their reps are all over the country and I believe some work from home. They have always discounted my bill one way or another.

Other than this Wesh 2 deal, they are much more reliable service. The weather is usually only summer related and that when reruns are on, you can always play stuff you have recorded on your DVR. My DVR holds 1,000 hours, I have to delete movies before I can even watch them because I have too much stuff recorded. You also can go to the back-up or basic channel, such as TNTHD, then switch to regular TNT, the non-HD version most times will come in during the rain unless it's a monsoon.

Missing the Playoffs for anybody is a sin. Imagine they pulled this stunt for the 7th game of the 2016 World Series. What would have been the outcome of that maneuver? We are customer's we do not forget when we are treated poorly. For me the line is it better be working by noon on Saturday 1/7/2017 or adios Direct.

Since DirectV was sold to ATT the service has been going down hill, it used to be great. We were customers for 7 years.

We signed up with Comcast Thanksgiving week. They actually installed a week early. The service has been great so far, of course no problems yet. We have a two year contract for cable, Internet and phone. The savings over Direct and and Centurylink is $70 per month with a increase of 6 times the internet speed plus we like the fact that incoming calls come up on our tv screen and the voice remote is very nice. We now have a local person to call when problems come up. Anyway we have been very happy with the xfinity product so far.

As I wrote in a previous post, I have been looking at Comcast and Centurylink. Other than the Channel 2 problem I've had no problems with Directv since Thanksgiving, or this entire year or even back to 2008. The faster internet speed is good with Comcast, the one thing I didn't like to read was the amount of HD channels offered by Comcast.

I have the Premier Package with Directv, which includes HBO, Cinemax, Starz, Showtime and TMC. On Comcast you only get one channel in HD, such as one HBO, one Starz, one Cinemax, one Showtime, etc. With Directv I have 10 HBO HD channels, 8 Cinemax HD channels, 9 Starz channels, 8 Showtime channels and 2 TMC channels. Adding the Sony, MGM and HDNET Movie channels, I've got well over 40 commercial free unedited movie channels in HD.

I'm a movie fanatic and will not watch or especially record a movie that's not in HD. To buy a 60 or 70" LED HD TV and watch movies not in HD is not a good situation. That's one thing that many people overlook. It's easy to say NFL Ticket, Comcast only has the Redzone, Directv has every game. If you're not a sports fan then I can see the argument, but I'm also a movie fan. It's now time for someone else to hog this thread.

I've sang Comcast's praises every chance I get. There's a lot of Comcast bashing on this site, but I couldn't be more pleased with their tv, internet and customer service. I had a tech go out of their way on the phone to help me resolve a router issue, to include calling me back an hour later to verify the results. When I went to the customer service center on 27/441 a few months ago to exchange the router, the staff was courteous and efficient, and the whole process took less than 10 minutes.

You must have just searched the forum topics. I am a Comcast customer and have been for over 30 years (Indianapolis/The Villages). If you know how to deal with these companies, they are quite easy to work with. i am a satisfied Comcast customer.

Have you looked at Directv on demand? There are thousands of movies and shows available, it only requires a connection to the internet. All those movies are on-demand as well as shows in HD, for example every series HBO has made is available. I can watch anyone of the 63 Six Feet Under episodes right now, even though it went off in 2005. My router handles the internet connection wirelessly and you get side benefits such as sports scores on screen at anytime, the weather, and other events through the connection.

The other two posters defending Comcast, my only complaint about Comcast was the lack of HD channels on the premium movie channels. If you're paying extra for HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, Starz, etc it only makes sense that they should be in hi-def. I forgot two more, Encore we have 2 channels in HD.

When ever I call them, they are nice, helpful and friendly. But have not called since AT&T bought them.

Do the other services send their programming in 4K like DirecTv?

Right now I think Direct is the only provider with 4K. One full time Channel and maybe two sometimes channels.

According to reports a number of 4K to be added in DIRECTV in early '16.

I'm going to repeat myself from another post:
It all depends on what part of The Villages you live inorder to compare services.
In my section, north of 441 (County Club) the Century Link service is THE WORST I have ever experienced.
My internet speed does not go higher then 2.06 Mbps, meaning I can't do anything but wait for pages to load. forget about wanting to watch YouTube videos, very frustrating!! :mad:
So when we talk about these internet service providers we should also include the area we are receiving this service.
For example, my area the service works off telephone lines while in the newer areas they work off coaxial cable or fiber optics (Video, Voice and Internet services)...

WESH, the Orlando NBC affiliate, is owned by Hearst. This year Hearst demanded a tripling of the "carriage fee" payable by DirecTV for the right to carry the signal that Hearst broadcasts over the air to viewers for free. DirecTV said NO...and good for them IMHO.

My guess is that NBC, the broadcast network, will put tremendous pressure on both Hearst and DirecTV to settle somehow. Until they do, all those viewers with DirecTV are not able to see the ads that NBC charges advertisers a pretty penny to place on NBC. You can be sure that the advertisers will be demanding a discount or refunds as the result. That will come right off the bottom line of NBC's already sparse profits.

There'a always another angle, of course. Maybe NBC won't pressure Hearst at all. Don't forget, NBC is owned by Comcast, so every viewer who quits DirecTV because of this kerfuffle has a good chance of signing up with Comcast.

We have DirectTv. It is 2:00 Am and Channel 2 NBC is working. We got Tornado Warnings on our phones and we wanted to check local weather. It wasn't working earlier this evening and I'm hoping it is back for good and not just because of the weather emergency.
